Hey Daniel!

I descend from Lewis, Sr. and Sarah Barrs of the Williamson Mill Twnshp of Lexington County, SC. I can't trace back past Lewis. Do you have more info on his ancestors? I see above you mention some?

Can you e-mail me at morgan.gotro@gmail.com

Thanks!

-Morgan

Does anyone have research past Lewis, Sr. and Sarah Barrs of the Williamson Mill Twnshp of Lexington County, SC? Could Lewis, Sr. be descended from the James Barrs who was sent to the colonies for stealing sheep in England? Anyone with information please e-mail me at morgan.gotro@gmail.com

Thanks!

-Morgan

I don't know if the information I am sending you will help but it might. It would certainly be worth checking into.

My name is Margaret Anne Harlan (Moore) and Ida Barrs Able was my grandmother. Eston Brooks Barrs, her father, was my great grandfather. One of the Barrs family members related to me sent me an email with some incredible information on the Barrs family history that I feel may be helpful to you. This man has an incredible website about the history of everything related to the Barrs family. His email address is: albarrs@wfeca.net.
The website address link is: http://albarrs.wix.com/usandfamilyhistory
Included in his email to me was the following message. This guy has EVERYTHING you can imagine regarding the Barrs family on his website above. Hope you will find this helpful.

Regards,
Maggie Moore

Good morning Maggie;

Yes, so far as I can determine my North Carolina Barrs family is related to the South Carolina Barrs family. Both came from Warwickshire England. However, we have been unable to definitively connect the two line directly with Christian names, but I do know there was a Barrs relative, a John Barrs, a farmer, who lived in SC in the 1800s, came to visit his "cousin" James C. Barrs, my GG Grandfather at Barrsville, Columbia County, FL in 1872, I believe it was, and was shot along with GG Jim Barrs in James C. Barrs' General Store. GG Jim lived but John Barrs died a couple days later. It's all in my Barrs e-books and e-articles on my Website. You are welcome to have a look at http://albarrs.wix.com/usandfamilyhistory

Get back to me if you have further questions that you can't find answers for in my Website...

Enjoy,

Al Barrs
albarrs@wfeca.net.

I hope this message reaches you because I notice it was posted in 2009, so here it is 6 years later. It is interesting that Eston was born exactly 100 years earlier to the exact birth date of my son, Brad, born October 14, 1968.

My grandmother was Ida Sarah Barrs who was married to William D. Able. Ida's father was Eston Brooks Barrs. My mother was Dorothy, daughter of Ida, thus making Ida my grandmother.How are you related to Eston Brooks Barrs?

I know that Ida had many children. I believe she must have had an unhappy life because I do not remember Ida as a happy person and she wasn't very forthcoming about her life. All I have found out about her has come as a result of Ancestry.com. If it wasn't for Ancestry.com, I would have little to no information about her. It is interesting how even my own mother always said her maiden name was AbleS.

I had the Ancestry.com DNA done for my whole family, including grandchildren, my children's husband and wife, as a Christmas present. They have all enjoyed immensely the information they have gained about their genetic history and people they have come in contact with as a result of the DNA test.

I hope I will hear from you and you can fill me in on where you are in the grand picture.

Maggie Moore (a.k.a.
Hi Al,
My name is Barry Sharpe, my Grandmother was Ruth Nadine Sharpe (Barrs) from Bamberg SC. Her mother Lula Barrs (Carter) was married to Robert W. Barrs. I think he was from around the Colleton Co. area, but can't find much to substantiate that info. They had another daughter (Josephine) but cannot find any additional information other that what was listed in census. I just started researching my family history and finding out info on Barrs or Carters from Bamberg has been like pulling teeth. Any info or leads would be greatly appreciated.
Respectfully
Barry Sharpe e-mail okiebear24@yahoo.com
Good afternoon Meloneyrose;

Sorry, but I don't have anything on the Barre family except that the spelling was originally Old Normandy beginning around 900 AD as de La Barre. In France it was spelled as Des Barres and even later in England it was recorded as Barres as well as Barrs. Caution though, many believe the surname Barr is also of our lineage, but it is not. Barr is a Scottish surname and the Scots and English were sworn and deadly enemies, so there was no intermixing until late in the past century...but Barr is not a western European version of our Barre, Barres and Barrs lineage. There are other spellings but most were misspelled by church scribes such as our earliest known ancestor in England which was spelled a Thomas Bares, but the executor of his Last Will and Testament was his son, Robert Barrs.

I have found only three shires in England that had considerable Barres or Barrs from the Medieval period of the 1400 and 1500s and those regions are Lancashire, Leicestershire and next door Warwickshire. I have traced my Barrs family back to Warwickshire in the late 1400s or early 1500s.

Sorry I could not be of further help.

Al Barrs
I have been trying to find any information for my Grandmother's mother Anne-Liese Barre. The only two things that I found about her was her record coming to America and she was 19 years old, and then she was on my Great Grandfather's naturalization papers.
Anne-Liese took my grandmother Marian Neu to Germany to visit relatives and then the war broke out and my grandmother was stuck in Germany until she was 16. However Anne-Liese died in Germany while my grandmother was still very young. Anne-Liese's parents names were Wilhelm J Barre and Luise Drewes. I also know that Anne-Liese had a sister but I do not know her name. I am hoping someone can help me find any more information about the Barre family. They lived in Lehe, Germany, and Bremerhaven. Again in anyone could help me with any information about them it will be greatly appreciated.

Later it was spelled des Barres in France. In early Britain it was first spelled Barres, Bares, and eventually Barrs. My unbroken DNA lineage goes back from western Europe (Old Normandy) through Europe into Siberia, south through the Himalayan Mountain region and west into the Mesopotamian region (Cradle of Civilization) into the fertile crescent and Middle East and ends just west of the Horn of Africa…some 60,000 years ago…Al Barrs albarrs@wfeca.net

Family Group
Name: UNKNOWN BARRS
Sex: Male
Birth: Perhaps in England, maybe Leicestershire or Warwickshire
Note: There was a large Barrs family in Market Bosworth Leicestershire whose earliest name was Michael Barrs born about 1540 in Leicestershire. It is possible that the Market Bosworth Village and Bulkington Village Warwickshire Barrs families were related since the distance between the two villages is only about 16 miles. We have not yet been able to validate that these two Barrs families were connected and related. JOHN had inherited his father's, JOHN BARRS OF TOFT'S, property. It appears that JOHN decided to leave England for more suitable farming conditions and land in America shortly after his father's death in 1746. It also appears he traveled from TOFT HAMLET in the early spring of 1749 to BIRMINGHAM where he married SARAH SPEARS on FEBRUARY 19, 1749. We believe they then traveled directly to LIVERPOOL ENGLAND where they boarded a ship bound for perhaps WILLIAMSBURG NORTH CAROLINA.
D. L. I have also found the history of James Barrs who was transported to America for 14 years for stealing sheet. He was from Warwickshre, the same shire that my ancestors came from and still live. James Barrs was shipped to Charles Town, SC in several years before my first ancestor John Barrs born 1727 in Warwickshire arrived in North Carolina from Toft Hamlet Warwickshire in 1750. I have always believed that your James and my John were related in England. I also know that James Barrs and his son William were pressed into service by the Crown during the Revolutionary War and Continental partisans finally killed him. His wife Susan received his last pay voucher.

Please contact me at e-mail albarrs@wfeca.net so we can exchange information...
Re: Frank Davis Barr???

The Barr surname is Scottish and has no connection to the Barrs surname. The Barrs surname arose in Old Normandy about 800 AD as Barre, was later translated into Barres in France and was used interchangeably in Great Britain as Barres until English became the official language of Great Britain at which time it became Barrs. The British and Scottish people were sworn enemies and therefore did not associate with each other. Englishmen would kill Scottish men on sight so we don't think there was any DNA exchange until very much later. Today there is a mix of Barr and Barrs in Scotland, England and the U.S.A. but the surnames are not itterations of each other. Our mailing address is still the same Greenwood, FL address. I hope you had a good holiday. I even contacted Grace Barrs in Georgia asking if she had any news about you but didn't get anything satisfactory.

I just this morning thought of a way you may be able to determine the surname of the wife of the William Barrs you are searching for. Try checking the Federal Census Reports for a family in the County and State where William Barrs and his wife and family lived. See if you can find a family with the surname "Aleric" or something very close... Good Luck!

PLEASE CONTACT ME AT E-MAIL ADDRESS albarrs@wfeca.net

We have many "William" Barrs in our family lineage. I have a GG Uncle William W. Barrs born in 1824 whose father was born in 1792 in Lenoir Co, NC to John Barrs, Jr. I don't have any information on the wife of your William Barrs. Do you have additional information on your William Barrs? That is the best place to start searching. You posted Johnson County and a birth date of 1869. By 1869 my Barrs family was in Lenoir County which divided from Johnson County into Dobbs and then Lenoir. Here is the division dates for that region of NC. My Barrs ancestors came to America in 1750, settled in Johnson County, NC. More than likely your William Barrs is related to my NC Barrs family, I have just not done a lot of research on more than my direct line.

NOTE: North Carolina County Formation Time-Line
1. Bath County formed 1696
2. Craven County formed 1712
3. Johnson County formed 1746
4. Dobbs County formed 1758
5. Lenoir County formed 1791 to today

I will freely share and help with your search for Barrs and related ancestors...

Al Barrs
Barrs Family History
albarrs@wfeca.net
Mcwillcole;

I believe Arthur Stephen Barrs was related to Tony Barrs of Murthly Scotland. "Tony" or Anthony Marston Barrs was born and raised in Nuneaton. Most if not all of the Barrs there are related to Tony and I’s Barrs family.

Send me an e-message with your question at albarrs@wfeca.net and I will contact Tony Barrs about the information and ask him to contact you by e-mail. Also, send me your e-mail address so that I can forward your request to Tony.

Tony Barrs’ father was Arthur Barrs also of Nuneaton.

Our Barrs family centered primarily in Warwickshire, namely Bulkington, Thurlaston, Toft Hamlet and Dunchurch among other villages and hamlets in the Midlands.

Regards,
Al Barrs
albarrs@wfeca.net
Greenwood, Florida USA
Hello;

I don't have a lot of information on the South Carolina Barrs. About all that I know is that my North Carolina Barrs are related to the South Carolina Barrs because that came out at the 1887 when John Barrs of South Carolina was shot by two Carroll brothers at the store of my GG Grandfather James C. Barrs in Barrsville, Columbia County, FL. This John was referred to as visiting his cousin Jim Barrs at Barrsville when the shooting occurred. John Barrs owned a farm in Barnwell South Carolina and one of his Barrs descendants still owns the land. He lives in Texas now. I suspect one of John Barrs, Jr. of Lenoir County, NC setled in the Barnwell SC area after leaving home following the death of GGGG Grandfather John Barrs, Jr. in Lenoie County NC. William Barrs of Savannah and Lowrence Barrs have done most of the South Carolina Barrs family history research. I suggest you contact them directly. William Barrs e-mail newkm38@hotmail.com and Lawrence Barrs e-mail DLBARRS@aol.com. Please let me know what you learn Al Barrs e-mail albarrs@wfeca.net

I am sorry, but I don't have anything on Gary Lee. I wish I could help, but there just doesn't seem to be any information on him. I have a little bit written down somewhere that Robert's dad told me, I'll look for it. Your dad told me that he had a picture of him. I would like to see that.

Take Care,
Karen
Family of Eston Brooks Barrs

I am trying to find relatives (descendents) of Eston Brooks Barrs, who moved to Alabama (Covington County?) from Georgia. Family records show he was born 14 Oct 1868 and was married to Oberson or Ida A. They had children- Mattie, Jessie, Charles, Earnest, and possibly, Mollie. Eston's parents were Lewis Barrs & Barbary Elvina Williams. Eston's siblings who remained in Georgia were Henry Anderson,Josiah Malachi,Sarah Catherine,James Hiram,Elizar Allis, Jacob Ransom Perly, and Curtis Aaron Barrs. If any of this rings a bell, please reply. Thanks, Connie Barrs

I am looking for info on the wife of William Barrs...I have Jone Aleric, but it was hard to read, so i am not sure if that is correct or not. If it is, i have found no info on her at all. They had a daughter named Julia Coralina(Caroline)(Carolina) Barrs who was married to John Overman, a blacksmith from around Nahunta, Wayne County, North Carolina. Thank you very much for any help.

I started doing research on the William D Barrs branch and found records for sons Frank D Barr and Jay Grant Barr assuming the record showing Barr was just a mistype but every single record for Frank Davis is Barr not Barrs..Anyone have any knowledge on this branch? I do not want to be adding the wrong family members if they truly are Barr and not Barrs!

Hello Al,

My name is Gary Colley, living in Western Australia and am the son of Marion Edna Colley nee Barrs who lives in Birmingham, England.

Charles James Barrs, born 1889 and died in 1930, was married to my maternal grandmother May Potter. Charles James Barrs is something of an enigma to my family and I’ve been trying to find out more. My mum told me he was a ventriloquist. This sounds like too much of a coincidence not to be him. I’ve found out he was a compositor, his father was Charles and mother Martha, but little else.

If this sounds like the same person to you, I’d be grateful if you could send the photo. You also said that you had a picture of his son in Iraq. My mum’s siblings were Leslie, Irene, Olive, Gordon and Hilda. Only my mum and Gordon are still alive. I think Les was in the army.

Regards,

Gary
gsbr@aapt.net.au

Good morning Gary;

Thanks for contacting me about Charles James Barrs.

I do have a picture of him with his puppet believed to be during the first world war. I also found a relative in southern England and have pictures of his son in Iraq. I will gather all that I have and send it along to you. We also have an A. Barrs who is a part time ventriloquist in Australia and his brother Paul Barrs who has an online business in Australia.

My family history website has all the pictures posted there. I am e-mailing an invitation to my Barrs Family History Website so you can get the pictures, etc for you family history files.

Al Barrs
albarrs@wfeca.net
