When I first started my search 10 years ago (!), I had very little information to go by. Now I know that RD Blackmore is not directly related to my line of Blackmores, because he didn't have any children, but my mother thinks it's very possible we are indirectly related. My mother was named Lorna Blackmore in 1934. At her christening she was given the book Lorna Doone, by a relative. My mother brought that book with her to Canada when her mother (Elsie Crosby/ Blackmore/Saunderson) & her mother's 2nd husband Mark Saunderson immigrated to Canada in 1948. Unfortunately, she no longer has the book. :(
(All birth years are approximate, within a year or two)
I have been able to go back as far as 1801 to Richard Blackmore, b. 1801 married to Mary (Lane) b. approx 1803-1806 in Arlington, England. They were married in Shirwell (sp?) England, on Feb 19,1833. Her mother was Dorothy Lane, born approx 1766. Children of Richard & Mary Blackmore: Ann/Anne b. 1834, Charles b. 1835, Silas (my great-great-grandfather) b. Sept 1838 d. Mar 1899), Samuel b. 1841, Joshua b. 1844, Richard b. 1848.
Silas married Mary Ackland in June 1866 in Bristol, England. In the 1871 England Census their children were listed as: Mary Ann b. 1862 Reigate, Surrey, England, Richard (my great-grandfather) b. June 1867, George A. ("A." is probably Ackland) Blackmore b. 1870, Alice Lane b. 1871.
Richard Blackmore b. 1867 married Susan Maskell b. 1869 (in Pyecombe, Sussex), in June 1898 in Cuckfield, England. Children born in Edmonton, Middlesex: Gerald Ackland b. Dec 24, 1899 d. May 31, 1916 during Battle of Jutland, Terence Richard b. 1902, Marjorie Ellen b. 1904, Kenneth (my grandfather) b. March 1907, William b. 1914.
Kenneth Blackmore b. 1907 married Elsie Crosby b. 1902 (in Runcorn, Cheshire, England), in Edmonton, Middlesex Dec 1926. My mother, Lorna Blackmore, was born in London, England. Kenneth & Elsie divorced when my mother was 3 yrs old.
I am looking for any more information on this line of Blackmores, and I would love to connect with some of the descendants from this line. Would appreciate any help.
Thanks! :)
