I am wondering if my Bonaparte ancestors were not brought to the states during, or after the Louisiana Purchase. The Louisiana Purchase took place in 1803, when Napoleon ceded lands to the United States. I am wondering about that because I have found a large number of Bonapartes in Louisiana and South Carolina. New Iberia is one place where I notice there are a large concentration of Bonapartes.

I had a friend who came from New Iberia, and her speech was similar to my grandmother Annie Bonaparte-Baxter. When I first heard her speak, I thought she was from the Islands, but she was from Louisiana. My Grandparents were from Orangeburg and Saint Matthews SC. They were Charles and Annie Bonaparte-Baxter. Both were descendants of slaves who picked cotton in South Carolina.

If anyone is researching the SC, or Louisana Bonapartes, please contact me by email.
