The first recorded Falkland baptism for Birrell is 13th June1669, David Birrell & Helen Pringell had a son William. On 17th April 1670 John Birrell witnessed the baptism of Andrew son of James Fforsaith(the Cooper) and Catherine Honeyman. The first Burgh Sasine for Birrell is when Andrew Birrell sells a house to the above 25th April 1705. I knew Jessie Forsyth and her sister Ann Lewis so if I can help your research, contact me.
Lesley Birrell

I am going out on a limb here. It would appear that he or her started a tree on Ancestry and just did the trial and left. This persons father was George Birrell and mother was Elizabeth Wemyss. It appears that he or she married a person with the last name Little. I would really like to get in touch with this person and compare notes. He or she would be a cousin of mine. I would greatly appreciate any help in hunting this person down. George was Born 1895 and passed 1947, Elizabeth 1905 and passed 1994. No idea when Lesley was born.

Robert Birrell b Falkland 1809/10/11?

Hi - I'm seeking assistance resolving the parents of Robert Birrell, b: circa 1810 in Falkland Fife, according to the census. He married Christian White, and I have a copy of that parish record. But there are at least two other Robert Birrell's in the same area of the approx age, one married a Betsy Chalmers and he is registered as being born in Falkland in 1809, but no other information fits, and Betsy Chalmers survives beyond the census record for Robert marrying Christian. Thanks for any help.

There is a Birrell family digest on rootsweb that you can subscribe to though. That may help you in your search. Sorry but do not think I can help at this time.

Colin

Hi Gregory,

I hit the link and it will not let me go anywhere unless I sign up. I would suggest that you go to tribalpages.com where it asks the name type in cbirrellfamily. All the info I have is on there. Although at this time I cannot see a direct link but stranger things have happened. I was doing some research on Birrells in Austrailia and found some people so please let me know if you make any connections. I drive a truck and not home much so I will try to reply when I get a chance.

Colin.

Should there be anyone interested there is a site where anyone with the last name Birrell can join. It is our own little community and although there are not many people on there at the moment If everyone joins and starts to interconnect then something might happen. It was started by a gentleman whom I met on line and there are siome interesting Birrell facts and people from all over the world. The website is birrelltv.webs.com. Just thought I would pass this on as the rootsweb community is always looking for new info.

I have done research on my family and do have quite a bit of info on my ancestors now. I put my tree up on ancestry if you want to have a look. I am in Canada so most of the place names are unknown to me but none of the names are even close to anyone in my tree.

Thanks anyway

Dudenjill

Seeking Info - Christine BIRRELL (b. 1858?) Scotland

Hi, my name is Laura Roosevelt and I am seeking information about Christine BIRRELL. Christine is my maternal great-great grandmother. BIRRELL is her married last name, as her maiden name is unknown but believed to be STUART.

Christine was born in Scotland around the year 1858. She may have been from Fife, but I’m not sure exactly where in Scotland she was from. Christine immigrated to the United States in 1883. She was married to William BIRRELL, who was born around 1855 and immigrated to the US from Scotland in 1882. The two were married in 1883, but I don’t know if the marriage took place in Scotland or the US.

Based on what I have found, she had 8 children, William BIRELL (b. 1883), Mary BIRRELL (b. 1885), Annie BIRELL (b. 1887), Donald BIRELL (b. 1889), Janet S. BIRRELL (my great grandmother, b. 1893), Stewart BIRRELL (b. 1896), Christine BIRRELL (b. 1899), and Evan N. BIRRELL (b. 1902?) (1900 and 1910 US Census). The family lived in Bethel, Fairfield, Connecticut.

Christine's daughter (my great grandmother), Janet BIRRELL was born in 1893 in Connecticut and married Nicholas J. DEFINE (b. 1895?). (1930 US Census)

Any information regarding Christine BIRRELL would be appreciated, especially confirmation on her maiden name (STUART?) or any information regarding her parents or place of birth in Scotland.

Laura Roosevelt
University of Connecticut
Also researching: Stuart, Birrell, Define/Defino/De Fino, Passerelli
