The Barr surname is Scottish and has no connection to the Barrs surname. The Barrs surname arose in Old Normandy about 800 AD as Barre, was later translated into Barres in France and was used interchangeably in Great Britain as Barres until English became the official language of Great Britain at which time it became Barrs. The British and Scottish people were sworn enemies and therefore did not associate with each other. Englishmen would kill Scottish men on sight so we don't think there was any DNA exchange until very much later. Today there is a mix of Barr and Barrs in Scotland, England and the U.S.A. but the surnames are not itterations of each other. Al Barrs
