I recently started my family tree. Joseph Bartnik is my grandfather. His daughter, Dorothy, married Eugene Wilcox 26 Nov 1940. Eleven days later he was drafted. After WW II, they briefly lived on a farm and then bought the house at 734 Burke Avenue, Grand Rapids, that Joseph built, for $2.500, and the proviso that Eugene would build him and apartment in the attic and also build an indoor bathroom. My dad did these things and he lived with us until his death. He sat on the porch and told all the neighbors that his son-in-law was ruining his house all the time my dad was building these changes!
