1. Gideon Barrett, enlisted 1840 in 7th US Infantry. Age 21, born Philipstown, NY. Discharged 1845 in New Orleans.

2. Gideon G. Barrett, enlisted 1861 in Company C, 5th Alabama Battalion (CSA) in Mobile, Alabama. Discharge papers dated 1865 in Petersburg, VA give his age as 54 and birthplace as Dutchess County, NY.

Are they the same man?
