Tara

Hope I could help out some way. When you finish, if it is something written, you should post your project here. Not only would others here be interested in your work but would make a good impression on your teacher when you handed it in and said, "Not only was it for school, but I published it".

good luck

Scotty A.

Do you know if there were any Choctaw Indians with the name Birge in Tuscaloosa County Al. My Great Grandmother was MaryAnn Birge who was born 1877 married Thomas Monroe Hosmer about 1895. I believe she died Dec 15, 1915. The 1910 Tusc. Co. Al. census says her name is Mayca. She died before the 1920 census.

Choctaw Birges

I dont know the answer to that one. I have not come across her name in my direct line; however I have not gone down all the cousins so it is possible. I would not think that the Birge name is derived from an Indian name though. If her name was Birge, it was taken from a european in some form or fashion (either marriage or adoption).

Thanks for your response. Now I really want to find out about her. It's a mystery.
Thanks again,

Mayca Birge and the Indian connection/Choctow

I have finally found at least some indication that I'm on the right track to find information about my full blooded Indian Great Grandfather. He migrated from VA to Mo and Texas but I never knew from where, or who his relatives were. I hope
your relative helps me find his tribe. He was born in 1848. His name was Harry Birge but his wife changed it. I wonder if she changed it from Burge to Birge. I'm going to check the census in Tucs. Ala, for more Birges. Thank you in case this solves the mystery. diancampbell2@yahoo.com

Mayca Birge {Burrage}

I just recently was told that her last name was Burrage instead of Birge. I hope this helps you. I still don't have information on her and would love to hear from you if you find anything.I did find a Nancy Burrage married into the Hosmer family in 1835 I'm thinking Mayca or also know as MaryAnn might have come from that family.Nancy's father was James Burrage. Nancy was married to Joseph Hosmer.
Sylvester Washington Hosmer Sr. was my GGG Grandfather. He was brother to Joseph.
I hope you can find a connection. MaryAnn
