Hello my name is Mary. After reviewing your message on John and Elizabeth Baxter, I looked at a census report that I had copied from Washington DC. It is the South Carolina census for Morgan Township in Charleston, SC and my ggfather was John Baxter and his wife was Eliza. They were listed as a Black family on the census, but their parents were Amos Baxter and Mathilda who were listed as mulatto on the 1860 for Charleston, SC. If this is the family that you are researching, please let me know.
