This past fall I researched courthouse records in Todd County, Kentucky, where Babel Benson died around 1840. Probate records there indicate that my ancestor, William E. Benson was Babel's son. A marriage record for William E. Benson states he was born in Greene County, Tennessee, and his age on that record and most census records indicates he was born abt. 1805. The probate records are scattered through the will books, and some are also found in the court order books. Reference to a chancery court lawsuit involving the estate settlement is also found in Todd County deed books. I'm not sure that I've located all the records, as some of the court order books are not indexed. From what I was able to find, it appears that Babel had a son named John who lived in Illinois and a daughter named Ellen who lived in Todd County. I would be happy to share details of this information with other researchers of this family. I'm looking for the sources of the parent and marriage date and place info for Babel Benson that I see posted on numerous family trees. I also note that a number of these family trees state Babel Benson died in Greene County, TN, in 1831, which is apparently not true.
