my husband is gareth calland
his father was Jack Calland 1922,
his father was Joseph Blackledge 1891 and mother Margaret Calland
they were not married until Jack was 8, he was brought up by his grandparents, hence the calland name!

I just read your posting from 7 years ago. I too am interested in the Blackledge family. I'm descended from Benjamin Blackledge, who was a son of Philip Blackledge and Willempie Conwell. They were living in Elizabeth, NJ.

I've recently started working on this line, and am trying to connect it back to the Boston/Hartford Blackledges.

Sorry I have not been looking lately. My husband and myself
have been sick latley and just have not had the time to look
but, I have a family tree on ancestry.com I am stuck on that
side where so older family members have given info. Just not sure about it. I can't find any proof of any marriage
of Elizabeth E. Blackledge. I have a copy of her headstone
that has her as Elizabeth E. Gaskins. Supposed to be in Mill Creek Cem. In Mississippi.

Tressie Ann Blackledge 1846-1926 Jones Co. Mississippi

The following information was gathered during research on G.C. Coker who married Trecy/Tressie about 1877.

Tressie Ann was the daughter of John and Elmira (Overstreet) Blackedge. John Blackledge (said to be son of Zacharia & Mary Blackledge), was born about 1794 and died September 11, 1871 in Jones County, Mississippi. Elmira Overstreet was born about 1809 in Georgia and died before 1870 in Jones County, Mississippi.

Tressie Ann is the spelling used on her headstone but the name is also noted in census records as Trecy and Teressa. She first married Wiley Roberson (census spelling) and had a son Wiley Roberson (jr.) who was born 1863. No other information was noted regarding either Wiley Roberson or proof of first name for Wiley Sr.

By 1870, Tressie had married John Hodges, an apparent widower with six children. Her son Wiley Roberson, age 7, also appears in the Wayne County, MS census along with twins Eliza & William, age one. John Hodges was previously married to Mary Cynthia Blackledge, whose relationship to Tressie Blackledge, if any,is unknown but likely can be found. John was listed as 62 years of age and most likely died prior to 1877 when Tressie married Gallant C. Coker.

Gallant and Tressie were there parents of Joseph Napoleon Coker, born 1879 and Etta Leona Coker born 1882. J. Napoleon married Ella (possibly Blackledge) and had 7 children. Etta married Archie B. Walters and they had 9 children.

Trecy had a brother Zachariah, born ca 1830 who is said to have moved to Texas, joined the Confederate Army there and died in the Civil War October 1862 at Vicksburg.

my line of descent is from James Blackledge through daughter, Catherine who married Charles McClellan. I have nothing further back on either side to add to what you have, but have found that James may have had at least 6 children: 1. Ellen born about 1820-25 possibly in NC and married Oct 12, 1842 in Leon Co FL to James E. Ritter; 2. Catherine born Oct 22, 1822 in Fayetteville-Cumberland Co, NC and married to Charles Davis McClellan--she died July 5, 1902 in Jefferson Co, FL; 3. Edward born Feb 24, 1824 in NC and married perhaps twice--1. Emily ? and 2 Nancy C. Foreham [Dec 1848 in Leon Co, FL]--he died Mar 28, 1913 in Henry Co, Alabama; 4. Caroline born 1832 [and living at one time with her sister Catherine in Jefferson Co, FL]; 5. a female whose name is unknown born about 1825-30; and 6. John R born 1834 in FL and died Jan 1857 in Jefferson Co, FL. There is a McClellan group in Jefferson Co, FL, with Bonnie McClellan a prominent member . I can find an address for her if you like. She has written a family history on the McClellan family and I have a copy. My line comes through Charles and Catherines youngest child, a daughter, Emily Idella, born 2/14/1855 in Jefferson Co, FL, married to James Perry Adams [Sr] 1/14/1880 and had 7 children, of whom 4 survived to adulthood. I had been told she was pregnant with my grandfather, Ancil Logan Adams, when they moved north to KY and he as born 10/2/1885. My dad is the 6th of 7 children born to Ancil and wife Jennie Taylor Adams. Ancil and Jennie moved to Indiana just before my dad was born in 1921 [not a long trip, just a move across the Ohio River from Louisville, KY to New Albany, IN}

AARON BLACKLEDGE was born August 42, 1827, near Somerton, Belmont county, Ohio. He is a son of Robert H. and Esther Blackridge. His father was a native of Bucks county, Pa., and was born February 7, 1794. His mother was a native of Chester county, Pa., and was born in 1798, and died in 1846., in her 48th year. Robert Blackledge emigrated with his parents to Greene county, Pa., at Rice's Landing, remained there until he was eight years of age, then with his father, William Blackledge, who was the grandfather of our subject, came and settled near Trenton, on the farm now owned by William Mitchner.
This William Blackledge, was a native of Bucks county,Pa.,and was born September 8, 1772, and died in his 80th year ; his wife was born August 2, 1769, and died October 21, 1855, in her 87th year.
Arron Blackledge, our subject, was married to Miss Lydia Dungan, October 9, 1850. They reared a family of three children. His wife died July 15, 1859. His father is now in his 86yh year , resides with him, and has resided on this old homestead about fourty-nine years. This farm was bought from the government by Benjamin Stanton, sold by Stanton to John Hollett, who improved it and sold it to Arron Thompson, and sold by Thompson to Robert Blackledge, the present owner, and father of Aaron.
