Jim
There is a well researched family lineage for both
the Gardners and Batts lines that you are looking
for. The Wilson (NC) County Gen. Society has this
information and it is posted at several sites on the
internet.

If you can't locate it at ancestry.com or don't have
access let me know and I'll send you the files that
I have.

My g.mother was a direct link in what you are
looking for. Her maiden name was Minnie Malise
Gardner, her father was Josiah SIre Gardner with
the line stright to William and his first wife. My
g.mothers mother was Anne Eliza Batts.

let me know if I can help.

Jim,
I would love anything you might have on a Mary Elizabeth Batts born about 1835 in Virginia. OR, where you found the Batts site on the net.
Thanks,
Jim

Jim, I was directed to the photos of Joseph Sire and Ann Eliz Batts Gardner on the AncientFaces website which brought me back to Ancestry.com for an email link to you. I feel VERY strongly that my Gardner line is connected to your Wilson County Gardners. Originally these Gardners were in Edgecombe County and then became part of Wilson Co when it was established. I saw that your Gardner relative, Joseph, was from Wilson County and married a Batts woman. You probably know there is more than one marriage between a Gardner and a Batts. My Gardner ancestry goes back to Edwin Gardner b Abt 1797. He is in Edgecombe Co marriage records for his last 2 marriages. Simeon/Simon Gardner was a witness for one (Simeon and his family are found later in Wilson Co census records) and Edwin was a witness for the marriage between William Gardner and Eliza Batts in 1828. He married #1 Priscilla Cobb (no marriage record found), #2 Matilda Darden #3 Clarenda Edmonds. Edwin sold property and left NC in the early 1830s, stopping in Alabama for a few years, then on to Louisiana. Edwin had a brother named James B. Gardner and two of their children (first cousins?) married; they are my g-grandparents (Joseph N. and Priscilla Susan Gardner). James B and his line migrated to Georgia around 1840s. To avoid making this email any longer, I am very interested in the info you have on the Gardners of Wilson (Edgecombe Countyy. I know there is a connection, but that far back it has been hard to identify the connections with certainty. Feel free to contact me at "pat6@flash.net" - and thanks for any help you can provide. Pat Gardner

I am a descendant of Jeremiah Batts and Elizabeth Williams of Edgecombe County, North Carolina. They later moved to Tennessee. For more information see the Batts page on my website at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~irishgirl/...

Ava Gardner was a descendant of Jeremiah's brother Bailey Batts, Bailey's daughter Cynthia married William Gardner. I do not know any more about her Gardner ancestry, but here is a chart showing the Batts connection:

I'm familiar with the Ava Gardner connection; when my dad was alive, he told me that there was a family connection. A genealogical account I read about William Gardner (as an ancestor of Ava Gardner) identified Edwin Gardner as the witness to William's marriage and the author presumed that Edwin was William's brother - however, I haven't found evidence substantiating that relationship with certainty. If not a brother, it is highly likely there is a close family connection. Thanks for the info and links.
