Marie, not sure but have a Bobby Birge son of Floyd and Pauline Birge but thats all for that family. As Mary posted Albie has passed away back in 1984, sister to Fredrick/Freddie and Floyd Birge. Are you perhaps the daughter of Fredrick/Freddie and Ethel?

Jerry

zimmy at invisimax dot com

Here is info on the Paletta Lakefront Park in Burlington, Ontario, Canada which was purchased by Cyrus Birge in 1912. Our family used to go swimming there when my grandfather would visit his sister Edythe.

http://cms.burlington.ca/Page385.aspx

Cyrus had another residence (tudor syle mansion on Lake Ontario) at 2024 Lakeshore Road East in Oakville which my grandparents (Charlie and Sue Birge) lived in as their main residence. Despite efforts by the Oakville historical society to preserve it, it was torn down for a new home in the 1980's.

There are wonderful memories at the Oakville house of a bygone age - we were so lucky to have experienced those times. Charlie Birge would belt out Louis Armstrong tunes on the piano in the living room at parties. Croquet was played in summer on one of the large lawns of the property. Many trees to climb and the attic was very spooky. Peter (gardener and chauffer) and Dora (cook) along with Charlotte (housekeeper) kept us all very spoiled.

Yes, Herman Birge is my great-great grandfather, and is almost certainly the father of Cyrus Birge, who's son Charles Alexander Birge was the father of my father, William Pentland Birge. They are all buried in St. Judes Cemetery in Oakville, Ontario (between Hamilton and Toronto).

Thank you for helping to shed some light on where the Canadian side of the Birge lineage originated.

Hi William, I have nothing on Jessie side since I'm only concentrating on the Birge family. I do not have any pictures but maybe Angela (Molder) Piper Anson, granddaughter of Ella Mae Birge might have something. I was trying to contact her since she posted on this link back in 2002 as Angela Piper but I think currenly married to a Anson. She has a tree on Ancestry called "The Molder Family". She might even be living in OK. If you need some help on the Birge side.. if for some reason you cannot find a link to the whole line up to Richard let me know.
Are you subscribed to Ancestry?

Jerry

Hi William, I see also there was a post by Angela Piper whom is also related to this same Harvey and Jessie. I was re-looking at this and I do have the right Harvey and Jessie. I did not know Jessie maiden name of Matthews. Is Rachel the same as Rebecca as in the 1930 US Census? Its hard to track the current living members so hope that Rachel will fill in more.. but I have her line back to the immigrant Richard Birge in CT. One thing hard to trace the Birge's is the various ways to spell the last name.
Harvey is the son of John Harvey Birge and Rebecca Noblet whom were in Benton Co., AR. Also, John was in Illinois, Missouri and born in NY.
Harvey was in Delaware County, OK before 1910. In 1910 his surname was spelled Bergen (another different spelling). I'm not sure of the spelling of the 1st daughter is its Unns, Unus for Unis or something else. In 1910, Jessie was listed as having 4 children of which only two were still living. Unis (?) and Albie.

Jerry

In a couple of the Histories of Counties in Ohio, it does mention that many of the frontier families after 1788 Or earlier, had to leave the area and retreat over toKY or back to their home from which they came, NJ or MD or ? One to get more reinforcements to the area, troops, meaning, and then once hostilities were put down, they then returned with their families.

A John MILLS, of Course, John, way too many of them, was also one of those people. He was first settler of Eaton Preble Co. OH. and did go back and forth to IN IL OH several times. Mostly looking for better land, and also being chased out because of the Indians, French or whatever were fighting at the time.

Possibly your stories about such things on the frontier were also documented in some of the Histories of Various counties in Illinois as well as in Indiana.

probably by now, most of these can be found at your local nearest LDS Family History Library center, and rented from microfilm for permanent loan. And or also on the internet, through the US GENWEB sites.

Best always.
Pat
cw
Seek info on an Eliza Belcher who married a George Burge. They had a daughter Eliza Ica Burge born about 1868 in Missouri. Eliza Belcher Burge must have died prior to 1880 as George BIRGE age 46 is shown with wife Mary age 18, and Liza age 11, Sarah 10, John 3, and James 5 months, in the 1880 Census at Elk River, McDonald Co. MO.

Anyone with any information on any of these names....would appreciate hearing from you. Belcher and Burge have been total dead ends for me for 20 years!

Thanks for any help. This is also an address update.

Valerie
Rebecca was married to Dennis Ogden and Marie was issue of that marriage, Rebecca later married James Land Owens they had several children including my father Jessey Owens, you can review the profile of my family at Jessey Owens. I have not been able to find what happen to Jim Birge or any family information on him. I only know he was in Chicago, Cook County Ill. in 1926. Marie's real name was Flacy Marie Ogden. She was born either in Okalahoma or Arkansas. My grandparents were american indians and were on the march from Okalahoma to Arkansas.
Hi Sam, the original post from Bill and Cam Birge is they are trying to find who the Canadian Birge tie to. I was able to determine Herman from Hartford, CT but not his parents yet. Herman information says he was from Hartford so one of the Birge lines in the Hartford area needs to be looked at. I have looked at a lot of Hartford ones but yet to pin point a Herman since census records will not show children so need a vital record from a church to find him. Your branch which is Cyrus of VT is different from the Canadian Cyrus. Herman is unusual for a first name in the Birge line. First Herman I have come across..
But I feel that there is other Birge's from Suffield Twp., Hartford Co., CT that were in Hamilton which is near Oakville in Ontario. That would be Morton Birge, son of Anson Birge. I only have 3 children for Anson so possible more unknown yet..

Jerry

Not sure if they are related but one of my gg-aunts Mary A. "Minnie" Drake who lived in Audubon Co married Robert M. Carpenter, Postmaster at Audubon, Iowa, born in Poweshiek County, near Grinnell, Iowa, January 29, 1854; he is the fifth of nine children of R. C. and Mahalah (Thurman) Carpenter. The father is a native of Kentucky, who in early life removed to Ohio, where he was married, and resided for a number of years; he is still living and is a resident of Audubon County, Iowa; the mother was a native of Ohio, and was a daughter of Levi Thurman.Robert M. Carpenter passed his boyhood in his native county, attending the district school, and working on the farm in the summer time. He attended Iowa College at Grinnell, and afterward Oskaloosa, remaining in the latter school two years. He began his career as a teacher, and followed this profession for nine years. In 1878 he removed to Audubon County, Iowa, and in the following year was elected superintendent of the Audubon County schools, which office he held for two terms, being elected on the Democratic ticket. In January, 1884, he became editor and proprietor of the Audubon County Advocate; he continued in this business until January 25, 1887, when he sold out the paper. October 27, 1887, he was appointed postmaster of Audubon, the appointment, being confirmed November 8, 1887; he assumed the duties of this office January 25, 1888, and is an efficient, accommodating officer. December 13, 1879, Mr. Carpenter was united in marriage to Miss Minnie A., daughter of Freeman Drake, of Audubon County, Iowa. Mrs. Carpenter was born in the State of Minnesota; they are the parents of two sons Maurice M. and Carroll C. {Minnie's father was also known an Firman Drake}. I recently found this information no the Iowa GenWeb site for Audubon Co; the source is 1889 Biographical History of Shelby & Audubon Co IA. If you come across any other information about the Robert Carpenter descendants, please let me know.
Well my Birges came to Arkansas and Missouri by way of Kentucky and Tennessee so if there is a connection to yours it would have to have been way, way back there. I have been trying to connect mine up to the East Coast Birges for 35 years and so far, no luck. Sorry. Mary
