My Grandmother Lena Rae Cavenaugh was placed in the orphanage shortly after her mother died, on 28 Dec 1921. Her siblings also, Vencie Bliss, Annie Bessie and brother Hezzie Lee Cavenaugh. I am looking for people who were also in the orphanage in that period. This would be memories like mine. Grandchildren, re-telling the stories of their grandparent. My grandmother married a nephew of Bruce Boroughs, one of the caretakers of the orphanage. My Grandfather was Paul Bryan Boroughs, Sr. The two of them had 9 children, Paul Jr., Ray, Robert, Amelia, Boyce, Mary, Sam, Pat and Durwood. It would be wonderful to see pictures of the orphanage at that time, especially of the children in the facility.

I would be interested to hear stories of the experiences the children had their as well. My grandmother did not like it. Her sisters loved it. Her brother constantly ran away.

My Great-great grandparents are buried at the Falcon Cemetery, Jacob Earl Boroughs & Prudence Caroline Bolt, along with the caretaker, Bruce Boroughs and his wife Pearl Fluke.

My family decends from Joshua Burris (Boroughs)& Sarah Chamblee and I believe the folks you are talking are their children or grandchildren. The family's descendants settled across the south and southwest as far as California (see "Journey with the Wagonmaster" by Joseph Newton Borroughs). That trip started in 1954 in Anderson County, South Carolina and ended up in Napa Valley, California in 1856. Both Joseph and his older brother, Lewis Chamblee Boroughs settled and raised their families in CA. Lewis was the wagonmaster and this was his last trip.

Borough/Burroughs/Borrow - Chatham Co., NC

Does anyone have any information on a Sarah C (or E) Burroughs (unsure of spelling) in Chatham Co., NC? My gg-grandmother is listed as a Sarah E. Borrow when married to my gg-grandfather (Josiah C. Foster) 8 June 1851. The 1850 Census for Chatham Co has a Sally Borough, aged 16, in residence with a Thomas and Sally Allred. Not sure if this is the same person, but if I remember the age fits.

If anyone has any information on Sarah please let me know. I have information on her descendants that I am happy to share, but no info on her predecessors.

Lewis Chamblee Burroughs & Joseph Newton Borroughs were 1/2 brothers. Their father was Bryan Burroughs/Boroughs/Borroughs/Burriss. Lewis' mother was Elizabeth Polly Brown, Joseph's mother was Elizabeth Wiggington. I have a copy of the 1854 trip, written by Joseph N. Borroughs in 1911. These folks descend from Joshua Burroughs/Boroughs & Sarah Mary Chamblee, who settled in 96 District, SC (now Anderson County) in the 1770's, and raised their 7 children. Their son James is the family line the above mentioned folks decend from.

My maiden name is Boroughs. I am a descendant of Ephriam Boroughs who is my great-great grandfather. I do not know if the information you have could be related or not but I have been unable to find Ephriam's father. By the spelling of Boroughs I would think it is a very good chance we could be in the same line. I have a cousin who has done a great deal of Boroughs research. I will look back in what he has sent me to see if I might see a connection. I would love to see a copy of the picture if you could send it to my e-mail. Also contact me and we will put our heads together so to speak. My e-mail address is Athalia.Taylor@state.tn.us
Look forward to hearing from you.

I am looking for any records of my Boroughs family lineage. I know back as far as my great, great grandfather whose name was Ephraim Boroughs. We have traced them from Hardin County TN but we cannot go back any further although some of the family think his name may have also been Ephriam. Any help would be appreciated.

Thomas Boroughs, married to Rebecca Kimball Morris, children, Anne Elizabeth, Bryant, Thomas, William, Martha, Rebecca & Mary. Thomas Boroughs is the son of Bryan Boroughs & Elizabeth Polly Brown, Bryan's parents were James Boroughs & Susannah Cain, and James' parents were Joshua Boroughs & Sarah Mary Chamblee. I might add that you will see various spellings of Boroughs, from Burriss, Burris, Burroughs, Borroughs. It has been talked about for a long time, that the sons of Joshua & Sarah Boroughs spelled their names differently, however it is believed that Joshua spelled his name either Burroughs or Boroughs. Their is plenty of evidence, of which I am in possection of, that your Thomas is in this line.

I just spoke to Joseph Newton Borroughs last week! He is the grandson of Joseph Newton Borroughs, who made that trip in 1854, and wrote an account of it in 1911. He established Chico Baptist Church in Chico, CA, and returned to SC for the first time in 1907 to attend the family re-union at that time. All of his brothers and sisters had passed away as well as his father of course. He was well recieved by the family who had know about that California trip. Their are quite a few Anderson, SC newspaper articles about his return which I have a copy of. You say you are the gggrandson of Lewis Chamblee Burroughs? I have never been able to determine what became of him and his family. In the account of their trip to CA, it states that Lewis married a few days before leaving St. Louis, but I'm sure you are aware of that. I would love to hear from you.
My people moved from NC in the 1770's to what is now the Anderson, SC area. They extablished a plantation about the size of a township, in that area, and raised their seven children. The couple that settled in the 1770's was Joshua Boroughs, and his wife Sarah Mary Chamblee. Their is a line of the Chamblee's in NC as well, and I believe that is where Sarah is from as well.

My name is Thomas Randolph Boroughs, and I was born in Greenville, SC (1948). I believe I am a direct decendent of Elijah Pillsberry Boroughs who I believe would have been born in the 1820's. It appears a lot of us are in the Carolina's, Tenn., GA, & KY. I am guessing we are related. My family's oral history suggests that three Boroughs immigrated to the US from Scotland. Does any one have a similar history? I have two wonderful pictures from a 1907 family re-union which include Jacob Earl B. with his wife, nine children two daughters-in-law and three grandchildren. My e-mail is randolph.boroughs@verizon.net I would love to hear form anyone with more information! Randy

Silas Boroughs married Effie May Houchin circa 1904, and I am looking for some of their descendants, all born in Clay County, Arkansas. One son was written as Garreld and Garel in 2 different censuses and was born circa 1908. There's also Loyd born circa 1915, Jessie E. born circa 1910, and another born circa 1917 whose name is indecipherable on the 1920 census and looks like Chraland. I have information concerning two other descendants, but am unable to find any of these four sons in the 1930 census. I've tried many, many different spellings, with no luck. I've found so many people in this era that have used their middle names and have been nearly impossible to trace.

Lovisa Boroughs/Borroughs

My great grandfather - Nathan Payne married a Lovisa (Louisa/Lavica/Lovica) Boroughs/Borroughs/Burrows/Burroughs in 1871 in Wayne Co. IN. Her named on the family bible pages are spelled all different ways. I don't really know what her name is suppose to be. Anyway, she was born October 21, 1852. I don't know if she was born in Indiana or not. Her parents are William B. Borroughs and mother Edith Lumpkins Borroughs. They are from Indiana.

Does anyone know of this line?
michau3@juno.com
