Your "female line" DNA (mitochondrial DNA) goes back to your mother's mother's mother's mother's mother... not to Samuel Bayes. The children of Samuel Bayes would have the mtDNA of his wife, and only their daughters would pass it on. Samuel Bayes and his siblings would have the mtDNA of their mother. IF your father and mother are cousins of some degree who trace their ancestry back to the parents of Samuel Bayes in a straight paternal and straight maternal line respectively, then your mtDNA would tell you something about Samuel's mother. It's hard to write this out in words -- I need a chart!
