Julia Bolster - Married to Joseph Howard (Smith)

I am looking for information on Julia Bolster's Husband Joseph Howard. Julia is the daughter of Asahel (Asal) Bolster and Hopey A. Joseph was born and raised as a Smith but later changed his name to Howard. He was born in Madison County sometime between 1842-1845. I am trying to track down who his parents were. There is a Caleb and Susan Smith in Nelson, Madison, New York with a son Joseph that is the right age, but I have no proof that this is the right Joseph. Any information would be great! Thanks!

I have information (marriage record, and I think maybe a few more things) that has Hoppe's husband's name as Asel Bolster, his son being Asa, up in NY. If anyone is interested in chatting about Hoppe I would love to hear about it! She is a bit of a mystery to me. Her name is also found in many forms throughout documentation: Hoppy, Hoppe, Hope, Happy, etc.

Dear Mark,
I have been to the area of Kilshannig by Mallow and the Church of Ireland churchyard there which probably has some Bolsters but is quite neglected. I have a picture of Odell but do not know much about the Bolsters. In Kilshannig there are many and I am flummoxed. I am a classical singer and teach at Brandeis and live in the Waltham area.
Might you tell me something about the Bolsters. ?? I might have Bolsters in pictures as I have MANY (old) but have no reference to know.. COU lived in Cambridge (3 Nichols Pl) and various places in Cambridgeport . He had a large family.. He moved to New Yoprk I think in 1880
I would love to know exactly where my relatives lived in Ireland as I would like to go back and see.
Hoping,
Pamela
Mary Bolster would be my great-great grandmother. My grandmother was an Upton.. (Charles Odell Upton..was her father. b. 1844 or 45 in Kilshannig..child of John and Mary..
Regards,
Pamela
It sounds like there may be a family connection here!
My husband John's great-great-great grandfather, Daniel Charles Bolster, was born in Mallow, County Cork, Ireland. Daniel's parents (per his death certificate) were John Bolster & Catherine Callahan. Daniel married Mary Sullivan in about 1864, and lived in Kanturk (a neighboring town) for several years before immigrating to Augusta, Georgia with their two children.

Daniel & Mary would ultimately have 11 children, but only 7 survived to adulthood. Their oldest child, Mary J. "Mamie" Bolster, is my husband's great-great grandmother.

Besides finding birth records for Mary Bolster (b. 31 Dec 1866 in Kanturk) and her little brother John Bolster (b. 9 Oct 1868 in Kanturk), we have had little luck in finding anything in Ireland. We do have a lot for the family after they arrived in America, and would be more than willing to share what we have on them.

If there is any family connection here, please let me know! We would love to learn more about the Bolsters!

Thanks!
Blessings,
Lydia James

Hi
I don't have them listed in my tree, but that does not mean they don't belong there! My tree begins in the 1700's in Ireland and follows one Thomas Bolster coming to Canada in the 1830's. The family was large and for many generations off-spring had big families, so there may be branches that have missing members.
Have a look, my tree is public. I will add you as an invited "guest" as well.
Maryanne Nilson

My friend is allowing me to use her computer so please send me an email at sallyholcombe@mac.com if you want to respond.
This is an open invitation to any descendants of Lot Bolster (b. 1752, Glocester, Providence Co., RI; d. 1819, German, Chenango Co., NY) to attend the dedication of a monument in memory of him and his family. The dedication will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, at North Pitcher Cemetery, North Pitcher (Chenango Co., NY), 4 PM. Refreshments will be served following the ceremony.
Lot Bolster is now a proven Revolutionary War Patriot and is on the Daughters of the American Revolution Patriot list. My sister and I are both DAR members and, in cooperation with a local DAR chapter in New York, are providing the monument and conducting the dedication ceremony.
Looking for anyone who may know additional info prior to year 1860 on AMOS BOLSTER. Have found that Amos was born somewhere between 1839 and 1842 in Pennsylvania. From about 1860 til 1895 he resided in POMFRET/FREDONIA New York and was at that time married to Charlotte Fuller Scott. Charlotte passed in 1893 and believe some time after her death then to 1900 he relocated to Virginia and remarried (possibly remarried twice). Any info on Amos Bolster's parents would be great.
Mary Bolster b. 18 married John Upton 1830

Mary was from Scarragh . I do not know who her father was..
We went to Kilshannig by Mallow and also to Charleville where they were listed as living before they were married.. John Upton (Clancy's Street ) Mary Bolster Main Street..
My great grandfather Odell Upton was born in Kilshannig by Mallow in 1844
17 September or thereabouts.. They were Church of Ireland. The baptisms and marriages June 9 1830.. were recorded in Holy Trinity C, Cloyne, Cork, Ireland ,
I live in Massachusetts and am really looking both for the thread of Bolster and the name of the father of John Upton.. Hoping for a marriage certificate. Anyone know how this works. Thanks for any help!

All I know is that my mother Sallyann was the daughter of Harold who was married to Mary Martin of Mass. Mary died when the twins (Sallyann and Bettylou) were between 12 and 14. Harold married Amy (don't know her last name and don't know when they married). The twins moved to Mass. to live with Mary's sister. I'm not aware if Amy and Harold had any children as we saw them infrequently. Amy and Harold moved to St. Petersburg where they lived until they passed away. I don't know of any siblings of my grandfather Harold. I do remember some called Bob Bolster, but that's about the extent of it.

Hello Peta
I have a Bolster family tree that is likely connected to your branch of the family. Most of the information that I used was from 1830-40 and on when the family arrived in Canada from Mallow Cork, Ireland. My Bolster family tree is public and it can be accessed for more details. I have included some documentation to support my tree. It may help you.
Maryanne

A DNA test will show if I'm related to someone with the Bolster last name. If by chance someone else has done this , then we could compare notes and see how we are related. It's just another genealogy tool . I can only go back to my 3rd Great GrandFahter , Daniel , I'm hoping this test will help find more.

Gary
