I have quite a few references of family marriages, lineage, and the first of our line in NM. He was Santiago Bone from England. My grandfather told this story. He was a red haired man not many red headed men in the area at the time. It was a time of Apache raids in the Mora area. Santiago told his wife to make tortillas, cookies , biscochitos, and sweet treats for him to take to the indians to make friends. He had some livestock and land that he needed to be proctected. so he took the treats to the indian camp and the next thing the family heard was the indians whooping it up with the red haired scalp on the end of their spears. the screamed the had killed el coloro(red in spanish)... The wife and family had to move into town after that!
