I am seeking the descendents of Elizabeth O'Connell Beckerman (b abt 1867 NYC) and John Beckerman. The family started out in Manhattan NYC and spread from there to Long Island (Valley Stream?), New Jersey and the Bronx. Thanks for any help that comes my way!

Hi Ken,

That is fantastic information. Thank you very much. I would like to get in touch with Pat Whittaker, if you know how. I have been doing research on my family for 9 years now. I have tons of information that I would be happy to share regarding her mother's family (McGough). Some amazing connections. After living in the Bay Area for years, I moved to Ireland and have the family traced back 9 generations. Currently, I'm living in London.

Catherine McGough Beckerman's father was Patrick. He had five brothers all from Knockreagh, Broomfield, County Monaghan, Ireland. One of his brothers, Micheal McGough lived in Elmira. My g-grandfather was one of his brothers, Owen McGoff as well as another brother James lived in Binghamton. We are baffled as to how we never knew about his brothers living so close just 30 minutes away. I have pictures to share as well.

If you send me your email address I would be delighted to send you some information if you are interested.

I've just checked back on this site. My email is michellemcgoff@yahoo.com

Hope to hear from you.
Michelle McGoff-McCann

Hi Kenneth,

I've just recently started checking the rootsweb boards again after a few years of distraction. I would be delighted with any information you would be willing to share about Catherine and Clarence. This part of our family lived in Elmira, NY and we knew nothing about them until 5 years ago.

I have an incredible amount of detail on my McGough families in Elmira that I would be very happy to pass on to you. If you know anything about your Aunt's family and would be willing to share it, I would be very grateful. Where was your Dad and Clarence originally from?

I hope to hear from you soon after a very long search,
Michelle McGoff-McCann
michellemcgoff@yahoo.com
PS: I currently live in Wimbledon, England however, I was living in the Bay Area, CA prior to the move over here.

Hello Michelle,

I remember Clarence and Catherine very well. They wre my aunt and uncle. My Father, Kenneth, was Clarence's brother. Clarence worked in the penal system in New York state before retiring to Florida. Pat, I remember was a school teacher. They lived for the most part in Elmira, New York. He worked at the Elmira Correctional Institute during those years. Later on he was tranferred to Auburn State Prison where he was deputy Warden until his retirement.

They had one daughter, Pat who the last time I knew lived around Elmira. I don't know her last name but I can ask my brother, I think he would know her name.
I live in northern California (Fairfield) so I haven't been back east that much.

I remember Pat was a very soft spoken kind lady.

Good Luck

My grandfather Samuel Beckerman was from the east coast. As far as I know he lived in NY the majority of his life, and Florida for the last few decades. I don't know if there is a relationship, but I do believe that he came from a large family.

He was, I believe, a carpenter.
He had one sister I know of.
I have been told that the family originally came from Poland. I know of one Beckerman locally (Seminole, FL).
Of his five children, four are left. My father, his oldest, passed away a couple of years ago. Phillip's wife was Sadie (or Sophia Jacobs).
I can be reached @ newyork@ij.net
