Martha's sister was Mary Seymour Baulch and her brother William Baulch.

I also have pictures of the newstand and other family photographs that I would be happy to share. I have not started to put it all together but I do have lots of information.

I would love to know what you know and if there is a geneology already in place.

marthafleer@yahoo.com

Eugene and Mollie Baulch Odell - Sumner TN

Eugene and Mollie Odell are listed on the 1920 census as living in Sumner TN with their children, Henry, Hershel, Cora and Eva. On the 1930 census, the family is in the same place but Cora and Eva are missing.

Mollie Odell's maiden name is Mary Jane Baulch.

Eva is now 90 years old and remembers being taken to live with another family (the one she grew up with). The family kept O'Dell as her middle name. I can't find any records of Cora. In 1925, they had another daughter Jessie Alene who lived with them until her death at the age of 34.

Does anyone have information about Cora or why these two girls were apparently sent to live with other families?

Eva and I would appreciate any information.

Thanks.
Beverly

I know of a Richard Baulch (born about 1822) who came to New York in May of 1850 on the ship - Western World - transcripts have mis-spelled his last name as Hulch. He came with his wife Hannah (Chappell), their children (Hannah, Milton, and William), and his brother-in-law Charles Chappell. Looks like they might have had a son named Richard Henry Baulch (born about 1846) who either stayed in England or died before or during the voyage as he is not listed in the 1850 Census of New York.

William Baulch - Devon

Hello all...

I have a William Henry Baulch, born c. 1835, master mariner, d. possibly in 1876. I have no records of his birth and I don't know his parents or where he was born (he lived in Plymouth, Devon, where his wife Eliza Bootyman and all their children were born)

There's one William Baulch (married to a Harriet Baulch), born c. 1800 in Beer, Devon, (occupation: fisherman,) and I'm inclined to think this *could* be William H. Baulch's father, but I have been unable to prove or disprove the connection... Have anyone come across any William Baulch in Devon (specially Plymouth or Beer)? Any info greatly appreciated...

Best regards,

Paul

Hi 'Tony,
Stoke sub Hampden doesn't ring any bells. Most of our lot came from the High Ham, Pitney, Muchelney area, but I don't have a lot of data from all the children on those lines. I will forward this on to two other Baulch connections I work with here in Australia to see if they have any clues.

Regards
Mary

Sorry this is very late reply. Charles Baulch my great great great grandfather had already emigrated to Australia by 1842 he was in the army previously. But he did come from Somerset. So there must have been a lot of Baulches around that area! We have a family tree going back a little way in Somerset but I don't have it with me at the moment.

Tony
I've just started this and I'm tracking an Issac Baulch (b1840 Bath, Somerset) who married Annie Morgan (b1853 Caerleon, Monmouthshire, Wales) in 1875 in Caerleon. Issac was a mariner/boatswain and drowned with his ship in 1888. They had 6 kids - William, Arthur, Charles, Amy, Edith and Alice. They lived in Caerleon (lots of graves in the cemetry there) but I'm drawing blanks on Issac's family/parents etc.

Any info gratefully appreciated.
Jane
Hi Donna ,
I have a Baulch family tree going back to the early 1700`s in Somerset England. However, I am quite sure that the Baulch name origanates in France as you will find some french people today with the surname unchanged. In addition to Baulch you can find Le Baulch. On a family crests page I found out about a French noble called de Mello who was related to a de Baulch. All of my ancestors have been strict Protestants the first born in Australia (1842) was called Moses and I read about a famous Baulch Protestant preacher in the 1700s U.S. The French connection and strong Protestant adherance and the fact that the geographic locale of the Baulch name is 95 percent in Southern England (I guess if you landed in the south of england why would you want to move north anyway?) leads me to suspect that they were originally French Hugenots. Protestants fleeing the Catholic Monarchy of France who may have arrived in the late 1500s or 1600s. However, I stand to be corrected and I would like to possibly travel to England and France to further unravel this mystery.

Dave, I would be very interested to know your gf Richard Baulch's parents names when you find out. I have been collecting info on Australian branch for about 20 years. Tracie Bengtsson Hopcraft, Ruth Cale, Mary O'Neill, Leon Baulch and Judith Griffiths all belong to this Aussie family. After some of the family departed to Australia starting in 1841, other branches seem to have vanished. Some went to Wales. Think I am the person Judith referred to a couple of years ago but I don't have a web page (yet). You can contact me direct kathyb@standard.net.au.
Kathy

Kathy,

My Dad has some records collected by my uncle Albert Baulch(from somerset) when he attempted to trace his own geneology. I dont think they go back that far though as the family he contacted were not co-operative! I am only back to my Grand father Richard Baulch who lived in London and died in the 1960's. His fathers first name is not established yet, but my dad told me that he was paid off to leave Somerset by the Baulch family!
Dave

Dave,
Yes, indeed - this Charles Baulch was baptised at Muchelney, Somerset 29 Dec 1805, son of Charles Baulch (a butcher) and his wife Anne nee Beddlecombe/Biddlecumb. The family later moved to nearby Pitney, Somerset. Charles jnr, together with his brothers Francis and Enoch plus their wives and various children, emigrated to Van Diemans Land and descendants of a fourth brother, Henry, came out later. I am descended from Francis Baulch.
Kathy

I dont know what his crimes were but he is a black sheep of our family! When my uncle Albert (died 2000) tried to contact relatives in Somerset in the past they were not keen to talk to him, perhaps because of the past problems??

DAve

Hi, I have just found my Great great grandmother. Her name was Elizabeth Baulch, born 3 March, 1833, Pitney, Somerset. She emigrated to Australia, and married John Beasley who was sent to Australia as a convict. Together they had 14 children. Let me know if this is of interest to you. Tracie

Leon, your great great grandfather, Charles Baulch, didn't have a middle name. He arrived in Van Dieman's Land (Tasmania) in March 1841 aboard the "Arab" as a bounty migrant with other members of the Baulch family. I don't know where he resided in the Cressy area and would be interested if you learn any more about his life.

Kathy, I have transcribed a list of all bounty arrivals in 1842 and matched these to the arrrival of ships, finding there was a perfect match of details. Francis and Enoch Baulch both went to work for Thomas Fletcher at Lake River. They were first class farm labourers on wages of 14 pounds + rations for the first year, 25 pounds for the second and thirty for the third. Thomas Perham also went to work for Fletcher and two of the group are listed as uneducated and one educated. I assume that the two Baulches were the uneducated pair. There character was described as very good.Charles went to work for John Sinclair at Evandale. He was also a first class farm labourer and was employed at the same rate as his brothers. He is listed as not educated and his character very good. Perhaps you could contact me so that we can swap details and I can arrange to post you some things. My email is david.boon@education.tas.gov.au.
David

David,
Yes, please. Thrilled to hear from you. I have copy of entire Arab passenger list from Archives of Tasmania and was aware your ancestors were on board as I believe you published a book about them? Also I have copy of diary written by William Johnstone on board same voyage Nov 1841-March 1842. I do not have details of who they went to work for, what their wages were etc. Very interested to learn more. A very welcome Christmas present. Thank you.
Kathy
