Noticed your Biel family came from Uder which is only 2.5 miles from Heiligenstadt which I believe is where my 2nd great grandfather came from. Werner Biel, his wife Theresia (Rust) Biel, along with Daughter Anna and son Andreas immigrated from then Prussia and left Bremen aboard the bark Hermine in 1852. Arrived at New York and settled in Belle Plaine, Iowa about 1854. They had 13 children.Name like many was changed to Beal at some point. Could there be a connection? Thank you
Ross Beal
Fairbanks, Alaska

Her father's name is Jesus Enrique Beal, and his family is from around Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico. Supposedly my wife's grandfather or great grandfather was a European immigrant to Mexico that sold jewelry, but that is just hearsay, but that's all we have to go on.

Any information or leads would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Phil, I do hope we may have a connection.
Mark Dolding was my great great grandfather. He was born 5 Dec 1824 in Woking, Surrey, England. He was a builder/contractor in London building tenement housing. He married Ann Brown (or Ann Holdforth) about 1850 and had a family of 13 children. Jesse, my great grandfather was the youngest but he spoke very little of the rest of his family. Marks death 26 Sept 1889 Greenwich, Greater London, Kent, London

Beal - 3 Marriages in York, ME

I spent some time in the Old York Historical Society Library yesterday. It is possible there is a 'Beal' in my ancestry.

Looking through the book, The Vital Records of York, Maine, I found three 'Beal' Marriages. The first was reviewed most closely - pgs 221 & 222

Mr. Benjamin Norman of New Vineyard, ME and Miss Hannah Beal of York, ME were married on 30 Jan 1825 by Alexander McIntire.

George Beal married Mary Moore in July 1830.

Jane Beal married Samuel Fitzgerald in July 1830.

I believe Hannah (Beal) Norman might have later married Henry Atkinson. If anyone has information about this, I am very interested.

I have a copy of “The Heartland: Ohio, Indiana, Illinois”, by Walter Havighurst, copyright 1962, which I would like to get back in the hands of descendants or family members of some of the people he wrote about. One of the sections in the book is about young Ed Beal, of Alton, IL, who was a carpenter for the railroad, and who, prior to President Lincoln’s funeral train arriving in Springfield, was assigned carpentry work in preparation.
Beal Family Bible - Robert and Margaret Vaughan Beal 1947

I recently came across the wonderful old bible belonging to Byron and Hattie Beal from New York. The front cover of the bible has imprinted "Byron A. and Hattie A. Beal June 21, 1871. There's a nicely handwriten inscription inside and it looks like it was a wedding present. In the family information the following is documented:

Births:

Florence Augusta Beal April 19, 1872
Arthur Washington Beal Febuary 14, 1876
Byron E. Beal Nov 3, 1883
Lester Arnold Beal July 11, 1889

Robert Leonard Beal son of Lester Arnold Beal, Feb. 2, 1917
Margaret Vaughan Beal wife of Robert L. Beal, Born March 19, 1916

Marriages:

Robert L. Beal & Margaret Vaughan Nov 30, 1947

Deaths:

Hattie A. Beal, January 2, 1907

Byron Edward Beal, June 12, 1911 (obituary included)

Florence A. Beal (Willets) January 20, 1952.

I'm interested in helping this Bible find its way home to family. I'll also scan and send information - the handwriting is beautiful!

Sue sug53@earthlink.net

Hello Fellow Genealogists!

I am trying to make a collection of Old BEAL photos (with info, as well, to put the photos in "context") as a useful "reference" tool, for us all.

I am collecting/compiling and indexing, any Old BEAL photos (up thru 1960- but prefer earliest possible) in jpeg/gif format-sent as attachment w/email to me -including as much info known about person(s) IN the photo(s)--such as

name/dates birth/death/marriage; from whom they descend (if known); whom they married, or names of children; what they did for livlihood,etc.,etc.

I will complete this project w/in the next 2 1/2-3months-and anyone who submits an image to me---will receive a compiled photo booklet and access to the BEAL Family photo/info website, when it is completed.

Also jpeg/gif images of documents/text are welcome (as again, this adds "context" to the person in photo's life)--such as scanned b/m/d certificates;
military photos; typed pages of family history; sketches of family tree image; gravesite pix; scanned images of pension/military/citizenship/medical rec-ords; yearbook photos; news clippings;or scans of family bible pages,etc.,etc.
Anything that adds to what is known about the person whose photo you are submitting!

Please make the jpeg/gif no larger than about 7x9 inches, preferably around 5x7-ish--definitely No LARGER than 2MB (not quite 8 1/2 x 11 in. size!!)

I hope to make this a really helpful TOOL for all of us BEAL --(and any related lines you wish to submit--such as those we married-in "with" or of those of surnames that married "into" us!).

Thanks ever so much---Vienna George.....

Email me (w/ text info in body of same email to which is sent as attachment the jpeg (or gif) image) to.....

Vienna_Loves_Genealogy@yahoo.com

Many thanks Cousins!!!---Vienna

NOTE: This is foe ALL LINES (& Spellings-as spelling not "set" til 1900s) of this Surname--due fact we may THINK we are NOT related-but go back further and find we come down from either the SAME patriarch or siblings----or two un-related lines intermarry--and then, of course from there on down they ARE related--and also from all originations as many families started out in one country--only to later be in another-but may be the same family after all!!

Still reviewing my records, but suspect that your George is a brother to my Isaac(b. 1807). A number of Beals moved to the Iowa area including two sons of Isaac, one of whom is named Perry. Information on George is scant in this area and may be attributable to his relocation in Iowa. Definitely interested in sharing data with you.

Thank you for the data, however, I am acutely aware of this publication. This does provide a small glimpse into the various avenues of the second generation Beale siblings. I know very about George specifically. However, I have been to conclude that the listing of children for George and Nancy are in direct correlation to their descendency of birth. Isaac was born in 1807, thus we can conclude that George was born in 1809. If you would like to discuss this in a more structured venue, you can email me direct at:
asberry_tm@yahoo.com
I have engaged in active research of George and Nancy Beale since 1997 and have invested in various sojourns in order to track them down.

Yes, your presumption is correct. However, to date, there is no record of Nancy having lived there. Sources searched on this query were:
1. Census Reports for the area during the entire 1700s.
2. Tax Records for the region
3. Birth Records
4. Death Records
6. Church Records
7. Cemetery Records
The online reference to the Battle of Trenton during December 1776 and "molding bullets" are actually excerpts from a formal genealogy written by Miss Louise Jones in 1901 as a wedding gift to Perry Beal and his wife on their anniversary.
I have a record of a Capt. John Sparks from the area that is presumably Nancy Spark's father, but not definitively. Nancy Sparks Beale's headstone at Birmingham cemetery, Guernsey County, Ohio lists her d.o.b. after 1776.
Nancy Sparks moulded bullets for patriot soldiers during the Battle of Trenton.
Died on her husband's farm in Guernsey County, Ohio at age 72.

I found the above online. His grandfather,
George Beal, was a farmer of Beaver county, Penn., and was married to Miss Nancy Sparks, who
was the daughter of Capt. Sparks, who served in the Revolution. To them were born these
children: William, Sarah, Elizabeth, Rachel, Deborah, Margaret, Elias, John, Isaac, George and
Nancy. William was in the War of 1812 and John served as common pleas judge of Blackford
county, Ind. Mr. Beal was a deacon in the Baptist church, and man of moderate means. He came to
Guernsey county, Ohio, in 1814, and settled near Birmingham, where he remained until his death,
when about eighty years of age. His son, Isaac Beal, and the father of William Beal was born in
Beaver county, Penn., in 1807, and received but a limited education. Some of his brothers were
quite well educated. Isaac was seven years old when he came with his parents to Guernsey county,
and he grew up in the rough school of pioneer days, working on the farm and attending school
when he could find time from his duties. He was married in Guernsey county, Ohio, October 14,
1830, to Miss Jane Neal, who was born June 12, 1812, and who was the daughter of William and
Mary A. (Sheridan) Neal. William Neal was born in Ireland and came to Maryland, where he
married and settled. He afterward emigrated to Ohio and settled in Belmont county, then in
Harrison, and finally in Guernsey county, where he died in his sixty-sixth year. His companion,
Mary A. Sheridan, who was the aunt of Gen. Phillip H. Sheridan and the cousin of Gen. Robert E.
Lee, died March 1, 1874, in her ninety-fourth year. Their family consisted of thirteen children:
Sarah S., Rachel, John, James, Mary A., William, Jane (wife of Isaac Beal), Elizabeth, Thomas,
Lee, Archibald, Asbery S. and Alexander G. Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Beal settled in Guernsey county
after marriage there, their children, sixteen in number, were born: Mary A., Nancy A., Perry,
Sarah, Archibald, Rachel J., William, Elizabeth, Margaret L., Martha S. Thomas, Elias, Bersheba,
Isaac S, George and Lee. Mr. Beal was a man of comfortable circumstances; was the owner of 160
acres of land. He and Mrs. Beal held membership in the Old School Baptist church, and Mr. Beal
was deacon for many years. In politics he was a republican. He had one son, Archibald, in the civil
war. He enlisted in Company K, Eighty-fourth Illinois regiment, and served as sergeant, and was at
the battle of Murfreesboro, Tenn., where he was captured by the confederates, but was retaken
by the Union troops the same day, and died January 5, 1863, from exposure. Isaac Beal lived to be
eighty years of age, and died on his farm in Guernsey county, December 26, 1887. He was one of
the old pioneer settlers and cleared up a great deal of wild land. His widow is still living, and is now
in her eightieth year. Their son, William Beal, owes his nativity to Guernsey county, Ohio, where
his birth occurred November 3, 1841, and he was liberally educated in the common schools. His
father, who had but limited educational advantage himself, was determined to send his children to
school, and young William attended school in the winter and worked on the farm during the
summer months until twenty-two years of age. He selected as his companion in life Miss Sarah A.
Morgan, who was born December 4, 1845, daughter of Washington and Mary (Lake) Morgan, and
their nuptials were celebrated on December 24, 1863. To them were born three children: Spenser
L., Elroy, and Jane E. After marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Beal settled on a farm in Cass township, this
county, and sadly afflicted was Mr. Beal while living there. A disease that was epidemic in the
county entered the family, and Elroy died August 17, 1870; Mrs. Beal died on the 20th of the same
month, Spencer L. on the 22d, and Jane E. on the 27th, all within ten days of each other. On
October 2, 1871, Mr. Beal married Miss Charity E. Butler, who was born December 17, 1844,
daughter of William and Elizabeth (McGee) Butler. [See sketch of Joshua Butler.] William Butler
was born in Brook county, Va., July 20, 1810, and was a school teacher for some time, although a
carpenter by trade. For many years he was a preacher in the Old School Baptist church, and
moderator of the association for quite a number of years. He was married to Miss Elizabeth
McGee, January 4, 1838. She was born August 3, 1815. To them were born three children: Honor,
Henry J., and Charity E. He was a self-educated man, a substantial farmer, and a man who was of
great benefit to his community in its early days. He died June 16, 1885. After marriage Mr. and
Mrs. Beal settled on the farm where they now live, and here all their children were born: Isaac T.,
John W. and Perry L. In politics Mr. Beal is a republican, and has held several of the township
offices. He and Mrs. Beal are members of the Old School Baptist church, in which he was clerk for
several years and is now deacon. He is deeply interested in school matters, and is educating his
sons at Dresden. Mr. Beal is a well-informed man, and keeps thoroughly abreast with the times.
This family is widely known and highly respected in Muskingum county.

Source: Biographical and Historical Memoirs of Muskingum County, Ohio: Chicago, 1892: The
Goodspeed Publishing Co.

Here are my reasons for believing my George 1809 is a brother to Isaac 1807:

Isaac is connected to John: Isaac's bio says he had a brother John who was a judge in Blackford IN; Isaac's bio says Isaac was born in Beaver Co., PA. John's daughter's bio says John was born in Beaver Co., PA. Both John and Isaac owned land in Blackford IN in 1840..I doubt Isaac lived there.

George is connected to John: they were both in Blackford, IN in 1840... George's first child was born in Blackford 1840; both John and George lived in Liberty, Clarke Co. Iowa 1850-1870.. John's wife Ruth was buried in Liberty; John died in Decatur IA.. same town George's son Elias lived in.

Isaac had brothers John and George.
Isaac had a brother Elias; George named his first son Elias.

Isaac lived in Guernsey, Ohio for most of his life; George lived in Guernsey, Ohio in 1850.

All three were born in PA.

Problems with the connection:
Family trees say Isaac's brothers George A. and John were born 1815 and 1818....Indiana/Iowa George and John were born 1809 and 1804, resp. Isaac's mother Nancy was 54 in 1818.. too old to give birth to John. A George A. b 1815 who lived in Ohio said his mother was born in Ireland (1880 census) John's wife Ruth was born 1805.. too young for John b 1818.

In 1880 census George (1809) says his parents were both born PA. In John's daughter's bio, it says John (1804) was the son of a George who was born in England. Isaac Beal(1807) said in the 1880 census that his parents were both born in Maryland!

PS: I think George Beal, 1760, was related to the Beales in Juniata, PA. Some of that family settled in Hanover, Beaver.

In 1927 Mrs. Sam Bretch of 1005 West 18th St., Oklahoma City, Okla., wrote to the Bureau of Pensions regarding this John Sparks and stated that from other information which she had it appeared that John Sparks had married twice and that he had a daughter named Nancy who married George Beal. Minnie Beal Miller of 611 No. Drake Ave., Fullerton, Calif., gave similar information in 1939. According to data compiled by Mrs. Leonard T. Harris, 72 West 14th Place, Chicago Heights, Ill., Nancy Sparks, daughter of John, was born about 1764 and died in Jan. 1854 in Guernsey County, Ohio, at the home of her son, Isaac Seal.
My husband, JOhnny Wilson, is from Cass county, Texas and James Hilmer Beal, son of James Pinkney Beal and Delilah Sisco. James Hilmer is listed as "James G." in a lot of places, but I assure it is James Hilmer. He moved to Marion County, Texas. I have never found parents for James Pinkney Beal, always a dead end. Confused many time with James Peter Pyle as having the same birthday, married on the same day and Delilah Sisco also confused with delia Sanders. My 2-mail is dlw324@comcast.net and we live in Houma, La. Would like to hear from you.
