Dear BAUM Researchers,

I've been watching the postings to the list and am interested in knowing more about the BAUM families in Berks County, Pennsylvania Any help you can offer is most welcome. Here's what little I know about our BAUM connection.

2nd great grandmother Susan Elizabeth BAUM, born 31 May 1847 - died after 19 January 1920, was one of eight children born to John (b. about 1823-d. 16 September 1888). and Maria BAUM (born about 1828-d. ?). Both John and Maria list place of birth as Pennsylvania.

Other children of John and Maria BAUM were:

Margaretta, b. about 1846
Sarah A,, b. May1850
Charles, b. about 1857
Emma, b. about 1861
John A., b. April 1862 d. after 1930; wife was Mary
William, b., about 1863
Letitia, b., about 1867

John and Maria BAUM and family are found in the Pennsylvania, Berks County Census of 1850 in Douglass Twp; in 1860 and 1870 in Leesport, Ontelaunee Twp., and in 1880 in Reading on South 7th Street. Son John A. BAUM is found in 1900, 1920 and 1930 in Reading. He was a barber.

Susan Elizabeth BAUM married Uriah GAMBLER (1842-1920) in Leesport, 28 October 1865. They had one son, John William GAMBLER, born 30 July 1866 and died between 1900 and 1910. Uriah was a minister of the United Brethren Church and served in many of the coal mining counties. Their last known residence was 826 Church St in Lebanon, PA in 1920.
