Wilhelmas Pitcher
B: Dec 1777, , Albany
D: 11 Dec 1849, Candor, Tioga, NY - Buried in Zimmer Cemetery

Is this your guy? If so I would love info on his family. I don't know his spouse or kids. His father is Peter Pitcher Born 1750 in Germantown, Columbia, NY and he died 1829. I don't have the mother for that family. His parents were William Wilheim Betzer and Magdalena Dunsbach. My line actually comes down from Peter's younger brother, Wilhelmus Bitzer. I have more dates and such, as well as a couple generations above there - at least based on the stuff I've gathered.

There are several conrad's with Betzer and Bitzer last name in the Chillicothe area, so I will have to check my records more. most are still on paper from before the internet.

Betzer (Bitzer) Family - Hallsville,Ohio

Hi, while I do not appear to have a link to this family I do have a brief piece of information about this family. This is an excerpt from the Economy/Hallsville, Ohio Sesquicentennial guide - June 21-22, 1987.

"In 1796, Conrad Bitzer came with his wife from Berks County in PA via Portsmouth to Chillicothe, Ohio, passing but one hut on the way up the Scioto. They settled for the winter in what was probably an abandoned indian cabin, on Blackwater Creek in Green Twp. His son John was born here in June, 1797. In 1801, they moved to the west half of Section 18 in Colerain Twp. That year a daughter, Elizabeth was born. She was probably the first white child born in what is now Colerain Twp."

They were residing in Culbertson, Hitchcock Co., Nebraska. Are they any relation to Jacob Rowe Betzer? He was a son to John G. Betzer, who is my 1st cousin 3 times removed.

Florence,

I might be able to help you more if I had more information. When was your Elsa born, and where? I think the census gives that kind of info, along with her parents' places of birth. Although I don't have her in my tree, I would say that the chances of a relationship are better than 50%, given the time, and location.

Nicole

In the book "Churchbooks of the Betzer Union/Zion Reformed Church, 1817-1881, Bloom Twp., Fairfield Co., OH", Fairfield county chapter OGS, 1994, p 1, it says that "The history of Fairfield county records that in 1816 the Lutheran and German Reformed congregations were holding services, in common, in a log hewn building located four miles southeast of Lithopoliss, then known as the Betzer Church, so called, because the church was placed on a tract of land formerly owned by Mr. Peter Betzer. Services were conducted in both German and English".

Betzers etal connections in the Caribbean?

I noted that a Reason posted to the bd and that is also a variation on Raison/Raisin (Rezin/Reason(er) etc)
The Huguenots were granted land in VA, but also in the Caribbean, Santo Domingo, Jamaica...the British had councilates set up there too. This info would tie into the Millers, also. There were strong French/German or Palatine/Huguenot connections prior to being in America and these folks seem to keep tying in together, by all spellings. I noticed the newer post (2005) with reference to a researcher who lst tied some of this together. Any Ryder/Ritter connections to the Betzers/Bitzers, I wonder (Phillipe Ridore/o of St Dom)
please contact me at the following email addy:

artogo4u@yahoo.com

I can't seem to get the one changed, that shows up as mine, on these msg bds. Thanks.

I haven't been able to find Pitzers in NJ, tho that's where Hannah shows to be born, the dtr of Micheal. I'm thinking she may've been from the Bitzers there as I've got Cornwells who went from NJ to Ohio showing they were born there and after dropping the 'w' my Cornell married another line of Pittsers. I think somr of these lines got blurred. Hoping to find the Betzer/Pitzer website, if it's still up and running; I'd love an invite to that site! Please send invite to me at:
artogo4u@yahoo.com
Thanks!

Jacob BETZER, Alsace and CA

Stockton Daily Independent
Stockton, San Joaquin Co., CA
20-25 May 1872
*************************
ACCIDENTAL DEATH -- Sonora 'Democrat' -- Jacob BETZER, an old resident of
Big Oak Flat, came to an untimely end on the evening of May 7th, by falling
off a bridge on the road leading from Spring Gulch to the Flat. It seems
that he had been on a visit to the house of M. MARCONI, and while returning
missed his foot-hold on the bridge and fell to the ravine below, striking
his head on a rock, thus causing his death. Several persons were present at
MARCONI's during the time BETZER was there, and state that he indulged in a
few glasses of wine, but not sufficient perhaps to produce intoxication.
The deceased was a native of Alsace, aged about 45 years and married. A
Coroner's jury was summoned by Justice J.D. MURPHY and a verdict rendered
in accordance with the above facts.

Re: Frank & Emma Betzer

Frank's real name was William Frank Betzer. He was born in Troy Mills, Iowa on 04 Nov 1887/8. Died Salem, Oregon on 30 Nov 1950. His wife's name was Emma, but I don't know her maiden name. She died 29 Aug 1956. I believe Frank's mother was Myrtie Betzer (maiden name or widow?), as I found an IGI record of Myrtie marrying Geo. Morarie on 21 Apr 1891. George married? Jessie M. McIlwain sometime aft. 1891. His oldest dau., Aura Hazel was born Feb, 1892. My mother (dau of Otis Dale Morarie b. 1897) remembers Uncle Frank Betzer, but had no idea where he fit into the family. Frank and Emma had 3 children, but I had no knowledge of any of them being adopted. The children my mom knew of are: Raymond, Joyce, and Julia. If you have found any other information, I'd love to hear from you.

Susanna Betzer Wittes b. December 09, 1819 in Synder, PA, died Lucas Co, OH

Dear Betzer and Wittes cousins,
I'm trying to do some looking into the Betzer surname all the way back to Snyder County, PA. I grew up in Whitehouse, Ohio and there are may Wittes cousins who are descendants of Susanna Betzer in the area. I have traced us back to Snyder County, PA, and now am trying to continue my research all the way from out here in California! Below is my road map. I can pretty much vouch for the accuracy of what I have on Susanna Betzer, born December 09, 1819 in Snyder County, PA, and her husband, Isaac Wittes, born June 23, 1818, as they are my my great great great grandma and grandpa. As for ancestors and siblings, as well as kids other than my great great grandpa, well, I'm still working on it! Isaac was killed at the Battle of Antietam, following which, Susanna Betzer Wittes took two of her many children to Lucas County, Ohio. I'm happy to share info.

I have more info on younger generations than I have posted here. I just did the older relatives for privacy.
I have a John R. BETZER b 1816 in Ross Co., OH, but he married in 1840 to a Caroline CHANEY. They are in Bloom Twp., Fairfield Co., OH in 1850. John R.'s father is Peter, whose 1857 partition records listed John R. as being of Linn Co., IA. In the 1850 census, John and Caroline appear to have three ch., Eliza Jane 9y, Mary Ann 7y, Irwin/Irvin 1y. The first two ch I have exact birthdates and baptismal dates.

You didn't list any dates for your John, but the similarities are that they are both a s/o Peter, and both ended up in Linn Co., IA, and both had a child named Irvin.

Ah-ha! Now I see. I misread it as "his MOTHER was Lucinda...". I see now that you said it was his wife. You didn't mention a mother. I show his mother to be Elizabeth Barbara Ray.

I don't research them much after they leave Fairfield county, Ohio, except if I happen to find them later I do put in their burial location and death date, or census info if I find them. What I have on the BETZERs is on one of my sites at http://www.geocities.com/foorgenealogy/gene.html "Genealogy in Bloom twp., Fairfield Co., OH".

My father Ronald Eugene Betzer was the son of Arnold Todd Betzer of Kansas City, in fact he was born Arnold Todd but then later changed it to Ronald Eugene. If you have any more information about my grandfather, I would love to hear. He died when I was very young, but my father still has some poems and things that he has written. A.T. has many grandchildren in the KC area.
