This is AWESOME! I am the youngest daughter of Agnes Lange Williams who's mother was Louise Borel, daughter of Joseph Demas and Irma Bonin Borel, descendants of Pierre Borel and Catherine Toupard. My mother's father was Louis Demetrius Lange, also decendants of Pierre Borel lineage.
I heard my grandmother Louise was raised on a plantation, and raced horses but not sure...she was from New Iberia.
Her husband Louis was from Charenton. They married and lived in Jeanerette until his death is 1915. Afterwards she moved to Port Arthur, Texas with their 12 youngest children. Story goes she was a mid-wife and doctor. She died in 1962 at age 97 in Houston.

I am looking for information concerning Pierre Borel, married to Catherine Touprt. I have information indicating that Pierre died in Mobile, Alabama. He is said to be buried there. Can anyone give me a clue as to where the old cemetary is in Mobile? He reportedly died around 1797 and was killed by a Spanish Soldier. Does anyone know why he was killed by a Spanish soldier? Pierre was an officer in the Attakapas Post in Louisiana.

My email is wboel@cox.net

I am looking for info on Louise Pamela Borel or Pamela Louise Borel, or Marie Aspasie Pamela Louise Borel b about 1830, probably in St. Martin Parish, Louisiana. She married Emile Cyprien Savoie January 11, 1845 in Charenton, Louisiana. I have no solid info on her parents. There is another Pamela Louise born at about that time to Eugene Borel (or Francois Eugene Borel) and Hortense (or Hortence) Bourgeois. The problem is that I cannot confirm whether they are one and the same. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

it is possible that Robert Borel could be a kinsmen of Pierre Borel as I have always heard that the Borel family was originally from England. I know that Pierre was from Belguim and that Robert Borel was married to Ann Tompkins and they were from England. It is possible that the father or grandfather of Pierre Borel could have migrated from England to France/Belguim.
Also, I have heard of a legend in the Borel family of a lost inheritance in England and as the story goes, Suzanne Appoline Borel, who was the daughter of Benjamin Borel, granddaughter of Joseph Borel, and great granddaughter of Pierre and Catherine Toupard Borel, had inherited a vast inheritance from her godmother Anne Ransford of England, but no one has any information on that inheritance. could this robert borel be a connection?

Re: Borel/Toupard

I am also a descendant of Pierre Borel and Catherine Toupard, and I have always found Catherine to be a very interesting person. I do not think that her mother was any relation to the Boutta Lafetta line in Natchioches, La. In the legal records I have seen her name written, Catherine Toupard Callendar Borel or Catherine Callendar Toupard Borel. I know that her father was Antoine Toupard, who lived at Kaskaskia, Illinois and that her mother was Marie Lafitte or Lafetta. I have heard a story that Catherine was the true love of the life of the pirate, Jean Lafitte, and that he in composing a fictious name took that maiden name of the woman that he loved and used it as the surname of his smuggling enterprise. I know that Catherine Toupard Borel had a Spanish patent for a plantation along the banks of Bayou Teche, which is situated a little west of the town of Jeanerette, the lands of her land grant were situated along the present day roadway of Highway 182 East in Iberia Parish going to New Iberia from Jeanerette, and it went from Losiel to the vicinity of the Mount Zion Methodist church. After the death of Pierre Borel, she sold some of her land to Dr. Jacques Gravier of New Orleans, Dr. Alphee and his brother, Edmund, Thurston, and their mother, Ann Mynn Thurston, and another piece of land to Alexander Sutherland. The name CAllendar might be a lead or could Toupard be a mispelling of the name of Poupart.

I can't answer your question directly. My husband's family did descend from this same Pierre Borel and they do have a book written in French with a family tree drawn from this particular Pierre Borel. We don't read French and aren't sure what it says. But if you have further questions or would like to inquire further for what information we have, please contact us. My husband's family could possibly answer based on what they know of their own lineage. My husband's grandfather came here from Switzerland to Michigan, his name was Pierre Borel also.

I have a portrait believed to be my ancestors (Elizabeth Tate and William Samuel Fessenden family), made by a Borel Portrait Co. in Kerrville, Texas. I'm trying to find a possible time frame of this portrait, and confirm that it is our family. Hoping to locate a Borel family member who may know about this Portrait Company. I believe the portrait was taken around 1870. Please contact me if you know of any Borel family that was in or around the Kerrville, Texas area during this time frame. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me! Sincerely-Connie Acker

JessIndeed,
Hello my name is Eric, Pierre Borel is my ancestor as well I know very little of my family as my own grandfather did not ever discuss family history with us, for some unknown reason. I have done years of research and Pierre Borel is as far back as I could find. I know nothing of him, the information I have on his father Pierre, is sketchy at best. That book that you were speaking of the one written in french...I can read french pretty good...I would love to have a look at that book...maybe...you could scan some of it and email me? I know that is alot to ask especially from a stranger...but I am on a mission. Please any information you could share with me I would be forever in your dept.

ahh as far as I know I dont think so...although there are several different spellings of "Borel" ie Borrell, Burrel, Borrel. ect...most of the "borel's" in louisiana that either migrated from nova scotia or canada. there are however several Borel's that do live in california, but they are from a different branch where as most them came directly from france at the turn of the century. I hope that this has helped you some in your search

Thanks for the interesting bit of info. on the elusive Catherine. I have been fascinated by her and her life for several years now. Had never heard the story about her involvement with Jean Lafitte. You probably already know that Catheine married Jean Louis Loisel after the death of Pierre Borel. She had one child with Loisel. There is some information on the Borel/Toupard ancestry on the rootsweb message board. You might want to take a look at it. Again, thanks for sharing.
