Re: Carless A. Blankinship in Amarillo TX 1943

Hello! Carless A. Blankinship was my father. He died in 1981, from his second massive heart attack. The A. stands for Andrew. Carless needs a bit of explaining. His mother, Joanne Strayer, was farm educated, without formal schooling. Consequently, her grasp of the written word was a bit iffy. Actually, Dad's name was Charles; you can probably see Carless in that name if you pronounce, as Grandmother did, the C as a K.

I would appreciate a copy of that photo, if you don't mind. I actually have his 201 file and the 442 is mentioned therein. My address is 4739 Charmalee Ct NE, Salem, Oregon 97305. I will happily reimburse your time and expenses. I am building a memorial plaque about Dad, and it would be wonderful to include the photo in the binder of papers I've accrued so far.

Dad flew 23 missions in B-17s during WWII, so I'm fortunate to be here. He was shot down and crashed twice, with some injuries. He was very reticent about that, but he definitely had PTSD, responding to a touch while sleeping quite actively. I miss him, he as a super Dad.

Thank you for posting this information! Have a great day!

project Blankenship

Back in Feb of 2001, I started a Blankenship project to put the whole family together and Proof it. I’ve compiled works of over 770 other researcher that sent me their file, When we stared the goal was to proof it to 1880, but there seemed to be a lot of folks that were having trouble getting pasted the 1880-1900 gap. So I’ve proofed it thru to 1920.
I haven’t been able to attach a lot of the lines to the main family yet, but I have them in the file and attached to an American Blankenships, faults parents, and proofed, Some of the lines are not proofed because I didn’t find anything on them or I have them mis-IDed.
My file at roots web is
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=jimmermi . If you can’t fined your line of the family, send me what you have and I’ll give it a try. If you can and would care to make any corrections or additions, just use the post-em on the file. That way I know right were your looking in the file. Remember to leave me an E-address so I can get back to you. If your name is in the Submitters List drop me a line please.
In my file, I use the
Blank’en’ship spelling for the VA family (Ralph’s) [28,535 entries]
Blank’in’ship spelling for the New England Family (James’) [201 entries]
Blank’an’ship spelling for the African Families (Still working on these) [232 entries]
For first names, I use common spellings to make searching the file easier, I.E. Louis is Lewis, Sally is Sarah, Polly is Mary, Peggy is Margaret, Bob is Robert, Etc.
I have also built a very large database of Blankenship records, and have them set up on line, in an Area Timeline format, at http://www.blankenshipweb.com/ . This will show what we have found so far. That way you know what to go looking for. If you find a census record that I don’t Have yet. Send me a copy or let me know where it is and I’ll transcribe it. If find one that I have but don’t have IDed, drop me a note to let me know so I can get it into the Genealogy file.
If your interested in working with us, we are on the Blank’in’ship List at Rootsweb.

James @ Blankenshipweb.com
Elizabeth Hudson BlankINship

I am trying to prove that Elizabeth Hudson was married to John Buckley Blankinship ( At some point the surname was changed to BlankENship). I have not been able to find the source showing Hudson as her maiden name. John B's will only names his wife as Elizabeth Blankenship. They were supposedly married in 1725, and that she immigrated to America from Woodhouse,
Leicestershire England.

Any source help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Cat

Hi MS,

doesn't matter how you spell the name it will sound the same when you say it. spelling use to be a creative art, only in the past 100 years did it get to be an exact art.

the SSDI does not have spouses or parents in it.

your best doc's for that would be the death and birth certificates

you can drop me a note at Jim @ Blankenshipweb.com and let me know what you find. if I can tie your line into the family I can save you a lot of work, because I have a lot of it well outlined. that way you'll know where to look for information that will tell you more about them.

JIM

I'm looking for informationo n my mother's side of the family and its just her and her sister, who are estranged.

My grandfather OBIE PRESTON BLANKENSHIP was born Feb 8,1942 and died June 19, 1987 in Tifton,GA. The next person I have is his father CLAUDE HERMAN and thats where things end. No dates on him. So where should I begin to find his information. His mother was MARY ELIZABETH THOMPSON who was born in 1923. Any info is greatly appreciated.

I thought that the Blankenship name was kind of an uncommen name and that this would be my easiest search, turns out I was wrong

I am from the line of Hudson-Reuben-John Buck-Reuben. My line went from Va. to Ga. to Ala. to TX. Many of Reuben's line are still in Alabama. We all appreciate you for taking on such a huge undertaking. Janet Blankenship Gaston

Is anyone aware of research for David Blankinship b ca 1745 who chooses Ephraim as his guardian in 1759 in Chesterfield Co VA. Said to be s/o James child of Ralph. I chose birthdate of 1745 assuming he became 14 in 1759 when he chose his guardian. Believe same David left a will in Charlotte Co VA. It was proved in 1824 in Charlotte Co VA. Children named were Abel, Cain (probably disabled), Magdalen Pegg, Cela Morton/Martin, Naomi Dixon.

I am trying to locate where my grandfather is buried. His name was Curtis Moore, he lived in Delbarton, WV, and he died there in 1969.

The information that I found on his birth certificate says that he is buried in Blankenship Cemetery. A family relative says that he is buried high up on a hilltop in Varney, WV.

Is anyone familiar with this cemetery? Can you provide me with any information? I would greatly appreciate any help. I very much would like to go to that cemetery to see where he is buried and to take pictures.

Hmmm....... interesting. Oh I wish there was still an 1890 census! I'm wondering if Albert is the same one in the 1880 census of Equality, Gallatin Co, Illinois, who is the son of Andrew Johnson Blankenship and wife #2 Sarah Jane Fosnot. Equality and El Dorado are only 7 miles apart, although in different counties. There are a lot of Blankinships in the two towns.

In the 1900 census, how close does Albert live to James E. Blankenship in Memphis? James is 24, living with wife Clara E. and daughter Laura L. who is 4 months old, at 779 Dunlap Ave. James and Albert grew up as brothers. (James is the "Jas. E. Hudgeons" in the 1880 census)

This Albert B. Blankinship was living in Obion, TN in 1906 when his father died and the will was probated. He died in 1910 of TB in Tennessee and his body was shipped back to Illinois for buriel.

thanks

Could you Betty Blankenship be Elisabeth Blankenship? I think Betty was sometimes a nickname for Elizabeth. I have a James Blankenship who married a Elizabeth James in Jefferson Co., Indiana. They had a son Lewis born about 1862, but I do not see a Joseph or a C.O. in the list of their children. I do have an Edward who was a son of theirs. Elizabeth's father's name was Joseph so it would make sense that she would name one of the children after him. The nephews of Elizabeth James came to Kansas and lived in the southeast corner of Kansas where Parsons is located. I think that we may have a match here, but need to do more work. YOu can contact me at holmes6443@sbcglobal.net. Look forward to hearing from you. Martha Holmes
