Hi, everyone. I recently started researching my father's family. His maternal grandmother was Celina Beauvais (also Bovais, Bova. The family was originally from Quebec Province, Canada. She had two brothers, Celem and Napoleon, and two sisters, Cordelia and Mathilde (May). The family moved to Cohoes, NY when she was 6 years old. She married Joseph Bissonnette approximately 1869 and had six children, one was Elizabeth, born in 1880 in Cohoes, NY. Elizabeth married John A. Wills in 1903. She was my paternal grandmother.
Somewhere I read that Beauvais means something like "people who live near small bushes". Would like to hear from other Beauvais (Bova).

My mother's maiden name was Bova. Her father is Richard E. Bova b. 12-4-32? (not sure on year) and he had five other children besides my mother. He grew up in Duke Center, PA. I am interested in any info on the Bova family. His mother's name was Lila Bova nee Hayes (I think) I'm not sure what his father's name was.

I don't know if this helps but there's a Robert Bova that works in the Watervliet Arsenal, Watervliet, NY. I know him because I used to work with him. Also, my great-great-great grandmother was aa Beauvais.

I have a Cordelia Beauvais who married Joseph Belanger in Cohoes. She died 1928 in Cohoes, NY and was born about 1841 in Canada.

Your Cordelia may be a sister to Celina Beauvais
who was my maternal great-grandmother. There
were at least five children born to Adele and
Solime Beauvais. However, I have Celina being
born as 1841 or possibly 1849. Please write back.

In Cordelia's obit from Cohoes American it says funeral was held this morning at the residence of her sister Celina Contant, 11 Main St. Church records indicate at her death in 1928 that she was 87 (1928-87=1841). However, the 1865 and 1870 census indicate her birth at about 1846.

I also have in notes (but no connection yet) of a Rosalie Hebert born in 1883 to Lussier Hebert Delia Beauvais.

I am interested in finding out more about Celina Beauvais' brother Napoleon Beauvais. He was married to Julianne Charters. He had four children, Celina, Napoleon, Julia and Charles. His census, death certificates, obits are conflicting concerning his birthplace (Canada, NY, NE US, etc..) He worked in the mining camps of Colorado, South Dakota and Michigan. He moved to Washington where he died in 1920. He was born circa 1843-45. Any information will be greatly appreciated, since I've been hitting my head on a brick wall for a couple of years on this transient great great grandfather of mine.
