Ahhh...this is better!

My Ancestry.com member name is birkwood....not birkwood31.

Best email address for me Dave is: birkwood@yahoo.com

Would like to have a sense of family again...have missed your mom and dad so much. Wish I'd been a bit older so I could have known you better.
Let's reconnect!

Am so excited and happy to hear from you...

I tend to go by Sal these days...not Sally, or Sally-Jean.
It feels more of the person I am...and I guess distances me more from my mom...which makes me happier.

Returned to college in 2010 to reinvent myself post layoff, and earn my first college degree.
I'm going for my Bachelors in Communication Arts.
Working on my first children's book this summer.
Created some programing for my town's public access TV station...it starts to air on Sunday. So...good things are afoot!

I'd love to know more about the Birch, Peterson side of the family. I still want to do more research on them...I've kind of hit a wall here and there in the British records.

Most of all...I'd love to have some family back in my life.

Thank you so much for reaching out to me Dave.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Love,

Sal

Thomas Considine Eliza Birch

Hi, I need help trying to find out some information about my GG Grandparents. My GG Grandmother Elizabeth (Eliza) was born in Ireland in 1805 and died in Melbourne in 1873. She married Thomas Considine and they had six children.
My GG Grandmother left Ireland 1853 and sailed from Plymouth on the "Prince Alfred" arriving in Melbourne, Australia Feb 1854.
Eliza sailed with children, but not with Thomas Considine her husband. Also the eldest daughter Catherine who would have been about 22 years old did not come with Eliza.
I gather Thomas Considine must have died and also, Catherine the daughter may have married and stayed in Ireland with her husband. Which means I cannot trace Catherine either.
Eliza's parents were William Birch & Eliza Furston who married in 1804 in Limerick.
I would appreciate any help I can receive.
Thank you
Edith Considine

Thanks very much for your reply. I have the book Arlington Heritage, by Eleanor Lee Templeman, which has given me some information on the Robertson,Birch,Deeble,Stalcup families. My husband's mother was Hazel Stalcup who married John Reynolds Robertson of a different Robertson line than that of the Robertson/Birch Robertsons. Can get very confusing. Do you have any old Stalcup photographs you would be able to scan and email to me? I have one not very clear snapshot of Edward Stalcup and Ben Stalcup with some other people who we cannot identify. Could you help with this? Ginny

Don't know much about specific Robertsons, but can tell you that you can probably find records of them in Fairfax County Virginia. I have seen this name in the course of my own research. Hope this helps. Samuel Fletcher Stalcup was the brother of my great-grandfather Joshua F. Stalcup and their parents were William and Elizabeth A (Hitchcock) Stalcup who moved to Fairfax County Va. from Cecil County Maryland about 1840-41. I do have Samuel and Joshua's entire line all the way back to about 1560s in Sweden.

Malinda Birch, Greene Co, PA

I am looking for the parents/family of Malinda Birch born in 1850 in either PA or MO. She appears on the 1860 census in Greene Co, PA as a 9 year old living with Corbly Gerrard, his wife Eliza and daugther, Virtue. On the 1870 census she is married to Jacob Livingood, my great grand father. I am unsure if the Gerrards were family but I feel this family was very important to Malinda as she and Jacob named their 1st son, Garard Ellsworth, for this family. Ellsworth was Corbly and Eliza Garrard's son (b. 1861). There are no Birch's listed on the 1850 Greene Co, PA census so I have come up with no leads but am hoping someone out there may have some information. Thanks in advance.

Julie Gwin (daughter of Shirley Livengood)

Birch, Dean, Whitehead, Swindells

I would like to locate any relatives of William Birch and his wife, Martha Ann Dean

William was born according to his U.S. Naturalization paperwork on September 25th, 1883 in Dukinfield, England.

William's parents were Emmanuel Birch (born 1857 or 1858) and Sarah Jane Raines (born 1859).
From what I can tell, Emmanuel Birch's father was named John Birch, and Sarah Raines' father was named Joseph Raines.
Emmanuel Birch and Sarah Jane Raines married on July 29th, 1878 in Dunkinfield, Cheshire, England

William Birch's siblings are:
Annie, Alfred, John, Violet and May Birch.

(Not sure if I'm missing any siblings...because I have a book that belongs to it looks like a Walter(?) Birch, presented by the Rector of Christ Church Day School Denton on Christmas of 1895

Supposedly (per my late father), William Birch was a soccer player for Manchester United and the Glasgow Rangers, but I've been unable to verify this.

He married my grandmother Martha Ann Dean some time in 1904.
I've been unable to locate any marriage records online from Christ Church, Denton, England.

I believe that William then attended night school and became a 'machinist' before sailing to the States.
I have an old book which William was given by Denton Evening Continuation Schools for 'regular attendance during the 1896-1897 sessions'.

William sailed to the U.S. on September 22, 1904 on the Republic, sailing from Liverpool, England and landing in Boston, Massachusetts.

When he applied for his U.S. Naturalization on May 2, 1905 he was the assistant engineer at a thread mill which was probably located in Pawtucket, R.I.

William died as the result of a factory accident, on December 16,1921 at the age of 37.
I never had a chance to meet William, but my dad told me many wonderful stories about him. I'd like to know more, and hopefully connect with members of his family.

His wife, Martha (Dean) Birch, sailed over on the Saxonia out of Liverpool on November 29th of 1904, landing in Boston, MA on December 9, 1904

Martha's family also sailed over...her older sister Mary Ellen Dean, and her mother and father...Joseph Dean (who grew up in Ashton-under-Lyne and Ellen (Dean) Whitehead(?)

My great aunt Mary (Dean) sailed out of Liverpool on the Ivernia on July 18th 1905 and landed in Boston, MA on July 27th 1905.

Thus far I've been unable to find out if Aunt Mary's parents Joseph and Ellen Dean...sailed over on the same ship with her.

I have an address for the Dean family, prior to the marriage and emigration to the States of: 23 Joseph Street, Dane Bank, Denton, England via an old hymn book.

And I have a tattered 'Psalms of David' which has the notation that it belongs to an Esther Swindells as of March 18,1821 and an additional notation that Esther Swindells was born on October 11th, 1778 and that a Thos. Swindells was born on February 15, 1783.

(My dad wrote in the hymn book mentioned above, that Esther Swindells was HIS great, great grandmother.)

I also met two elderly ladies living in the Pawtucket(?) RI area when I was young...Lena and Betty Hague.
My dad told me they were cousins...but I'm not sure how we're connected. All I know is their brother Joseph Hague lived with them at some point, and he was a 'dog fancier' according to my dad.

So I've gotten back as far as the British 1891 census, and possibly have some correct information from the British 1861 census.

As all my immediate family have passed away, and none of my cousins are in touch. Being an only child, I'm looking for more family history and more of a sense of my dad's English relatives and their roots.

I hope someone can help me, and I hope the above information might also be of help to someone else.

Thank you.

S. Birch

I currently have minimal information on the William Birch and Sarah Ann Jones Family. I have the 1881 British Census from Broughton which shows Elizabeth (77)(Edward must have died at that point). Apparently Elizabeth was born in Leeds, but no information on Edward.
I will be happy to share what I have, but at the moment, my genealogy program is on a computer that doesn't do internet anymore, so I'm working back and forth on two machines.
