I had forgotten that I had abstracted the Harlan tax lists. Jesse Blanton does show up in 1835, but apparently had moved on by 1836 since he does not show up on later lists, at least by 1850. He was landless and next to a son of William and Susannah Brock Blanton. After 1828, the tax commissioners had to visit each home, so the lists retain some geographic information, even though they are grouped by the first letter of the surname. The only other Blanton of William's generation was James, who lived a bit away.
The listings were for those 21+ and the listing was as of Mar 10. Thus, he would have been born 11 Mar 1813-10 Mar 1814, absent an error. This is one-year off from the census indication, but they are notorious for errors. He could have married Nancy J. almost anywhere between Harlan and Clark MO.
