BOA, MARGARET, Selkirkshire, Scotland

Surnames: Boa, Stavert, Clarke, Tanton, Sporie, Lusby
I've been working on tracing my maternal line that started in the United States (Maine and Connecticut), which then took me to Prince Edward Island, Canada, and now to Scotland.

Margaret Boa is my GGG Grandmother. This is the information that I currently have:

She was born about 1797 in Selkirkshire, Scotland and is the daughter of William Boa (1770-1841) and Catherine Scott (1770-1841). Her siblings include Peter, Beatrice, Walter, Andrew, Isabel, Mary, Patrick, Janet and William.

In 1820, while living in Kirkhope, she married Thomas Stavert. They had one daughter, Catherine.

In 1821, the three of them emigrated to Prince Edward Island in Canada, leaving by way of Dumphries. It is there that their other 12 or 13 children were born.

What I'm looking for is more of her family in Scotland.

I am linked to Margaret by her son George Stavert (my great, great grandfather) who was born on Prince Edward Island about 1838.

Margaret Boa m. Thomas Stavert
George Stavert m. Jemima Crosby Clarke
Bessie Eleanor Stavert m. Jarvis Pope Tanton
Isabella Sharp Tanton m. Carl Sporie
Carol Ann Sporie m. Alan Franklin Lusby
Betsy Lusby (Me)

Any information to help me trace my Boa line further back would be greatly appreciated.

This looks very like a common link to my ancestry, although i'll need to check it out. From memory i have forebears from a farm called Phawhope in Etterick around the mid 1700s. the story goes that they were mercenaries from the Basque region hired by Henry 8th during his rough wooing of Mary. They were given lands in the Scottish borders as payment for their services. Attempts to trace further back in the Basque region have proved fruitless as the name is very common over there. I had an uncle who carried out a lot of research into the family tree some years ago,i believe my mother has a copy of his work. The male names seem to still be in use. John, Peter, Andrew, William, Donald, etc
