For several years I have seen on message boards and in family trees that Moses Bates and Sarah Beck Bates (daughter of Vivian Beck) were residing in AR up to 1890 at which time (or about this time) Moses Bates died in AR. Also Sarah supposedly died at the age of 102 in the 1930's in Texas. I am interested in the sources for Sarah's date of death. Because it would either negate or support my own theory.. being that she divorced Moses about 1892 and then lived to 102, or that this Sarah who died in 1930's may not be the same as my own ancestor and instead she died in the early 1890's... all depending on what the source is, if a death cert. or a tradition or whatever.

From what I can gather Sarah actually died by 1892 in Arkansas or TX.... or she and Moses divorced by 1892. Moses remarried 1892 in Frio county TX, residing in Montgomery county by 1900, moved to Howard county TX by 1910 (his son Will Bates was there before 1910) and was later living in Tulare county CA by 1918, living near his son Will Preston (not Jefferson or Roil) Bates. Will resided with his Half-Brother Archibald Lamb in the late 1890's in Falls county TX, can be found living in Howard county TX in 1900, and by 1910 in Lindsay, Tulare county CA. His niece Minnie Lamb is with him (daughter of Will's half brother Arch Lamb) ... Also this Will lists on his WWI draft card (issued in Cali) his closest relative to be Moses Bates. Will's death cert. was issued in Monterey CA in 1962, mother's maiden name "Bock" or "Beck". I say this because from what I can tell there is a number of "Will Bates" 's who seem to be confused with each other. Moses moved there to Tulare county as well about 1915-18 (Will's draft card, 1920 census)

Will, Arch and the children of Arch knew eachother and were close, this picture attached is from Marlin, TX 1898, Will being the man on the far right. Minnie the daughter in the back, left side, moved to Cali about 1910. We know this from family letters. That we find her living with an uncle named Will Bates from AR all seems to fit.... Minnie (Lamb) Roberts also died in Monterey CA in 1942, parents "Lamb" and "Christman"

Minnie went on to marry William T Roberts. William Roberts and Minnie, along with Will P Bates and Guy Bates can all be found in CA on the 1930 census in Watsonville, Santa Cruz, CA.

*** pictured below is: Minnie Tabitha Lamb, Katie Hale Lamb, Maud E. Lamb... Katie Helen (born 1896, dating this pic to 1898), Arch, Ethyl Belle Lamb, Charles Luther Lamb, Will Bates, and Ruth Beatrice Lamb. probably taken in Marlin or Waco, Waco being the large town in the area and likely to have photographers.
