Samuel Wilkinson Bear, Cumberland County, PA

I wonder if anyone else is researching this family?
I am trying to find the parents of Samuel Wilkinson BEAR, in Cumberland County, Penn. Their surname could be spelled Bear, Bar, Bare or Baer, etc. My great great grandfather was Samuel Wilkinson BEAR, born 22 March 1839 in Mechanicsburg (Cumberland Co.), Pennsylvania. On 22 Dec. 1863 he married Frances Marion FREDERICK in Macon County, Illinois. They moved to (Denver vicinity) Colorado and had 4 daughters. They were divorced after about 10 years. (He might have married 2nd, Minerva COX on 11 Sept. 1879, also in Macon Co., Ill.-- but I'm not sure if it's the same Samuel Bear.) Samuel Wilkinson BEAR died in Los Angeles, CA, on 24 Feb 1929.

Family lore says that the immigrant Bear in this line was originally a Hessian soldier from Germany, who was hired to fight in the Revolutionary War, and then stayed and settled in the U.S. when the war was over. There are a lot of Bears, Barrs, Bairs, Baers, etc. in Pennsylvania. If he was related to them I am doubting the family story. :)

This may be helpful. I am related to the Neidig line, but do not have much information how connected. However, while researching my Bear line in Cumberland County, PA, I discovered this Lancaster County will of Benjamin Bear on the "Phorum" at this link:

http://www.pa-roots.org/data/read.php?41,580926,580926#msg-5...

which lists daughter, Mary, husband of John Neidig. I saved the page as a PDF file but this forum will not accept PDF attachments. If you would like the pdf copy i made, email me at address below.

If you have or find additional info about this Bear-Neidig family, please let me know. Hope this helps.

Bill
Sherman William Bear
email: beartrax at mtaonline dot net

I just saw your post as I was looking for a poem that my grandfather had published over 100 years ago. My grandfather was James Milton Bear. My mother was Elsie Louis Bear Widner. My Uncle Dave and Aunt Jo I believe to be the William David and Josephine you seek. There are several errors in the death dates you have listed. If you are still looking for information please email me at tiger_slc@yahoo.com

I believe I am related to the Bear family from Devon. I have gotten all the way back to William Bear born in 1791 in Instow, Devon - I believe he is my 4th great grandfather. His son was also William Bear born 1811 in Bude but died in Northam, Devon in 1887. If you have info on the Bear family earlier than that, I would love to read about it. Thanks.

I'm seeking information on Charlie Bear (aka Charles, C.W. Bear, Beare, Barer) d. 1910, buried in Whitt Cemetery, Parker County, TX. He was married to Jennie Bell Hogland in 1983, in Wise, TX, under the name Charlie Barer. I know about Jennie, but I can't find any info about him prior to the 1900 census. In the 1900 census (Parker, TX), he was listed as C. W. Bear, born 1873 in Illinois, father & mother born in Missouri; but in the 1910 census (also Parker, TX), he is listed as Charlie Bear, born 1875 in Kansas, father born in Pennsylvania, mother born in Missouri. His children were Altie/Alta and Mary (who both listed him as Charles Beare when they died). If you know anything about him, please send me a message at honeysocelot@gmail.com, as I can't afford a membership on this site.
I have Peter Bear about 1805 to before 1850, who is the son of Joseph Bear. There are certainly Bears among German settlers in Pennsylvania, often called Pennsylvania Dutch, and some of them might possibly be Amish. As best I can determine mine started south of there going into Tennessee and possibly English. There are also English Bears.

I have Joseph B. Voght marrying Francis Barr on Sept 6, 1873, in Paris, Ill. He was listed as born in Prussia. Their son, Joseph B. Voght, was born about 1873 in Paris. Francis Barr was a sister to my Barr ancestor, Caroline Matilda Barr. I think the Hobson family comes from the marriage of a daughter of their brother Christopher Columbus Barr, but I really don't have any Hobson information. I have all the info on Joshua Barr and Mary Ann Marion's children but I would really like to know who Joshua's parents were. If you have any info on his siblings or parents, I would like to know that. I can give you whatever I have. Any info on Indian blood by the Barrs?

George Bear and Olive Mae Isbister

My great grandmother was Olive Mae Isbister b.1887 to James Isbister b.1865 d.1910 and Elizabeth Thompson b.1868 d.1964. Olive passed away in 1985.

Out of wedlock she mothered John William MacDonald b. abt. 1903-1907 d. 1968/69 and Fredrick Lyle McDonald b.1910 d.1972. The father of these two boys was John Angus MacDonald. John Angus left with John William who was later sent to live with an uncle when John Angus left to pursue a new life. Fredrick stayed with Olive and never knew his father or of his brother. He did meet his brother once but nothing was ever spoken of their meeting nor did they ever see each other again.

Olive married George Bear b.1877 d.1917 in date unknown. They together had 3 children.
After the death of George Olive then married Collin Hourie b.1897 d.1962.
together they had four children.
So in total Olive mothered 9 children, I am looking for ANY information on the father of the two born out of wedlock, John Angus MacDonald, or any information on John William MacDonald or Fredrick Lyle McDonald. (*note the different spelling of last names, this is due to a mistake on birth certificate.)

Location: Saskatchewan, Canada

My lineage is George Madison and Elizabeth (Vogt) Bear who lived in Hocking, Ohio and ended up in Miller County, MO. I am certain up to that point but am having trouble connecting George to Christian (as suggested by other family members) as his son. Any help anyone can give is appreciated. What is really strange is that I have two separate Lemons connections already.
