State police at Greensburg are seeking information on a partial grave headstone dating back to the 1700s found late Tuesday in Hempfield.

Greensburg resident Mary Jo Gray found the headstone, which contained the name Catherine Mechling and the date 1773, while walking her dog at 9:30 p.m. in an area off Braveheart Drive in the Bovard section of the township, police said.

The headstone is being kept in the evidence department at the state police barracks.

Police are requesting anyone with information that may help determine the burial site of Mechling notify Trooper Steve Limani at 724-832-3288.
