Hi Mary,
I was talking to Dad again this morning and I had caught him unawares the other evening when I spoke to him. He says that you and I would both have the same Great Great Grandfather - Seamus Barron. My Great Grandfather Jamie Barron and your Great Grandfather Patrick Barron would have been brothers.

He thinks that Seamus' wife was called Mary or Maura, but he can't remember any father back than that.

He also asked me to ask how your mother is, now that he knows who she is!!

It would be great if you have any information on Seamus' family and how they came to Laghy. Dad was asking is it one of the Travers who has done some research on the family?

my email address is gemhig@yahoo.co.uk if it would be easier to send any information directly.

thanks very much in advance

Chris

Hi Chris,
I don't think they were brothers but I will check to be 100% sure. They did live next door - down the lane. I should know the names of all the brothers and sisters of my grandfather - but they seem to be a different family to your grandfather Daniel. I have a cousin - distant- who has researched my grandfather John Barron's family and there is no Daniel. But maybe John's father and Daniels father were brothers. I will see what I can find out. My mother said ur father wrote her a lovely letter when my father died way back in 1986. Lovely to actually have some kind of a Barron relative in Ireland. My fathers brothers all emigrated so we are the only Barrons left in Ireland of that family.

Did he live down the laneway fromtheir house on the Ought. Have you traced your family back very far yet? Yes Dad was known as Packie James at home.

chris

Re: Does anyone know the origin of the name Barron?

Hi Barrons! I always believed our Mexican lineage traced back to Ireland,(the Irish also emigrated to Mexico!) and now here is some evidence that it may actually have been brought from Spain???

I found this on the Geneology Forum:

"17 Dec 2004 Message from John Schmal
Info in Spanish / English about the Barron Surname, with rough translation:

Rough translation:
According to Garcia Carrafás "Dictionary of Surnames, "a house of this last name originated (took root) in Logroño... '." Also, in the military nobility of Navarre (a Basque province of Spain), documents relative to the Aranguren and Barrón, is spoken of (in its coat of arms) in these terms: "the shield is twelve pieces of artillery and a seated King, with sword in the hand."

According to Endika de Mogrobejo, "Coats of Arms and Lineages of Euskalerria (Basque Territory)," relating to Barron: "According to certification of the Chronicle and King of Arms Don Ramon Zazo and Ortega, in 1777, this lineage comes from the Salt mines of Añana (Arabic). Their branches (of the family) passed to other points in Arabia, Seville (in Castile), Galicia and Leon. Other houses had east lineages in Laburdi and Logroño.

Basically, Barron is from several parts of Spain and is also associated with the Arabic parts of Spain in the south.

Have any of you ever seen a Barron coat of arms? They describe it in the book, but did not show it: twelve peices of artillery and a seat King. They must have been a military family if they have a coat of arms like that.
John

NB: Most barron immigrants to the US (220) came from Ireland"

There is a town called Barron just south of Mazatlan on the western coast of Mexico. I believe there are at least three cities named Barron in Mexico.

My Mexican family is from Chihuahua, but I do not know of any Irish or Spanish lineage. I only know of our indigenous or Mexican Indian lineage and we have only three to four generations to account.

I am an American BTW. I would love the meet other Barrons!!

Would Daniel Barron have been born in 1892? I just checked the online Census for 1911 and Daniel Barron was resident in Mullinasole Barr, near Laghey aged 19 in 1911. His mother Margaret was head of the family at that stage so perhaps his father had already died.

Hi Chris, I am not sure how useful this information is to you. According to my mother, Daniel Barron was the next door neighbour of my grandfather, John Barron. The families were in some way related but my mother is not sure how. Was your father also known as Packie James? She remembers him going to England and had some contact from him when my father, Jim Barron, died in 1986.

I am looking for a Pleasant Jefferson Barrron who married an Eleanor Athens. Not certain of the spelling of Athens. She was one of 4 girls who moved to Nebraska from Indiana. She should have been born around 1877 or so. Together they had 4 children- 2 boys and 2 girls. Can anyone help me out?
I think Pleasant got his name from his father, who got his name from the area where they lived, Pleasant Oaks, Pulaski, Kentucky. Do you know?
Thanks!

My gggrandfather, Robert John Hen(d)ley Barron, was the son of Amon Barron and Sidney Trevitt. I know that John was born in KY (probably Monroe Co.) in 1847 and died in Hart Co. in 1903. Amon is listed in the 1850 Monroe Co. Census with birth year/place 1819 in TN.

I have searched for Amon Barron's ancestry for years with no luck. With his son being named Hen(d)ley, I believe he may have a connection to Dr. Hendley Barron. If anyone has information on my Barron's family, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Proof found that the wife of Samuel Barron of Jones Co, GA, was indeed a Braswell

With the help of Braswell family researcher, Ann Braswell, evidence was recently uncovered confirming that the maiden name of the wife of Samuel Barron (b. 1768, d. 1826 in Jones County, GA), was indeed Braswell. It had been long believed by Barron researchers that Joannah (b. 1771, d. 1834 in Jones County, GA), was a Braswell, but for at least most of us, remained unproven until now.

On page 186 of Jones County, GA, Deed Book E, Joseph Braswell gave to "my beloved Daughter Joannah Barron" eight slaves: "Pheby. grace. her child Sura. Burrell. Simon. Jincy. agg. Mary...." The document is dated 26 May 1814. This deed clearly identifies Joannah Barron as the daughter of Joseph Braswell.

The deed does not mention Joannah's husband, which of course would have been helpful in verifying that she was married to Samuel Barron. HOWEVER, we can show that this Joannah Barron was truly the wife of Samuel Barron of Jones County, by reviewing the list of slaves that Samuel Barron willed to his wife Joannah on 10 July 1823: "I bequeath to my well beloved wife Joanna Barron ... thirteen Negroes, viz. Phebe, Grace, Burrel, Simon, Jincy, Agg, Mary, Sue, Diner, Elizar, Sampson, Jacob, Charity ...." The first seven slaves named in Samuel's will match the slave names in Joseph Braswell's gift of deed made nine years earlier. The names are even in the same order. The only difference is Grace's child Sura, who may or may not be Sue, the eighth slave named in Samuel Barron's will.

This is an exciting find. Perhaps/probably some researcher in years past located this gift of deed from Joseph Braswell and knew that Joannah was a Braswell. But all of the researchers I've encountered over thirty years could never provide
solid evidence of this. The best and earliest source of which we were aware was an 1892 letter on Barron heritage written by John Davis Garrard that names Samuel Barron's wife Joannah Braswell.

This gift of deed proves Joannah's maiden name and identifies her father, offering researchers important new clues to track this family's history. For more information about Joannah Barron's father, Joseph Braswell, and his family, see Ann Braswell's blog entry: http://braswellgenealogy.blogspot.com/2008/10/joseph-braswel...

Vicki Barron Kruschwitz

Below are the full texts of the Joseph Braswell deed to Joannah Barron and the Samuel Barron will:

JOSEPH BRASWELL TO JOANNAH BARRON, Jones County, GA, Deed Book E, p. 186

Georgia}
Jones County}

Know all men by these presants that I JOSEPH BRASWELL for and in consideration of the Natural love and affection which I have and bare unto my beloved Daughter JOANNAH BARRON also for divers other good causes and considerations I hereunto moving have given granted and by these Presants doe give grant and confirm unto my said Daughter Joannah Barron eight Negroes slaves namely Pheby. grace. her child Sura.
Re: My Grandmother and Grandfather and me (Dominica Barango

Hello,

I was in the middle of doing a google search when I came across your post to this user. My name is Joseph, I'm 19 and from the Chicago area. My mother's maiden name is Barango, her grandparents came here to America in the 1930's from Italy. Is there any chance the we could be related? My mother's name is Mary, and she is one of 5 children--3 sisters and 2 brothers, all of whom were born and raised in the Chicago land area.

What I had originally set out to do was to find a hotel in Sicily that supposedly belonged to my family until they immigrated here to the USA. According to my Uncle (now the oldest member in the family) my great-great grandparents had owned a hotel in Palermo, Sicily named Hotel Barango (I guess it is pronounced Barungo). When they moved to the USA, they gave the hotel to whatever family had stayed behind. Talk of this hotel hadn't surfaced until recently, when my cousin and I decided to find the hotel for ourselves to see if it really does exist. We cannot find it anywhere, neither in travel books, google, yahoo or travel sites, it's almost has if it doesn't exist. We gave up until recently when my cousin was working with an international student-intern at her office in downtown Chicago. This student was from Sicily, and confirmed that Hotel Barango does exist. Unfortunatly, she left to go back to Italy before we could get any other info from her, and she did not leave her e-mail, facebook, or any other contact info behind.

So my questions would be: 1-Is there a chance that we could be related? 2-Have you or anyone you know heard of Hotel Barango?

Please feel free to contact me. My personal e-mail address is JHM0290@comcast.net

Thank you
-Joseph Murray

What evidence can you cite that any of the Barnabas Barrons of Georgia were born in Ireland? The four that I recall from the 1850 census were listed as born in either NC or GA.

I’ve been wondering about a Maitland – Barron link too, my 3x great grandfather, James Barron (born in 1821 Old Meldrum, Aberdeenshire, death 1891 in Aberdeen) had 2 children with the middle names of Maitland

In 1844 James (who was a weaver) married Ann Bervie of Old Machar, Aberdeenshire, Scotland b 1826 – d 1881, their children were born in Old Machar, Aberdeenshire

James Barron 1846 – (a wood turner in 1861)
William Barron 1850 – 1903 (my great great grandfather, a shore labourer)
Peter Barron 1852 – 1910 (a pastry baker/ confectioner)
Margaret Barron 1852 – 1911
Jessie Barron 1852 –
Mary Barron 1854 –
John Reid Barron 1854 – 1937
Clementina Anderson Barron 1856 – 1926 (millworker)
Jane Maitland Barron 1860 – 1861
Alexandrina Reid Barron 1862 – 1865
George Maitland Barron 1864 – 1864
Helen Orr Barron 1867 – 1914
Ann Bervie Barron 1869 – 1944
James Cobban 1870 –

On the 1861 & 71 Census the family were living in Skene Square, Aberdeen. Does any of this link in with your research?

Ian

Hi Ian,

Thanks for the post. In fact, MASSIE (in Fraserburgh) is the main name I'm looking at and Maitland is second as the person I'm helping in this had a MASSIE father and a MAITLAND mother (again, Fraserburgh). BARRON is a connecting name to the MASSIES but I've not come across a MAITLAND - BARRON connection as yet.

James.
