M. Benedix Passes

"Melichior Benedix was born in Saxon province, Germany, Jan. 27, 1857, and passed away at his home at Glover June 21, 1941. He had attained the age of 84 years, four months and 25 days.

Mr. Benedix came to the United States in 1881 (actually 1883) and settled in Wisconsin, where he farmed until 1892. He later moved to Austin, Minn., where he was united in marriage to Minnie GRAUL on Nov. 19, 1893. In 1906 he and his family moved to North Dakota, farming in LaMoure and Dickey counties. In the spring of 1940 he moved to Glover, where he resided until his death June 21 at 11p.m.

Funeral services were conducted at Glover Wednesday afternoon at 2:30, Rev. H.J. Gernhardt officiating. Burial was made in the Glover cemetery.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife and ten children: William BENNEDIX; Mrs. John SCHUM (Marie), Portland, Ore.; Mrs. Melvin HAGE (Lucy), Chicago; Ernest BENEDIX, Sparta, Wis,; Mrs. Fred NIMS (Anna) LaMoure; Mrs. Herman MILLER (Rena), Gary, S.D.; Edmund BENEDIX, Oakes; Mrs. Raymond ANDRUS (Freda), Cogswell; Mrs. Emil FROJEN (Bertha), Glover; Fred BENEDIX, Glover, Another son, John, preceded him in death in 1907.

Also surviving are 28 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Two brothers and one sister live in Germany."

Glover, N.D.- Melchior Benedix, retired farmer of this community, died Saturday and funeral services will be today at 2:30 with Rev. Mr. Gernhardt officiating. Burial will be in Glover cemetery. The body is at the Pederson Funeral home in Oakes.

Mr. Benedix was born in Saxon province, Germany in 1857 and came to Dickey county in 1906. He retired from farming in 1935 and had since resided in Glover. He married Miss Minnie Graul, who survives him at Austin, Minn., Nov. 19, 1893. Children born to the couple are Mrs. M.P. Hage, Chicago; Mrs. John Schum, Portland, Ore., Mrs. Anna Nims, LaMoure; Mrs. Rena Miller, Gary, SD., Mrs. Raymond Andrus, Cogswell, ND.; Mrs. Emil Frojen, Glover, William Benedix, Ernest Benedix, Sparta, Wis; Edmund Benedix, Oakes, and Fred Benedix, Glover. Two brothers, FREDERICK and PETER, and a sister, RENA, reside in Germany. Mr. Benedix also leaves 28 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
