Heading: OLD PIONEER OF LAKE ANN DIES
Mrs. Mary Ellen Colwell, 81 pioneer resident of the Lake Ann community, died Wednesday following a short illness.
Mary Ellen Jolls was born September 23, 1862 in Northshade, Mich., and was later united in marriage to George Colwell at Montgomery, Mich. This couple moved to the Lake Ann section 54 years ago and has since made it their home. Mr. Colwell died three years ago.
Mrs. Colwell was well known in the Lake Ann region and was an active member of the Methodist church there. Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Merritt B. Perkins of this city, two grand children and eight great grandchildren. Two sisters, Mrs. Frances Youmans of Grawn and Mrs. Carey Holiday of Harbor Springs, and a brother, Vean Barber of Mesick, also survive.
The body was taken to the Hibbard Funeral Chapel where it will remain until time of funeral services, to be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the Lake Ann Methodist church, Rev. Kenyon officiating. Burial will be in the Lake Ann cemetery.

Note: I believe that the year of death was 1944. Daughter, Lillian M. Perkins, was married to Merritt B. Perkins of Traverse City, Grand Traverse, MI.
