Hi Darcy

I've been trying to find a missing link in my father's bloodline, and I'm hoping I have found it.

However, I can't be 100% certain at this time.

Basically, if my research is correct, then John Blackler is my 2nd great grand uncle. Quite exciting, really!!

I always thought my dad's family were Welsh, but when my mum told me that one of my dad's ancestors (on his father's side) had fled to Wales from Cornwall in England in the 1800s, I started to try to find the link. Apparently, the ancestor (Probably one of the Joseph Blacklers) shot a gamekeeper after being caught poaching, and fled with his family to Wales to avoid transportation to Australia or one of the other colonies. In the process, he changed his name from Blackler to Blackwell.

I know there is truth in the name change as my cousin has our grandfather's birth certificate which states his name as "Thomas Charles Blackwell (also known as Blackler)", but unfortunately, both my mum and dad are now dead, so getting further information is very difficult.

If we are related, I wondered if you would be able to shed some light from your side of the Atlantic?

Either way, it makes for interesting winter evenings!!

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Regards

Phill Blackwell

:)
