Good Morning 8 years later. I am interested in John Sefcovic (Sefcovich). My father-in-law (Edward) was born in New York City to John Sefcovich and Paulina Fabis according to the 1920 US Federal Census. The 1920 census also lists siblings of Edward as Thomas and Anna. Unfortunately I have not been able to find anything before or after that time that identifies John. Something happened to Paulina and John OR John between 1920 and 1930, as Paulina apparently moved to Illinois between 1920 and 1930 as the 1930 Census lists Paulina, Edward, Thomas, and Anna associated with a Joseph Kadon.

Any leads would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking for relatives of John Bires born in Bardejov Slovakia. He lived for a while in Iowa. He had family that lived in Illinois. He was married to Mary ( Shirnotok) till 1914? when she died. Then he married Anna Halcza?

Virginia M. "Red" Bires, 90, of McKeesport and Liberty Borough, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011. She was born July 4, 1920, in McKeesport, a daughter of the late Roy and Bridget Atkinson Gay. She was the wife of the late Edward R. Bires (Bireschik). She is survived by son, Roy (Connie) Bires, of Swissvale; grandchildren, Brigitte (John) Busch, of Braddock Hills, and Julie (Brian) Curran, of Kensington, Md.; and great-grandchildren, Xander, Becca and Addie. She was preceded in death by siblings, Sarah Dunlap, Elma Conley, Jim Gay and Ronald Gay aka Arthur Kibe. She had worked for the former Jaisons Department Store and Sisters Clothing Store and previously worked in Duquesne Works during World War II. She was a lifelong member of West Side United Methodist Church and was a Sunday school teacher, former member of the McKeesport YMCA and was an avid vitamin advocate, gardener and loved feeding the birds. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the HUNTER-EDMUNDSON-STRIFFLER FUNERAL HOME, 600 Market St., McKeesport, 15132 (412-678-6191). Services will be held at noon Wednesday in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow.

I am looking for others researching Jozef Beres b: 1886(aka Josef Bires, Jozef Bires, etc) and wife Paulina Luptak b: 1889(aka Pualiny, Pauline etc).

The family is from Slovakia and they settled in Chicago. They had 4 children: Joseph, Steve, Mary and Andew.

I have photos and I can't identify the family members. I would appreciate any assistance in determining who the family members are in the wedding photos.

Hello, this post of yours was really neat to me. My grand-father was also named John Bires. To the best of my knowledge he came from Slovakia, and moved to Woodland, Maine where he married my grandmother, Melba. They had 3 children, John, David, and Marsha, then moved to Canada. My father being David, I am David Jr. We were always kind of facinated by our name because it is very uncommon to our knowledge here in New Brunswick. Anybody with information, it would be muchly appreciated.

my grandfather was John Bires. In 1920 census they spelled his last name Birse.My grandparents came from Hungary. They were slovak. My grandfather married Mary. They had 3 kids Lena,Frank,and Emily.I don't know if Mary died or if they got divorced. But John married Anna Hajza? and they had 8 kids. John,Anna,Mary,George, Joseph,Andrew and Michael and Helen.They lived in Detroit on maywood.

Sorry I pressed the wrong button. Anyway, Stefan married Maria Sefcovic, and they had 4 children: Marie, Steve, Ann and William. My mother was Marie and I am Marie and my daughter is Marie also. My mother Marie married Anthony Vasko and they had two children Anthony and Marie. I would be glad to give you any other information, not sure where you are. But you referred to Kuty which is where Maria Sefcovic came from with her sister Antonnete - their brother John Sefcovic had come earlier and ended up living in Schenectady, NY. WRite back, Marie

Hi, Your posting was 7 years ago, but I thought I would answer. My grandfather Stefan (Stephen) Bires immigrated to America, also his sister Stella and sister Helen. However he came from Cary, but married a woman Maria Sefcovic from Kuty. I visited his home village in l967 and met his sister, Albina, living there. Maria Sefcovic, her sister Annette, brother John immigrated from Kuty. We can find the records for JOhn when he entered but cannot find Maria (Mary) or Annette (Nettie). Are we talking about the same family?

I'm looking for information on Elizabeth Bires Ondo, she was born September 9, 1880 in Czechoslovakia and died September 17, 1965 at her daughters home in North Braddock, PA , her parents were Joseph and Mary Bires. She married John Ondo. Together they had these children, Mary, John Jr, Joseph, Elizabeth, Anna, Andrew, Paul, Veronica, Steve, Helen, George, and there may have been one more but I'm not sure.

I am looking for any and all information on her and her parents and grandparents, etc. Thank you for your help

If your ancestor had social security numbers http://ssdi.rootsweb.com or was naturalized citizen than those forms would have a place of birth.
Take a look in Ellis Island website to see if your ancestor might have come to America thru that processing center. www.ellisislandrecords.org
