Hi,
I have a picture of my 3rd great grandfather. His name was Harry Bennitt. (Was also spelled -ett or -et). He is very Native American.
He lived in a household of Ephraim Bennitt b. 1 MAY 1762 Warwick R.I. and Hannah Humility Bentley b. 1 MAR 1839 Tioga, Tioga PA.
Birthdate was 7 SEP 1801 (maybe a few yrs earlier of later) in Millport,Chemung, NY
He died 21 MAR 1879 Decatur County, IN buired in Olive Chapel Cem. New Carlisle IN.
Married to Mary McClure. Mary daughter of John McClure b.1767 VA d. 14 MAY 1835 Russell KY and Sally Crosby b. 1 NOV 1771 Fishkill,Dutchess, NY d. 21 AUG 1848

I have found one relative who said the older Bennitt family members knew about the Indian. That information has been lost. But if she found it, why cant it be found again?? He and or his Harry and possibly other siblings were of the Cree and Ojib'we tribes respectively and French Canadian.
Ephraim Bennitt was a soilder. Born in Warwick,Kent Rhode Island died in Dix,Schuyler NY. His wife was Hannah Humility Bentley. Born in Litchfield Connecticut died in Tioga PA.
Would someone please be able to help me? I have thought of many scenario's of adoption or abandenment. He was almost at the end of the children that were born before him.
