There are no known ancestors of Joseph of
Newton (originally "
Cambridge Village" and part of the town of
Cambridge) that I have seen. It appears that people have plugged in Robert as his father to create a Mayflower line. Hannah was born in Sherborn. Joseph very likely married, moved to Sherborn, they had
Hannah there, then moved back to
Newton. Joseph and
Hannah, with children, then moved to
Brookfield, where
Hannah, Thomas and Benjamin at least were married, then back again to
Newton. Their son Joseph was probably the one who married in
Newton in 1730, all this from the vital records for those towns. Joseph, Sr. (by then he was the senior Joseph of the family) is in the
Newton vital records, died "June 21, 1750, a. 79." That puts his birth in 1670/1671, but he surely is the Joseph, son of Joseph and Mary, born a twin in
Cambridge (when
Cambridge included
Newton) Mar. 5, 1673. Hannah died in 1730 in
Newton, and Joseph then married
Mercy Hyde in 1732.
I haven't done research on this family specifically, but I just browsed some databases I have access to. I have an interest in other
Bartlett families, though, so this thread caught my curiosity. If you want access to the vital records I mentioned you can subscribe to the New
England Historic Genealogical Society's website, and that will help you get to some good primary records. The internet can be so unreliable, otherwise.
