Jim, I was directed to the photos of Joseph
Sire and Ann Eliz
Batts Gardner on the AncientFaces website which brought me back to Ancestry.com for an email link to you. I feel VERY strongly that my
Gardner line is connected to your
Wilson County Gardners. Originally these Gardners were in
Edgecombe County and then became part of
Wilson Co when it was established. I saw that your
Gardner relative, Joseph, was from
Wilson County and married a
Batts woman. You probably know there is more than one marriage between a
Gardner and a
Batts. My
Gardner ancestry goes back to Edwin
Gardner b
Abt 1797. He is in
Edgecombe Co marriage records for his last 2 marriages. Simeon/Simon
Gardner was a witness for one (
Simeon and his family are found later in
Wilson Co census records) and Edwin was a witness for the marriage between William
Gardner and Eliza
Batts in 1828. He married #1 Priscilla
Cobb (no marriage record found), #2 Matilda
Darden #3 Clarenda
Edmonds. Edwin sold property and left NC in the early 1830s, stopping in
Alabama for a few years, then on to
Louisiana. Edwin had a brother named James B. Gardner and two of their children (first cousins?) married; they are my g-grandparents (Joseph N. and Priscilla Susan
Gardner). James B and his line migrated to
Georgia around 1840s. To avoid making this email any longer, I am very interested in the info you have on the Gardners of
Wilson (
Edgecombe Countyy. I know there is a connection, but that far back it has been hard to identify the connections with certainty. Feel free to contact me at "
pat6@flash.net" - and thanks for any help you can provide. Pat
