JOHN H. CHAMBERS. John Hellings Chambers, one of Bristol's pioneer business men, who for many years conducted the grocery store at the corner of Cedar and Market streets, died at the home of his son, Frank T. Chambers, on Wood street, on Monday morning at 7 o'clock.
Mr. Chambers was born in Falls township April 9, 1829, and was the son of Thomas Chambers, He came to Bristol when a youth and learned the trade of carpenter, but most of his life he was engaged in the grocery business.
Nearly sixty years ago he married Elizabeth Green, daughter of John Green. Mrs. Chambers died four years ago. Two years ago Mr. Chambers was stricken with paralysis and was confined to the house thereafter. A few weeks ago he was removed to his son's house, where he died. Besides his son the deceased leaves a daughter, Mrs. Frank N. Booz. The funeral was held yesterday. Interment at St. James grave yard.
