In case it's helpful for your research, there was a German language obit. for J. L. Bednarek, but also multiple notices for a Michael Bednarik (1934) and an Anton Bednarik (1925) in the local German papers.

surprised to still get a feedback to your 1999 entry here? Family Research is a long-lasting exercise.

Your grandfather Joseph L. Bednarek, Asst. District Attorney for Milwaukee, died at the age of 63 on September 7, 1948.(1) He was born February 16, 1885 and got buried at Saint Michaels Catholic Cemetery, Beaver Dam, Dodge County, WI (2) His parents were Johann August Bednarek (* 12.08.1841) and Veronica Stanezweski (*June 1841) They were both born in Poznan and got married in Dodge in 1868. This information is taken from the Mormon Database.

I checked these details hoping to find evidence for Joseph and Dennis grandfather Valentine being cousins, but so far there is no evidence for such a relationship.

Valentine and his wife Agnes Gasdecka got married in Milwaukee in 1891. They had seven children, amongst them Frank (Dennis' father)and Pearl (Dennis' aunt). Valentine was the elder brother of my great grandfather Albert.

My Great Grandfather John came to Chicago in 1881. His wife, Ewa Wrazidlo and their first born, Victor, came to South Chicago in 1883. They opened and operated a store at 8808 S Houston on Chicago's southside. I'm interested in tracing the Bednareks in Poland. Ewa Wrazidlo was married to John in Konigshutte, Prussia, today Chorzow, Silesia, Poland. My Grandfather was the couples' third son, Francis (Frank). My grandmother was the Magdalena who married Peter Paul Sarnecki. Her sisters were Rose, Agnes etc. My grandmother lived with me and I asked her about her family. I wrote it all down in 1970. It is on my ancestry.com under the name Magdalana Bednarek Sarnecki. I can also send it to you. She gave me dates and names and spouses.

The Bednarek men you're looking for were brothers, both being my grand uncles. Both men were decendants of Joseph Bednarek (1866-1935), and were part of a family of 11 all from Wyandotte.

I am trying to gather additional information about the Bednarek families that lived in Wayne County, MI in the late 1800's/early 1900's. Specifically, I'm trying to learn more about 2 BEDNAREK men who married two LANGE sisters. Listed below is the information I've gathered so far - I would welcome email correspondence from anyone who can fill in additional details:

Sometime around 1931, Edna Alma Henrietta LANGE (born 23 Jan 1898 in Taylor, Wayne County, MI; died 08 Oct 1982 in Detroit, Wayne County, MI) married Michael BEDNAREK (born 31 Aug 1893, died May 1969).

At some other unknown time, Otillie Antoine LANGE (born 28 Apr 1903; died 20 Jan 1979) married Leo BEDNAREK (born 06 Apr 1901; died Jan 1969).

I look forward to hearing from anyone who can tell me more about these folks.

I am looking for information about the Sowalke, Poland, area. My grandparents, Peter Bednarek and Martha (Rutz) Bednarek were born in Sowalke, Poland, in 1871 and 1885, then were married and came to Minnesota, where they had 12 children (one my father, Frank Bednarek). Same family. I always make the miatake and mention berlin but it is actually in Princeton. My mothers uncle Stan (Stanley Bednarek) just recently "retired" from his farm work. He worked that land since he was born. I have not been there since 1966, but I can confirm the other identities with my mother since I don't know who her aunts and uncles were.

I Know a John Bednarek That was born in around 1870-1880's in Poland (under German rule). I believe from my research he came over on the Leipzig on about 12/1/1872. My Grandma says he couldn't remember being on the ship because he was so small. Once John got to michigan he married Mary and her maiden name was something like Matecke?
They came over on the leipzig then settled in NewYork...then moved to detroit and possible worked at a gm plant? Any information would be appreciated.... ANY

Antonina, the mother of my grand-mother, lefts to USA at 1906, from Poland. Her last address which we remember was in Hillsboro, not far from Millwaukee (300 miles at the west direction).

I'm fairly aware of the Bednarek history in Milwaukee.
There was "my family" who were the decendents
of my Gradfather that composed all but three entries
in the Milwaukee phone book up till the 1970's.

The other three were decendents of Joseph or relatives
of his. The connection between these two lines is
questionable but I do believer there was some. My oldest
aunt Pearl (Bednarek) Labinski used to mention that they
were her cousins.

There may be a connection here but not direcet unless
your grand-mother was a sister to my grand father.

My Grand Father came form Paznan prior to 1900 with several of his
brothers and sisters who located in differernt areas. (My grand father
located in Milwaukee Wisconsin area)

My Grandfathers name was changed to
Valentino at immigrations. Probably should have been
changed to Walter?

My Grandfather was Joseph L. Bednarek. I have been told that his family originated from Poland. He was the Asst. District Attorney for Milwaukee (Wisconsin) during the 1940s until his death. I have recently acquired a book titled "The Poles of Milwaukee 1846-1946".

I was in touch with a Fred Bednarek who was in Poland this summer doing some research on the Bednarek name. I was also told by a friends father who came from the Poznan-Lodz area of Poland that the name Bednarek is not an uncommon one(hard to believe)

Your Great Grandfather's information is quite intresting.
My Father Frank was born in Milwaukee 1905 and
his father went by the name Valentine which was given
to him by the imigration athorities. (simularities
between Walentia and Valentino are intresting) Also
looking at the time span in history with my Father being botn
in 1905 and his father passing away the following year at a "young age"
considering he fathered 9 children. Than we add in the original
georaphicial area where most of my references lead to
Poznan Poland but the other cities were still
mentioned by my mother who visited Poland prior to WW2 and mentioned
meating both my fathers and her relatives there.

I´m searching for Walt Bednarek (don´t know wether it is really spelled that way), who was born in Novemer 1921 and came originally from Gottwaldo, former Zlin in the Czech Republic. I thought it was real interesting that you guys live in Milwaukee. Do you have any idea if there is a connection? I know very little about my father's family because he changed his name for the theatre and moved to NYC. Most of my knowledge of Chicago was through my mother's family who was Italian. However, I do know that my father has cousins in Schectady, NY. We do not know them but he visted as a small boy in the 1920's.

Read your messages with interest, my heritage is from that area..Princeton, which is 10 miles or so from Berlin. Wonder if it is the same family. Parents Lawrence Bednarek(my great grandfather)and Magdelena Mashock Swederski. Birth and deaths unknown. Parented several children, one of which, Adam Jospeh, is my grandfather. He married Frances Komas and had 14 children some of which settled in and around Berlin and Princeton. If this rings a bell I have other info regarding the children of Lawrence and Magdalena.

The 14 children of Adam J and Frances Komasa were prolific. In 1946 there were already 43 grandchildren of Adam J. and Frances. Stan does not ring a bell. There is a summer family reunion usually in Berlin. Have you ever attended?
Reading back through the posted messages it looks like the family came from Krakow. Am I correct?
My father was Adam Jr. Who was Stan's father?

My mother sent me a little more info.

I looked up the papers my cousin sent and there are NO clues where my grandpa was born. Now I have heard a few stories for what their worth....like he may have come from Krackow , then again Danzig was another story..I think that's closer to the North Sea....Anyhow he was born in 1865 and came here as a young man, to escape the revolution.
My grandmother's name was Boguski and her mother was a Danelezyk.
I read the info you sent.........maybe I can get my mother to remember where grandpa was born......she's good at that stuff.
