Charles Blackmore b. 1734 Prince George's Co, MD

I am seeking information on Charles Blackmore, son of Samuel Blackmore (1702-1772) and a Wilkinson. This Charles Blackmore has some relationship to the John Garrett (aka Garrott) family of Frederick County and/or the family of George Dawson (1716-c1786). I am interested in learning more about what became of the children of Charles Blackmore and how he may have been related to the above families.

Hi Linda,
I've picked up the marriage cert of Thomas and Mary Jane Blackmore (1880 in Galway), listing his father as William Blackmore, an engine driver.
I've also been e-mailing a newly-found distant cousin in England, and we've pretty much come to the conclusion that William, Thomas, John & Henry Blackmore were the sons of William & Elizabeth Blackmore. They were originally from Liverpool, and the family appears in the 1841 and '51 English census. They then moved to Ireland in the 1860's (not sure why).
If your intersted I can send you some documentation.
Regards,
David

That's a pity.
Still, I think my theory about Thomas & John Blackmore being brothers is fairly reasonable (both plumbers, uncommon surname, similar ages).
Do you have a copy of Thomas & Mary Jane's marriage cert? I found it in the civil registrations index on familysearch.org (1880 in galway, maiden name Jordan), but no further details. Would be interesting to see if Thomas' father's name & occupation matched with John's.
I'm waiting to hear back from someone else who has Blackmore ancestors who originated in England but moved to Ireland (they were from Liverpool area). I can let you know what I find out.
Have you a tree on ancestry.com?
Dave

Hi Linda,
I recently spotted that Blackmore family in Galway in the 1901 census when I was looking for possible relatives of my wife's great-great-grandfather, John Blackmore (c1846-1900).
This John was also a plumber (same as Thomas) and lived in Ennis, Co. Clare from the 1870's to his death. He died before the 1901 census so I didn't know where he was born originally.
His marriage cert in 1871 lists William Blackmore, an "engineer", as his father.
I noticed another Blackmore family close by in Galway (St Patrick's Ave), with the head William and his mother, Elizabeth (widowed), both born in England (as was Thomas).
I found a death cert for a William Blackmore of the same address who died in 1900 aged "80" and was an engine driver, same as the younger William.
I'm thinking that Thomas and William were my wife's ancestor John's brothers, and the older William and Elizabeth were his parents, all from England.

Do you know anymore about the Blackmores in Galway, and whether they had any relatives in Ennis? I found another Blackmore engine driver from England living in Meath in 1901 too, possibly another brother?

Thanks, Dave

Thomas Blackmore - Galway

Hi group.
I am wanting to make contact with of find someone who has information on the Blackmore family from Galway. in 1901 they live at 9 Henry Street [Galway West Urban, Galway].
In 1901 16 year old Frederick and 17 year old Thomas Blackmore set sale on the Anchoria for America. I can locate Frederick in America but cannot find Thomas. In 1905 the rest of the family Thomas [father] Mary Jane [mother] and the following children Annie, Elizabeth, Albert John, Amelia. Christopher and Francis all Leave Galway and emigrate to USA. I have tracked most of the family in America but still the son Thomas eludes me.
I am thinking he left America between 1901 and 1905 and headed for New Zealand. I have located a Thomas on the 1905 electoral rolls of NZ. He is not on previous ones. I am hoping maybe there is someone also researching this family, and they also loose this Thomas, I do not mind claming him as mine
Thanks
Linda Blackmoore

Obit of Mrs. Lincoln (Jesse Movern) Blackmore 1942

From the Chatsworth Plaindealer
Chatsworth,Livingston,Illinois

MRS. LINCOLN (JESSIE MOVERN) BLACKMORE
NOVEMBER 12, 1942

Mrs. Jessie Blackmore died at her home in Chatsworth about 5:10 Saturday (Nov. 7) evening as a result of a ruptured artery in one of her limbs.
Mrs. Blackmore lived alone and for a number of years had been trouble with varicose veins in her ankles. Saturday she had been around her home and worked some in the yard. Albert King stopped on his way up town to inquire if Mrs. Blackmore wished him to order any groceries for her, as had been his custom. When he stopped at the home Mrs. Blackmore told him she was very ill and asked him to call a doctor. He hurried to a phone and then went to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edward Moore. When help arrived she had slumped over in a chair and life was extinct from loss of blood from a ruptured artery.
The body was taken to the Roach funeral home and later to the home of her daughter, where it rested until the hour of funeral Tuesday at 2 o'clock. Services were conducted by Rev. M.L. Sullins pastor of the Methodist church. Burial was in the Brenton cemetery near Piper City.
Coroner K.G. Essington, of Odell, conducted an inquiry at the Roach funeral home Sunday evening at 7:30 and decided death resulted from a massive hemorrhage from an artery in a varicose vein.
Jessie Movern was born at Earlville, Illinois, January 18, 1868. She resided in the Earlville neighborhood about 30 years and was married in 1887 to Lincoln Blackmore, from whom she separated many years ago. Practically the remainder of her life after leaving Earlville was spent in Chatsworth.
Mrs. Blackmore was a kind neighbor. In her younger years she graciously spent part of her time in the care of the sick. To the very close of her life she loved her home. Here she liked to be, caring for her flowers and doing her own work. Her passing will be deeply mourned by her children, her sisters, brother, and friends in this community.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Nellie Pilger, of Bureau, Illinois; Mrs. Etta Moore, of Chatsworth, and Mrs. Della Edwin, of Kankakee. There are also two sisters, Mrs. Charles Baker of Monticello, Indiana, and Mrs. Charles Honold, of Bailey's Harbor, Wisconsin, and one brother, Bert Movern, of Gilman.

I am trying to find the parents of one of my ancestros, Mary Blackmore, who was born about 1612 in St. David, Somersetshire County, England and died about March 23, 1695 in Charleston, Norfolk County, Massachusetts and Mary married Thomas Adams about 1642 in Baintree, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. According to information that is available on the web says that Mary's father was a man by the name of Truebull, and according to the information, it says that he was born about 1586 in Barton, St. David, Somersetshire County, England and died about 1611..

Does anyone happen to know if this information is true?

Thanks In Advance,
K.
Blakemore/Blackmore Wales to Pennsylvania

I'm trying to find information on the Blakemores that came from Wales into Pennsylvania in the mid-1800's. I have a John Blakemore born around 1838 in Wales and died in Penns 1904. The 1880 census lists another John Blakemore living with this family as "grandfather" and was born about 1800 in Wales. In various records the names are spelled as "Blakemore,Blakemoor,Blackmore, and Blackamore". Any information about these folks would be greatly appreciated.

Would anyone know the parents of Abner Blackmore who appears in the 1850 census in Middlebury, NY with his wife Salvira Hovey? They were married in Warsaw, NY in 1832.

Census data from 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1875 (NY census) listed his place of birth as Vermont or Connecticut.

Abner and Salvira appear to have daughters only. His daughter, Josephine L. married William Garrett Elyea. They had one child. She died shortly after 1875.

Regarding your post re: Samuel Blackmore. My Grandfather did a massive genealogy the hard way -- traveling, writing letters, etc. No internet. He has Captain William Blackmore, son of Samuel, who settled in MD between 1725 and 1730. Somewhere in his papers probably I would find his source, but I haven't the ambition or energy to go through that pile. I am descended from his son William and wife Sarah Dawson.

Gail;
I am so hoping you still look at this forum. My husband is the gt gt gt grandson of Margaret A Blackmore b ABT 1832. I have been searching for nearly 30 yrs for any history for the family tree, to no avail! By a little bit of family record I have, she was born in Sumner Co., TN. Her husband was James Alexander Hodges.b 7 Feb 1828 in TN.
I'm wondering if Margaret might of been born in England before coming to the US. How could I find out when it appears there are no others searching for history of this family.
Don't want to burden you with more work, but if you give me some ideas, really appreciate it. I'm 78 yrs old and health not so good, hoping I can find her parents names, siblings names etc. Thanking you so much in advance.

Regards,
Maxine kansaslassie@gmail.com

Do you have more info on Joseph and Helen? I have always assumed he was the loyalist removed from NY to Nova Scotia in 1783 on a ship. Among them was the Cuzzins or Cousins ancestor, who also settled with others in Woodstock on some loyalist land grants in the area. Cousins was another loyalist family in the area supposedly. Do you have history on where Jospeh was from or his English roots? I am at jp57 @ hotmail.com Thanks!

Looking for more information about family of David Newman (1774-1852) and Mary Sherwood (b abt 1774 in NY?). They lived most of their lives in New Brunswick, Canada. Want details of their children – names and birth/death dates. In have the following as possibilities: 1) John M. May 1791 – May 1836; 2) Hannah 1796 - ? (married I Leighton); 3) Phoebe 1802 – 1870 (married Thomas Blackmore); 4) Timothy; 5) Hester; 6) Stephen; 7) Jane; 8) Mary; 9) Thomas; 10) Jonathan; 11) Elizabeth; 12) Jeremiah. My main “angle” with this inquiry is the fact that Phoebe is listed as a “native” (meaning Native American?) on the 1861 Census of Canada in Northesk, Northumberland, New Brunswick. Does anyone have any further information concerning this?

In a snippet: William Blackmore married a Sarah (bn 1806) in NB. Their son was Joseph Blackmore, bn April 10, 1827 in Woodstock, NB. Joseph married Elizabeth Wilson (who was born in 1830 in NB, daughter of an Elizabeth Wilson who
was born in Ireland about 1801). Joseph Blackmore and Elizabeth Wilson had James Woodford Blackmore, born July 16, 1864 in Woodford. I would need to dig more on the parentage but I have lost a bit more that I had on this particular Elizabeth Wilson.

Hello, I do believe that Mary Blackmore (Blakemore) is the daughter of Joseph S. Blakemore (1804-3 May 1866) Mother Susannah Clora Hamblen (1814-1866) Parents of Joseph, father John Thomas Blakemore (1775-1827) mother; Frances Olive Poteet (1782-1860). She had 10-11 brothers/sisters. Hope this helps. I am having a few problems with some family members. Good Luck & have fun. We just might be related. Becky Flowers - Daughter of Dale Flowers (Ca/TX)
PS We thought the last name was also Blackmore but its Blakemore.

William 1777 "has gone to Newfoundland"

I found the following record on the National Archives (UK) website, records for Kenton parish, Devon. It is part of their poor law records -- I'm not certain if they are saying that he returned from Newfoundland and is living in Topsham which might mean that Kenton parish would have to pay Topsham parish for his care.

William Blackmore 70 A/PO 6080 1777

Contents: Now in Topsham, he was born in Morebath and lived in various places until he was 21 when he came to Kenton to William Clifford Martin, esq. for a year a £5, since then he has gone to Newfoundland.

Re: Sarah Blackmore (Longnecker)

I found a Civil War Pension Card on both ancestry and fold3. The one on ancestry shows a William W Longnecker, Co D 52nd Illinois Infantry with widow Sarah Longnecker.
In 1891 William became an invalid; in 1895, Apr 6, there is an application no. 611720 and a certificate no 436815. Therefore, William Longnecker must have died before April 1895. Because Sarah Blackmore is not in the direct line I am researching, I don't think I'll order the pension record, but there may be other information there for all of you who are researching Sarah and/or William.

Hi I have just started researching into my family tree. My great great grandfather was Arthur Blackmore (Waterman) married to Sarah C Coppin. Their son, George Henry Blackmore (Lighterman) was my great great grandfather. Any recent news would be greatly appreciated.

O Granids
