Looking for the first husband of Mable Stevenson who married 1st a Mister Battin in Kansas probably before 1915. He was dead by 1920 as Mable is listed in the 1920 census living with her family. In 1910 Mable is in Waubansee Co. in 1915, Mable's family, but not she, is in Jefferson Co. and she re-marries by 1924 to a Thomas H. Bruce and moved to Newcastle, WY. Any info would be appreciated...Thanks.

If you're still checking this post, My Grandfather was born in Carl Junction, Mo. He was named after the town, Carl J. Battin. He had one son Carl Jr. and 6 daughters.

Hi Cheryl, I am looking for information on Lola Battin. The information I have received from family says she has sons named Bill(William), Roscoe, and Lowell. Was Lola married to Curt Bradley and then a Ross Williams? I'm trying to make a connection from Lowell Alva Bradley known as "Curly" to Lola Battin and her husband. Oh, ok. I am surprised she did not believe it. We have all discussed our "half sister" that is out there somewhere! I actually found out 30 years ago, when I went to the hall of records to get a copy of my birth certificate for my very 1st. drivers license. Our brother knew at the time of Dawn Maries birth. I know that someone was saying my father remarried, Jennifer replied with a "I don't think so", we know that never happened. I think she was just very surprised that you actually found this girl. Thanks for your help, it is appreciated. Jennifer was VERY happy to finally speak with Dawn Marie.

I was corresponding with Jennnifer on your branch of the Battin family. She listed her siblings and I asked about Dawn Marie as I had found her in birth records. Jennifer said she'd checked with your dad and he said he didn't know her. I have more BattXn data than anyyone and have some across is connected famimlies before.

I have been told we have Indian blood in our family, the Robert Wood Battin Family???? Where does this come from? Also what happened to Oscar Battin??? One of Robert wood Battins Sons?? Were we Battins Quakers at one time??? Can anyone help clear all this up.

Sorry, I don't have any info on Oscars Children. I do have a photo of him and dad never said to much about him . I think he did change his birth date for the draf t . I have been told he lived in Yuma, Colo. and a Step son may have been involved in his disappearance.

Peter Battin born Dec. 27, 1824 Union Co. IN, son of Richard Battin and Charity Ann Cook. He served in the 32nd Iowa Infantry, Co. D. He was killed in battle at the battle of Pleasant Hill, LA Apr. 27, 1864. If this is your line, I have some question about his family.

He married as second husband Mrs. Anna M. L. Miller but I haven't been able to find a marriage record. It's not in Chester Co. She had a son by her first marriage Harry C. Miller who is with Archie and Anna in 1930. Anna was born 1880 in Germany. Harry was born in 1902. He married and had Florence and Anna.

The Battins weren't from Wales but from the Ardington area of Berkshire. There is plenty of Welch in the family though. I started poking into the family when I was 13 at the request of my beloved bachelor uncle. I got the Hammer material from a distant cousin. It's a few mimeographed pages which had some notable errors aong with a great deal of useful material. She got Joseph's family all wrong (wrong wife and kids) and omitted my grandmother (Greta Madelein Battin Baker) which irritated me. That's why I decided to concentrate on the Battins.

Not in Phoenix but in Fountain Hills, north of Scottsdale. About an hour's drive. Richard and Ann had: John; Mary Ann; Joseph Cook; Jonathan who died young; Enos who died young; Jesse; Harbert; Peter.
John (my ancestor) moved to Scott Co. MN. Harbert joined him for a time then moved to Boone Co. IA. There's a Battin Chapel there named for him. They insist his name was Herbert but he was named for the Harberts, a well-known Quaker family and his mother's mother's family. Joseph Cook went to Mahaska Co. IA, did something that got him kicked out of the county (possibly something about alcohol) and left for CA. Peter lived in Mahaska Co. until this happened and then moved to Boone Co. Jesse settled in Marshall Co. IA. I've been to these counties.
Mildred Jeanette married John C. Moore Dec. 22, 1880 in Boone Co. She was his first wife. The second was Sophia C. born 1872 IL (Mrs. Turnell) widow of Peter Turnell. John C. Moore was born 1867 in Tazewell Co.IL, son of John J. Moore and Nancy Jane Johnson. I have a little more on Grandchildren.

I'm in Arizona now but I'm native to Minnesota. Peter and Louisa had Francis Marion; Elizabeth Ann; Maria L.; Amanda Jane; Mary E.; Harriet R.;and Mildred Jeanette. Louisa married second John Slater. Are you familiar with Sarah Leota Hammer's work on the Battins?

The family of Richard and Ann is in the Quaker records. Their oldest son John is my great-great grandfather. I have over fifty years of research on the Battins both to the present and back to Ardington, Berkshire.

William - I married into the Battin clan and I think you and my father-in-law are cousins. I have a TON of information on the Battin Family. Before I inundate you with data, let's see if it's you...
William E. Battin - son of Meldon Edgar Battin (b) 2 Aug 1891 Hays, Ellis, KS (d) Jun 1962 Cannon City, Fremont CO. Married to Elizabeth Adams (b) 1892. Meldon and Elizabeth had 4 children; Elsie, Betty, William E, and Harold Arthur.

Meldon Edgar is the son of Robert Wood Battin and Eliza Jane Hall.
Robert Wood Battin is the son of Jesse Battin and Mary Ann Rosenberger.
Jesse Battin was the fifth child of 11 children born to Samuel Battin and Sarah Rigg.
Samuel's parents were Richard Battin and Elizabeth James. Samuel was 7th of 12 children.
Sarah Rigg's parents were Clement Riggs and Sarah (?). Sarah was 14th of 14 children.
Richard Battin's parents were John Battin and Elizabeth Deacon. Richard was 5th of 7 children. Richard's brother, John born 2 Aug 1720 in Chester PA is my father-in-law's 5th great-grandfather.

I have TONS more with specifics.

Is this you? If so....let me know. I'm happy to share all of the historical data I have. If this isn't you, maybe you could provide me with a little more of the specifics about your parents/grandparents and I'd be happy to help. I have a few tricks I've learned about the Battins in the last little while that I've been working on them.

I think you are remembering this wrong. I have always known about Dawn and got on this site many years to find her. I heard from family, not you. My brother saw her at birth. I am now looking for another sister. All I know is her name is Kimiko (sp?), born in Japan while my father Noel Jason Battin was stationed there. He was in the navy from 52-55?. He had a daughter while he was there. Thanks. Kimiko, I hope you see this some day.

Your Oscar was born Dec. 5, 1886. As the draft was for WWI, I don't see why he had to change his birthdate. I have only one Oscar Battin (Oscar William) who registered for the draft and he gave a birthdate of Aug 27, 1881 when he registered in Mineral Co. CO. I also have an Oscar Battin who married Bonnie Bell Montgomery. She was born Dec. 1, 1916. They had three children. dose any of this sound famimliar?

I am looking for ancestors of Peter Battin. He was born in 1824 in Indiana. He was married to Louisa Enfield. He died in the Civil War in 1846. I have been unable to determine who his parents were although I am suspicious that they were Richard Battin and Ann Cook. He lived in Boone Iowa also for a period of time. No, I have never heard of Sarah Leota Hammer. I just started doing this research a few months ago. You must be some sort of cousin to me. Janettie was married to John C Moore who was born in Illinois. He is my great grandfather. I have been unable to dermine any of his ancestors. John and Janettie's son was Theodore Francis Moore. He had Owen(lives in Ca), Dorothy(lives in Phoenix),Phyllis(my mother who just recently died), Max(CA),Larry(Ca). This is very amazing. Do you live in Phoenix? How can I get ahold of Sarah Leota's work? I had figured out that Louisa married John Slater from the census's.

Batten / Battin in Sussex UK

Have traced my direct line of Batten back to the Chichester area of Sussex. (Although they are staring to appear as Battin). There does not appear to be very many Batten/Battin familys in the area at the time, so most are probably related. Is there anybody else looking at Batten / Battin in the Sussex area? You're Harold's brother. One of his sons got in touch with me years ago about finding Harold's family. I believe I talked to someone your family about it before I provided a phone number. You asked what happened to Oscar. I have two possibilities. An Oscar William Battin registered for the WWI draft in Mineral Co. CO. He gave his birthdate as Aug. 27, 1881.
