Hi,

So I have recently discovered a few more direct ancestors & their children a couple of days ago in my paternal lineage ..& during this I came across this unusual middle name "Binkhausen" aka Binkhorson, Binkauson, Birkhorson. I would like to give the details of this family & if anyone has any further suggestions or knows this family could you please contact me & help me out here? As a guess, this name Binkhausen does not look "English" to me, but more perhaps German in origin?

I will start with William Bilton, my 4th g.gndfather & b.~1786 in Hertford, Hertfordshire & d.May 1865 Enfield St Andrew, Hertford, Middlesex. He was a carpenter (as per children's bapt. records, census & marriage records etc). *parents may possibly be Robert Bilton & Ann Schooling.

His wife was Sarah (nee ?) b.~1789, also of Hertford, Hertfordshire & d.1854 Enfield, Middlesex. *Parents may possibly be Edward Dawson & Mary Titmas/Timuss, b.25 May 1777.

William & Sarah's residence from at least 1816 through to ~1861/1865 was Enfield Town, Enfield, Middlesex. Their children(~9) were all born at Saint Andrew Einfield, Hertfordshire. Those who I can confirm through bapt. records are :


1/ George BINKHAUSEN / Binkhousen Bilton, b.5 Mar 1816, d.Apr 1898. Also a carpenter. He m.1st. Elizabeth Wright (1816-1850 d. of John & Isabella), m.17 May 1814.
Children;
1.William John, 1841-1867,
2.Elizabeth Sarah Hart nee Bilton, b.1844, m. Henry Hart 1867., 3chn.
3.George Binkhausen Bilton, 16 Jan 1848-Apr 1898.
4.Charles Bilton, 1849-1920, m.Emily Pavey(2x widowed,h.1.Moore & h.2.Slow).
George m.2nd. Susannah Garman(1827-1911, d. of Francis Garman & Hannah Hoare)m.1858,
2 daughters; Alice Jane & Kate Matilda.

(I will not list the rest of the grandchildren as it is getting too long & I'm tired lol)

2/ Henry Bilton b.1818
3/ Sarah bilton b.1819 m. Charles Taylor. 12 (yes, twelve) children.
4/ Eliza Bilton b.1820 m. George Addison, 8 children.
5/ Matilda Caroline Bilton 1822-1906. m. Charles James Norris (1817-1889) m.1849. 7 children. (Charles previously m. Jane French, had 7 children & was widowed 1848.)
6/ William bilton b.~1822 m. Mary Ann (maiden name?). 2 children.
7/ Ann Bilton b.1824 m. John Scott ~1840, ~4 children.
8/ Martha BIlton b.1826
9/ Sarah Jemima Bilton b.1828 m?

In summary, the surnames I am looking at here are Bilton, Binkhausen, Wright, Garman, & possibly Dawson. I would really like to find out where this name has come from!
