Hello Stewart Thomas Boa ,
My name is Joyce Jones and I am working on the family of John Simpson Boa and his wife Margaret Jane McCoy . My interest is in the McCoy side , but was very surprised to see the Boa of Lachute connection .

I do have a chart of the Boa people in Lachute . It is somewhat limited but I have found it to be very interesting . It was made up by a Boa/Gordon person . I would like to at least be able to update this Boa/McCoy family with names . not expecting dates etc . can we share here ?
sincerely Joyce

Yes the Boa's lived in Roxburghshire, Scotland. Many Male Boa family members keep the original Scottish Surnames i.e. John, Andrew. William. They originally settled in the Montreal area , From what I understand in the "nun's island" area o the city. Rumour has it that they were expropriated and moved to the Saint Hermas area, northwest of Montreal . The Boa's Farmed, Built barns and raised dairy catlle, they supplemented their income by trapping, hunting and cutting and selling ice from the Ottawa river Near St-Andrews East. The closest city is Lachute Quebec, It was originally built by Scot's. The Lachute Presbyterian cemetery has many Boa Headstones.
The Boa Name is pronounced "bo" not as in the serpents name "boa".
The "Wilson, Dewar,Doig,Clellands,Brass,Stewart's" and many other scot clan names are found in the cemetery
Lachute was ideal for starting a Scottish settlement , It is located on the line between the laurentian shield and the Ottawa valley. It has the North river passing through it to power early industry and the Ottawa River just a few miles away to move Product up to Ottawa or down to Montreal . The Ottawa Valley is relatively flat fertile plain with good but rocky soil. The Laurentians provided Lumber and mills sprung up all along the Ottawa River/Laurentian and Gatineau Mountain ranges
