John H. Bassford, 88, passed away October 22, 2010.
He was born November 15, 1921 in Wellsburg, W.Va. to Ray and Agnes Bassford.
He served in the U.S. Navy and retired from Goodyear Aerospace after 44 years of service.
He was an avid mall walker and very proud of the fact that he could walk four miles in less than an hour. He was an avid outdoorsman and was a member of the Game Reserve Association Inc. John was an active and founding member of St. Francis de Sales Church where he faithfully served as an usher for many years.
John was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Pearl. He is survived by his son, John (Tamara) Bassford of Dayton, Ohio; daughter, Lona (Ray) Hanley; grandchildren, Kyle (Mikala) Bassford, Dr. Mark (Jennifer) Hanley, and Robert (Cheryl) Hanley; great-grandchildren, Madeline, Ella, and Mia.
Friends may call at Bacher Funeral Home, 3326 Manchester Rd. on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 from 5 to 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, October 27 at St. Francis de Sales Church, 4019 Manchester Rd. at 10 a.m. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
