IDA BENOIT - TEWKSBURY MA - SOMEONE OUT THERE MUST KNOW OF HER :(

Ida Benoit

I feel like I have been looking for this woman FOREVER. I would honestly think that she did not exist however according to my grandmother's birth certificate, she did.

My grandmother, Florence Bilodeau, was born Aug. 3, 1901 in Massachusetts. Mother listed as Ida Benoit, and father is not mentioned.

(I have no idea why seeing Florence states her father as Alfred Bilodeau in 1921 when she marries)

It says residence is Tewksbury MA and thats pretty much it.

I DO NOT know if Benoit was her maiden name or her married name, all I know is that she gave birth to my grandmother in 1901 and for some reason Florence shows up living with the Bilodeau family in Lowell (listed as granddaughter) in 1910 census.

Evidently she has been out of the picture a long, long time.

I did see in a really old article that a posting was put in by the Red Cross. They were looking for an Ida Benoit on behalf of her brother. Could be the same one. That Red Cross is no longer around.

Does ANYONE out there have an Ida Benoit from Massachusetts in their tree?? I dont know the circumstances of my grandmothers birth but for whatever reason she was not raised by Ida.

Any thoughts are appreciated. :)

I am looking for information on my GG Grandfather Charles Gustave Benoit. He was born in Neuchatel, Switzerland - date unknown and emigrated to Australia. He was married in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia 1858 and died in 1887 in Springvale, Melbourne. He had 6 children and was married to Maria (Burns). One son, Charles Simeon Benoit I believe moved to Tasmania. I am decended from another son - William Henry Benoit and his son was my Grandfather Alfred Leslie Benoit. Any help would be fantastic. There are not a lot of Benoit's in Australia.

Charles Louis Benoit and Azilda (Asilda) M Benoit

Charles is my Great Granfather, Canadian born, who emigrated to the US, probably Lawrence MA, sometime before 1872. He is reported in the Lawrence City Directory in 1872 working as a Watchman at the Pacific Mill in Lawrence. He is listed in the City Directory for almost every year thereafter and I have been able to obtain a lot of information about is life and residences. He is also recorded in the all US Federal Census as living in Lawrence.

In the 1880 Census he is recorded as living with his wife Hulda, two sons - Wiliam (age 2) and Charles (age 4) and with his sister Sarah (age 21). Marriage records show Charles married to Azilda or Asilda Benoit or possibly Bennett. In either case, family members think it might have been a marriage of cousins. Her death Certificate lists Eusebe Benoit and Angele LaPres as her parents.

Charles also had a brother Louis would at times lived with him and later on married Henrietta (Hattie) Niewell (sic). I have been able ot follow his family as well.

Charles had 7 children - in age order - Charles L Jr, William (died at age 4), Arthur B, Oliver A, Armand W (my grandfather); Hector H & Isabelle J. Except for Hector, I have located a lot of information on the rest.

According to Charles' death certificate, his father was Benjamin Benoit and his mother was Mary or Marie Comeau. Louis (his brother) lists the same as his parents.

Interestingly, the Lawrence City Directory for 1968/69 shows both a Eusebe Bennoit (sic) and a Joseph Bennoit (sic) living together and a Benjamin Benoit living not far away.

The trail goes cold from there. I cannot seam to locate either a parent or records of births or baptisms to trace my linage back.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have gathering my documentation for a few months..

I have not had much success regards connecting myself to my ancestor :Anne l'Official . I do know that she was a full blooded M'k Maq , she married Francois - the first Benoit to settle in Newfoundland-on 20 June 1790 at Sandy Point, Nfld in the 1790's. He was born 1763 in Iles Malouines. He died after 1839 in Bay St. George, Nfld.. Ann L'Official's parents were: Henri l'Official and Isabelle [Nannette] Shegone.

I believe that she connects to me through Milli (Millicent Eunice Chaisson), my grandmother. I have documentation so far that shows that: Milli's parents were Josephine and Lawrence Chaisson(maiden name Chiasson), Lawrence's father was Naziree Chaisson, I think. I know that Josephine's parents were: Julian Chaisson and Jane (Jenny) Benoit. Is Jane a descendant (daughter or granddaughter) of Ann L' Official, I am trying to find out?

I would welcome any help, hints or direction. Sorry to be so long winded- but, genealogy is very interesting.

Need any information on a connection between the BENOIT and LONDROSH/LONDROCHE/LANDROSH/LANDROCHE names. My GGG grandfather was born ca 1814 and married in 1839 (Little Chute WI records) as Jean Baptiste Benoit. He appears in the 1850 WI census Fort Winnebago records as John B. Londrosh. I know they are the same person due to the same wife, Josette Monagre, and family oral history that tells of the name change. The oral history states that the change took place in France because there were so many people named BENOIT in the town that the mail kept getting mixed up so my ancestor changed his name to that of his wife, LONDROCHE. I found the name change between 1839 and 1850 (as above) in Wisconsin, so possibly the names were used interchangeably over a period of years. One researcher says that the father of Jean Baptiste was Francois Benoit, but I feel that this is only because the two appear one above the other in the book Wisconsin Creoles, but there is no documented link between the two.

Seeking descendants of Peter and Eleanore Benoit of Detroit, Michgan. 1850 – Lost contact with family in the 1940’s.
6. Pierre6 Benoit (Peter) (Michael5, Francois4, Francois3, Jacques-Francois2 Benoit det Laguerre, Jacques1 Benoit) was born circa 1813. Pierre died circa 1875. His body was interred 2 June 1875.

He married Eleanore Charbonneau 12 August 1845. Eleanore was the daughter of Felix Charbonneau and Marguerite Leduc. Eleanore died 11 March 1895. Her body was interred 11 March 1895.

Pierre Benoit (Peter) and Eleanore Charbonneau had the following children:

I'm looking for information regarding the Lima Benoit family, living in Barrio Mosquitos on Vieques, Puerto Rico during the early 1900s.

The father's surname was Lima and he was from Portugal, the mother was Engracia Benoit (mispelled "Bennuá) in the census registers. They had two daughters, Eustacia and Maria.

Eustacia married Evaristo Melendez Otero and moved to Fajardo. Maria remained on Vieques at least through 1930 and she married twice, her first husband's surname was Nolasco, and the second husband was Ulises Reyes Mercado.

William (Willie) Benoit married Laura Houle on 08 May 1906 in Ludlow, MA. Father Desrochers presided at the wedding. William was born in Springfield, MA about 1883, the son of Joseph Benoit and Mary Day of New York. His wife Laura was born 18 March 1887, daughter of Amédée Houle and Rose-Anna Doucet,baptized Maria-Emma Laura Houle on 20 March 1887 at Ste. Eulalie parish, Nicolet, QC. Her god parents were Philippe Aubry, an uncle, and his wife Adèle Doucet. The marriage register indicates that both of them lived in Ludlow, MA at the time and worked in the local mills. Laura was 19, a mill operative, and William was 21, a weaver. (Mass State Archives, Marriage register, town of Ludlow, MA, vol 563, pg 138)

William signed his name on several church records... he used “Willie,” “Willy,” and “Welly”

Found in Springfield, MA in the 1910 US Census, with oldest child, Freddy.
Found in Lawrence, MA in the 1920 census with 5 children: Freddie, Irene, Edward, Rita, Edna.
It is believed that they had a 6th child, Gladys, born after 1920, who was taken to live with an uncle (Laura’s brother) in Pontiac, MI. Before her death, my mother recalled alcoholism problems with one of the parents. As a result, they were not allowed to visit with their aunt, uncle or cousins, living in the same city. Family tradition is that Freddy or Freddie ran away with the circus.

Looking for:
(1) Date/place of death for both Willie and Laura
(2) Any information on children. Did find a Gladys Benoit in Social Security Index which is a possibility... Nothing else known on the remaining children.

ANY clues, leads, etc. would be appreciated. Laura was my grandfather’s sister. If you are a descendant of this couple, I will be happy to share what information I have on Laura’s siblings.

I'm looking for information on Robert J BRUCE born abt 1844 in Alabama. I know that he moved to Mississippi and then Louisiana, and his wife Emilia (or some form of Emilia) Benoit born 25 Nov 1845, Grand Coteau, Louisiana.

My trouble lays in that the only Robert J BRUCE I can find has his wife listed as Martha E. They do have a son listed 1880 Census named Joseph, age 2 (I know that Robert and Emilia has a son named Joseph born abt 1875).

I do not have any other children listed for Robert and Emilia, although the 1880 Census has John, Mary, William and Joseph listed.

Could the 'E' in Martha E stand for Emilia?? Does any of this sound like your tree??

Any help you can offer is greatly welcomed.

Hello. I'm trying to find information on Remy (Remi) Benoit born about 1884 likely in Acadia Parish, LA (maybe near Crowley).
He married May Lauvier (b. 1890; d.1923) and had 4 children with her. Luda (b. 1910), Norris (b. 1915), Mildred (b. 1918), and Alvord (maybe AKA "Jimmy") (b. 1922).
After May's death in 1923, he remarried Merante and had one additional child, Leona (AKA "Baby") (b.1926).
Adding Remy Benoit to my family tree resulted in a link to an Etienne Benoit (b. 1854, d. 1911) as the father of Remy. However, as best I can tell the son of Etienne Benoit whose name was Remy (Remi) would have been born in 1880 not in 1884. Therefore, I think that this may be a false link. I'm trying to figure this out.

I am trying to find more information on Otto BENOIT and his wife Sophie VESPER. Otto was born November 1865 in Germany and came to the US in 1888, per the 1900 census. Sophie was born January 1875 in Germany and came to the US in 1884 per the 1900 census. They were married in 1901 in NJ. He was apparently married once before. They lived in Mercer County, NJ (Hopewell) in 1900 and 1910, then in Riverside, Burlington Co., NJ in 1920 and 1930. I am particularly interested in Sophie's family.

Seeking info on the family of Ellen Benoit who married August Johnson in 1918. She was suppose to have grown up on a farm around New Baltimore, MI. They spent their married life in Detroit. Both are buried in Livonia, MI. They had only one child - August Lincoln Johnson (born on Lincoln's Birthday 1927). August Lincoln married Mary Lajoie. August Sr. came from Sweeden ca.1891 at the age of 3. We also have no info on him either. These are my husbands Grandparents. Any hellp would be greatly appreciated.

In researching my GGgrandmother Margaret Benoit b. Sep 1853 in Newfoundland Canada, I have so far run across two possibilities.

Listed under the 1853 Immaculate Conception RC Church (St. Georges Bay) Records, I find a Margaret Benoit d/o Sebastian Benoit and Catherine Japeau. Sponsors are Theotime Godet and Rosalie Benoit.

On Jasen Benwah's GenPage, I find another Margaret Benoit b. 1853 to Sebastine Benoit and Theotiste Jesseau.

Are the names Japeau and Jesseau the same or interchangeable? The similarity is incredible. So is the use of Sebastian/Sebastine as her father's name.

In 1853, the Benoit population is limited, yes?

Anyway, I will take all pointers. My Margaret married a John White (Jean Marc Leblanc, a fisherman from Argyle, Tusket or Wedgeport NS.)in @ 1868-1870. She is found there (Tusket) on the 1881 Census and in 1882 she moved to Haverhill, Ma. They are found on the 1900 Census.

Margaret's sister (per Jasen's webpage) also married a Leblanc.

They (Margaret and Jean) perhaps met in Newfoundland because of fishing? Or could it be a Leblanc connection (nephew etc)? Interestingly enough, her son William marries a NS Comeau.

Incredible genealogy is found in Canada. Thanks for reading.

I'm noting with interest that more folks here have been working on their family tree dating back to Martin Benoist and following a direct line in descendency/ascendency. I too am one of his descendants. Happy to say, this has been a rewarding experience for me also, especially with the guidance of Louis Benoit, whose expertise is always valued among these postings. As a result, I wrote and published "Conversations With Ancestors" a couple years ago. I'm told there are a baker's dozen copies left out of some 300 sold. I spent years traveling to France and Acadia (Nova Scotia), Quebec, etc..tracing my ancestors from each generation dating from Martin from LaRochelle, France, to me, the 10th generation in my direct line. As others are now doing, I will be happy to submit and share on this message board my lineage as well as siblings of my ancestors as a comparison against the findings of those of you doing similar research, i.e. Gary Benoit, Denis Benoit, etc...in the very near future. I'm finding it interesting to see how different Benoit generations branch off from the same ancestory. I am presently writing another family history (not of Benoits) which should be finished in a few weeks. Keep up the good work. It's fun too!

Looking for any information on James and Mary (Benoit) Trainor.

In 1803 James Trainor was born in Ireland and about 1820 married Sally (Trainor), who was born in 1799. Between 1820 and 1833, James and Sally had seven children named Benny Trainor, 13; John Trainor, 12; Kitty Trainor, 9; James Trainor, 6; Patrick Trainor, 4; Alley Trainor, 3; and Thomas Trainor, 2. James, the father, worked as a labourer while Sally was a housekeeper.

On Aug. 24, 1833, the Trainor family including an Edward Trainor (30, labourer) departed Port of Belfast aboard the John & Mary of New Castle. On June 7, 1833 they arrived in St. John, New Brunswick.

The family lived in Canada for nearly 34 years most likely in the St. John, New Brunswick area or Quebec (Montreal). During that span, James Trainor, the child, married Mary Benoit, 39; a French Canadian and had children named Catherine, 22; James, 18; Kate, 15; Emma (age unknown); and Joseph, 5. James and Mary moved to Boston in abt. 1865.

I am looking for my fathers family from around the Evangeline,La. area or Crowley,Kaplan area. My fathers fathers name was Ode'Benoit, and he had two brothers that I know of named Davis Benoit (deceased)from Kaplan, La (i think) and John Benoit possibly from around the Crowley area. My sisters and I have never had the oppurtunity to know my fathers family because our grandparents divorced when my father was ten years old and my grandfather lost touch with my father. We have children now and are very concerned that through marriage they may end up with a cousin. Any information would be wonderful. My fathers name is Kenneth Benoit and his mother's name was Lily Mae Navarre.

I have traced my GG Grandfater back to Biddeford maine where he was working as a steamboat engineer. He married Jane Davis which should have been before 1838 before their first son Francis was born. They then migrated back to Compton Quebec and farmed there.
Jane Davis is listed in the 1861 canada census a being a Freewill Baptist. Does anyone have the book "Marriage and Divorce from Freewill Baptist publications 1819-1851 ISBN 078840136X"? This book is not available in my area but it is available from the Maine Historical Society in Portland. I have left a message there but in the meantime if anyone has it, perhaps they could look up the information for me.

Can anyone tell me if they have any family information for Benoits that trace back to the Cheyenne indians. I grew up being told that my (lets see if I get it right) great,great,great,great,great,great,great grandfather was a Cheyenne chief. this is on my fathers side and I have no info to trace back. I never really knew my father and I have no idea even what his parents names are. Any info would be a big help. It might give me a place to start. Thanks a bunch
