My Beckwith ancestor is Ruth Beckwith, who married a Joseph Grimes in IL in 1844. She died in Phelphs Co. MO. There is an assumption she was born in NY. Her father was Benjamin Beckwith, wife not know to me, born 16 Apr 1796 in CN and died in IL in 1871. (We saw his grave in the corner of a farmers field some years ago.) His father was Silas Beckwith (although at least on researcher says 'NO') but it appears so in DAR records. His said to have been born in Lyme NC 1746, served in the Revolutionary War in New York State, and died in Crawford Co. IL. I have two wives listed, Anna Smith and Anna Reeves, but not very much confirmation. His father is supposed to be Benjamin Beckwith, botn 1706, mother unknown, his parents listed as Jonah and Rebecca Beckwith. As the King of Siam said, "'tis a puzzlement". Ruth Beckwith and Joseph Grimes are my great great grand parents. Her daughter Minerva and husband James Jefferson McCaw moved to the State of Washington in the late 1800's. Any clues to unravelling the Beckwith mystery would be welcome.
