Montreal/Adirondack/Albany Blanchard's

My grandfather, Louis Blanchard, b. 1913 probably in Albany or Fort Edward, was orphaned somewhere between 7 and 14 years old (1920-1927). He was at Saint Margaret's Home in Watervliet and then living as a boarder and working at a gas station in Fort Edward by 1930. He lived with the John W. Durkin family.

His father's name was Frank L. Blanchard, b. abt 1879, who reported his mother as being from NY state and his father as French Canadian in the 1920 and 1910 censuses.

His mother was May E. Beaudry, daughter of Louis or Lewis Beaudry and Evalina Mary Terry of Fort Edward, NY near Glens Falls, NY. I have no further information about Frank L. Blanchard, though it's rumored that they are from Quebec, possibly Montreal. Does anyone have any further information about Frank L. Blanchard, the family, or what happened to them?

[Picture shows Frank and Mae Blanchard and their daughter Frances, Louis' older sister, also lost]
Seeking descendants of siblings Harold, Pauline, and Ethel Blanchard. Photo taken in Louisville Ohio about 1913. Family Tree indicates they are the children of Lee and Alta and this matches with the 1910 census. Census also suggests that Lee is the brother of Lloyd.
Will

BLANCHARD of Groton, NY Area

My gg-grandmother Emma Wade BLANCHARD was b. 1834, reportedly in Summerhill, Cayuga Co., New York, just north of Groton and the Tompkins Co. line. She m. Elias PRATT of Groton in 1851.

According to Elias PRATT's family Bible, Emma was d/o Charles BLANCHARD, Jr. and Phebe SHERMAN, and her siblings were Reuben S., Helen M., Charles O., and Phebe J. BLANCHARD. The Bible names a senior Charles BLANCHARD with children Maria and Charles, but his wife's name is mostly obliterated; her surname looks like "B__neroff". No place names are provided in this Bible record for this family.

Anybody out there related to these BLANCHARD people? I'd love to know where they were before NY!

Bob Nichol

We believe she was born in New york state and died in Minnesota. She was married to William Perry. We think she is the daughter of Frank and Hattie Blanchard of New York State. She is the birth mother of my husband who was adopted and he is curious about that part of his ancestors. I would like to find an obit for her but would appreciate any info anyone could provide. Thank you.
Lori

Blanchards in NH, NY, and SD

I am researching a Blanchard line that I trace back from upstate New York (Pompey, Onondaga Co.). In the 1850 are Wiliam Blanchard (b. abt 1811 in NH) and wife Phylura Smith (b abt 1811 in NY (parents from Connecticut). William is by ggg grandfather. My gg grandfather is their soon Alfred J Blanchard b 1841 in NY who married Charlotte Holmes b abt 1843 NY. Alfred and Charlotte settled in Dakota Territory sometime between 1870 and 1880 because they and William and Phylura are in the 1880 census in Meckling (Clay Co, Dakota Terr).

I am interested in William's parents. I am also searching for the fate of William and Phylura's daughter , Sophronia's, husband, William Tracy. He is with her in the 1860 Pompey census along with a daughter Alice b 1957. He is not in the 1870 census where Sophronia is widowed. I assume he died in the Civil war but I can't confirm a service record for him.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks Jody

Here is what I have:

Martha Blanchard, aka Martha Williams , also went by the name Mabel Blanchard. Born about 1875 in Iowa. More than likely she was born in Smithland, Iowa. Maiden name was Williams. Probably married a Blanchard in either, Nebraska or Yankton, South Dakota in the late 1880's. Know she also lived in Minnesota for a time in the 1920's possibly 30's.

I have pictures of her when she was in Yankton, South Dakota with her sister, Dora Young, aka Dora Williams in the early 1920's

I know this is a long shot, but in Genealogy, a long shot can sometimes open new doors.

I am trying to obtain documentation for ABIAL/ABIEL/ABEL BLANCHARD b. 4/4/1773 in Andover, Massachusetts. He was the son of Daniel and Jerusha (Eaton) Blanchard.

ABIAL was married to HANNAH GRAY about 1795 in Wilton, Hillsbourgh County, New Hampshire. They had 6 children. 1) Ashsah b. 1797 Ferrisburg, Addison County, Vermont, 2) Hannah b. 1798 (IGI records show 1789 and I think they have transposed) in Ferrisburg Addison County, Vermont or Landgrove, Bennington County, Vermont, 3) Abiel b. 1795 or 1799 in Ferrisburg, Addison County, Vermont or Wilton, Hillsbourgh, New Hampshire, 4) Hermon b. 1800 in Landgrove, Bennington, Vermont, 5) Reuben b. 1802 in Ferrisburg, Addison County, Vermont or Landgrove, Bennington County, Vermont, 6) Clerry (I have no information for Clerry).

Hannah apparently died between 1802 and 1808.

Abial married PATIENCE VARNEY about 1808 in Berwick, Maine. They had five children 1) Abel b. about 1809, 2) Ezra b. 1811 in Vermont 3) Lucy b. about 1813 4) Amos b. 1815 in Pennsylvania.

There is an Abel Blanchard in the 1810 census in Charollette County, Crittenden, Vermont. The number of children and ages are almost the same as Abiel's family and this family does not appear in the 1820 census.

Patience Varney appears in 1820 in the Clermont County, Ohio census.

A lot of the information I have is from letters written to the Clermont County Ohio Library seeking information about this family, so I am not able to clearly link this family to my husband's great-great grandmother who was the daughter of Amos Blanchard. Amos moved from Clermont to Jennings County, Indiana.

I have a wonderful photo card that is labeled "Lou Blanchar."

She appears to be perhaps age 20.

Photo was taken in Denver, CO.

This photo was in our family collection with a similiar photo of my grandmother Sybil Stewart (aka Sybil Aylsworth) (aka Sybil Burch) who was born in 1878. Likely they were friends. Photos were taken at the same place and likely the same date.

My grandmother has connections with Colorado, Kansas and Washington.

Lou is not married into my family (that I know of).

Would be happy to learn Lou's story and find this photo a happy home.

Frank and Mary Blanchard, Colorado, 1930

Mary Remington was born 1882. Some time later, she married Frank Blanchard. In the 1930 census, they were living in Phippsburg of Routt County, Colorado. The census says, "just north of the round house". They are listed as missionaries and traveled in a "chapel car". A chapel car was a railroad car made into a traveling church. Are any of Frank and Mary's descendants stil around? Can anyone tell me more about this chapel car? Please contact me if you know anything about this family. Thanks brian

Georges Blanchard (from Montréal) grand-father.

Georges lived in Montréal. Had 2 or 3 sisters. He arrived in Ottawa around 1921 and apparently worked at Ottawa Printing Office near Lower Town Ottawa. My grand-mother, Gratia Bertrand,(1890-1974)was from Sault St.Marie, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A.? Her first marriage to Napoléon Daoust in 19ll. Her husband died in 1918. They had 3 sons and one daughter. Her 2nd husband (marriage records not found), Georges Blanchard was father to Marie (Mélanie),born in 1922 and Georges(my father)in 1924. I later found a Joseph Emile Albert Blanchard, born in 1927 (he was not mentioned during my father's lifetime.) My grand-father's whereabout are unknown from 1927-. My great-grand-father was apparently a judge in Montréal however this has not been confirmed as of yet. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you.

I am trying to trace any relatives of Eugenia. I know she was born 23 Apr 1886 in South Otterington, North Yorkshire, UK. She left Liverpool on the SS Celtic, bound for New York, she arrived there on the 21st Oct 1911, aged 25yrs. My trail for her has dried up.
She had many brothers and sisters, and her parents were called John E Blanchard and Jane Elizabeth Morland. Any information would be appreciated.

I am trying to confirm that Simon Tenney Blanchard was a cabinet maker in Boston (1782-1855). He married one of twins Roxana Armsby. One of sons George Samuel Blanchard. (I have several old pieces of furniture that have come down through family-believe he may have made them). Descendants moved West to Ohio and then California.

Anyone know anything about this line of Blanchards?

Blanchards

Still looking for the missing links. David and Emily Blanchard lived in Philadelphia in the 1800s. They had four children, John Dave Henry (harry)and Sarah, she died when she was a child about 1850s. John and Dave died in civil war 1863. David and Emily died around the same time. Looking for Davids brothers, I know one was named Weslie, John and there were two others I believe. David owned a lumber yard in Philadelphia. Also Harry moved out to California which I have all info from there on. Emilys maiden name is possibly Black her father was from Vicksburg. She had a sister named Sarah and her sons name was Joe. When Harry was in Civil war he was married and had a baby girl but when he came home from the war he found out his wife was having an affair. He up and left them both and that is when he moved to CA. Any info email me at LLeaman@aol.com

They homesteaded in Domremy,Saskatchewan,Canada. Do any of you know of her and my greatgrandfather. Some of our distant relatives in Saskatchewan received a letter from a man , in Quebec,Canada, stating that he was also a greatgrandchild.
John M Blanchard and Eliza York, Maine

Hi everyone,
I am looking for the parents of John M Blanchard, b.16 March 1802 most likely in Brighton (formerly called North Hill), Maine. In 1820 he married Eliza York b. 14 Dec 1795 from North Hill, Maine. They had sons Samuel(Y?)Blanchard
b. April 20, 1824
Alfred Blanchard b. March ? [rest is cut off]
and possibly:
John Blanchard born August 4, 1827 died March 16, 1828
Looking in the 1830 census of Somerset County, Maine, I find that John has 3 sons, 1 over 5 and under 10 and 2 under 5, so I am thinking there was another son born after John died, if he was their son as well.
The above info on this family (other than the 1830 census info)was graciously given to me by Marilyn Sterling Gondek; Old Canada Road Historical Society.
So, now I am in search of more information, I think they were an Acadian family, from family stories about "The Frenchman" and how his family sailed in a ship to avoid capture by the government.
I have no idea what records to look in to locate parents from the 1770-1790ish era, any search ideas are welcomed also.
With much appreciation,
Kyanne

"Warned out of Town

In my research I have come across several instances where families have been "warned out of Town" for example
1775 Littleton MA Mary Blanchard, Mother and stepfather warned out of town.

1759 Westford MA Hannah Blanchard, Sarah, Daniel and Moses, her children warned out of town

1807 Reading VT, Levi wife and Children warned out of town

1813 Halifax Vt, Aaron and Family warned out of town,

and others. can anyone tell me what was behind this. I would be interested in any information you can give me.
thanks . JIM
