Gombitelli di Camaiore is a small hamlet of about 120 people. There are several predominant family surnames in that town, including CERU.

I have a working list compiled from the vital statistics data of Camaiore available at the Family History Library in SLC w/ over 200 CERU names on it. Happy to look things up for folks.

Another big name in Gombitelli (as well as Camaiore) is DOMENICI. Also interested in sharing data w/ anyone doing research into this surname.

Other surnames include TRIGLIA & BIAGI. You should investigate the FHL in SLC to find out if they have info. on your family.

In my family:
1) Maria Biagi m. to Silvio Dominici.
2) Casimiro Biagi is uncle to some of my CERU relatives. His father was Pietro Biagi; mother was Albina Triglia. Married to Josephine. Worked in terrazo and tile. I'm trying to find out how he was related to the CERU family. Also, if he worked in Gombitelli as one of a number of artisans who made plaster figurines ("figuristi di gesso"), including my g-uncle Paris Domenici.

3) Fulgeniso Biagi was on the same ship as my g-grandfather Natale Ceru, Agostino Gemignani, and Cristoforo Triglia, all from Gombitelli. Fulgensio B's father was already in NYC. Trying to figure out who that was and if connection to Natale.

4) Celestino Triglia, E. Magnani, and Pietro Biagi emigrate from Gombitelli in 1889 to NYC.

Trying to find connections between these families and the Ceru & Domenici families listed in my family trees (see www.gencircles.com or www.ancestry.com).

Any insights greatly appreciated!

My grandfather's (ceru) family came from Gombitelli and moved to the U.P. in Michigan, then to the Kalamazoo area where they live today. My father tells me that they orignally came from Belgium around 600-800 years ago. We still keep in contact with folks over there, as my father visted and his brother and his family flew over as well. When he showed me slides, one of the maiden names that came up was Biagi. This fall I'll be traveling to Italy for study abroad and will visit the family. Perhaps I could find out more for you?

I was hoping to connect with someone from the MI-branch of the Ceru family! Thanks for responding. While I don't think we are directly related, I am not positive. So, I would be very interested in how far back you can trace your Ceru family.

I visited Gombitelli in Fall '05. It is a lovely village. Both of my grandparents were from that village, and there are still living relatives on the Toni side of the family. I hope to return in Sprin '08.

I would love to share more information. You can e-mail me directly if you want.

And a couple years later I respond... lol!

Since my posting I have been to Italy and, in fact, Gombitelli. I was able to visit some of my relatives over there, and got a better grasp of the connections.

My Ceru family originally came from Gombitelli, though now only one of my grandfather's first cousins still live there, Elda. Her sister who also lived there, Natalia, passed away a few months ago.

Their other sister, Ilia, lives in Lido di Camaiore with her husband, Carlo (Maggini), who is also from Gombitelli. When I was in the area I stayed with them. He and their two sons own a metal parts factory in the area. Paolo is married with two sons, Carlo (married) and Luca, while Gaetano is divorced. Both the sons and one of Paolo's sons, Carlo, work at the factory. Paolo's other son, Luca, lives in Florence and is finishing design school.

The other brother, Paolino, is married with two grown children and lives with his wife and daughter in Torre del Lago. He owned a construction/cement business but has sold it and been retired for a while now.

The family that came over to the US was my great-grandfather (Ceru) and his wife and her sister, Emolia and Ermalina. Their last name was Biagi I believe...have to get some more background info for sure.

When I was in Italy Paolino took me to Gombitelli and I met Elda and Natalia and her husband. He also showed me where Ilia, their father (I think...once again, it was all Italian and I'm pretty sure I understood) lived, where my Dad stayed when he was there in the 70's.

This is my ablum on Facebook from the first time I was there with them in fall of 07.

Would be interested to learn more about which branch of the Ceru' family is yours. My mother's family is also Ceru'. I was there in 2005 and again in 2008 to visit a cousin. I'm sure the village has changed dramatically since your last visit. You can contact me directly at cjrenzop-at-yahoo.com. I look forward to hearing from you.

I know you posted a long time but I just saw this. My Grandfather Giulio was Consolata's brother and they came to Ellis Island from Gombatelli in 1913 with his wife Virginia and Consolata and settled in the Bronx. I would like to know if you are still checking these boards. My grandfather died in 1985 at the age of 101.5 and was healthy and mentally sharp as a tack until the very end. My grandmother Virginia died at the age of 78. My grandfather's brother Ovedio owned a hotel in Gombatelli that is still there today called the Hotel Biagi. My grandparents had 3 children, Julia, Adolph and Ida, Ida was my mom and she passed in 2005, my uncle passed in 2004 and my Aunt Julia in 1966 from complications from surgery at 52. My Aunt Julia only had one son who died as an infant. My mom married my dad Mario Matri and had five children, Henry, Stephen, Richard, Marilyn and myself Carolyn. We live in NY and NJ. My Uncle had three daughters, Julianne, Virginia and Lorraine. They live in PA and NJ.

Hi Carolyn,
My name is Dennis Triglia and I am your second cousin (see below):

Carolyn Matri is your 2nd cousin...

Ida "Eda" Biagi (1923 - 2005) is your mom.

Virginia Emma "Virgie" Triglia (1887 - 1965)
is your grandmother and my grand aunt.

Ferdinando "Fiore" Triglia (1854 - 1932) is my great-grandfather AND the father of Virginia Emma "Virgie" Triglia and her brother, my grandfather, Gabriel Triglia (1897 - 1988)

My father is Aldo Joseph Triglia (1925 - ), son of Gabriele Triglia.

Thanks for sharing your information. I just got back from Gombitelli last month and took over 100 photos of headstones in the Cemetery (I uploaded them to Findagrave.com and to ancestry.com) and spoke to several of the older folks in Gombitelli. I have been researching Triglia, Gemignani and Ceru since 1983 (before the internet). If you would like to contact me, my e-mail is trigliad@yahoo.com.

Best wishes,
Dennis Triglia
