What do you mean by a road block with Hannah? Do you mean you don't have her maiden name? I don't either, will look and see if I can find it anywhere.

Nora

Barraugh families from Ontario, Canada to Montana, USA

First of all, thank you to Ancestry.com message board folks for creating this board today.

I spent seven years trying to figure out the surname of the man that Lucinda Bowen married- she was born about 1848 probably at Fredericksburgh in Lennox and Addington County, Ontario to Caleb Bowen and his wife Angeline also known as Ann. I don't know her maiden name and have been hunting for it also for seven years. Caleb's family has been researched back to 1700's at Schenectady, New York.

I have names of ten children for Caleb Bowen and Angeline, most of them born at Fredericksburgh.

Caleb and Angeline moved to Kaladar in Ontario before the 1871 census. Many French families lived in that area. Joseph Barraugh's family was one. His father was born about 1805 in Quebec, and died between 1861 and 1871 most likely at Kaladar. His widow Hannah was still there in 1871 with five unmarried children. She was born in Ontario and I don't know her maiden name yet. Joseph senior and Hannah may have had at least ten Barraugh children. One of the early censuses lists some children by initial only, but I do have names of six:

William Barraugh born about 1838, alive in 1871 and single

Joseph Barraugh born 1842 married Lucinda Bowen, died January 19, 1908 in Montana, USA

Isaac Barraugh born about Dec. 1843, died Nov. 4, 1912 in Montana, married Harriet Cassibeau (spelled many ways, sometimes Cassibon) the daughter of Peter Cassibeau and his wife Clarissa Beausoleil of Kaladar; I have names of seven children so far for Isaac Barraugh and his wife Harriet, of those seven the first five were born in Ontario, Canada, the next two in Montana, USA

Fanny Barraugh was born about 1852 and was still single in 1871 at Kaladar

Mary Ann Barraugh was born about 1857 and was still single in 1871 at Kaladar

Maria Barraugh was born about 1853 and married George Paul Bretherton on Feb. 23, 1873 at Kaladar- they did migrate also to the USA but I have not finished tracking them; one child was born in Utah in 1881, two of their children died in California in 1944 and 1952.

The other Barraugh children were C. Barraugh born about 1837, a son; another son S. Barraugh born about 1840; a son P. Barraugh born about 1845 who may be same person as Isaac Barraugh; and a daughter C. Barraugh born about 1847.

I can't find a date of death in Ontario, Canada for Hannah wife of Joseph Barraugh senior. It is possible that the whole family moved to the USA after their father died. From census info it is stated that Joseph and Lucinda Barraugh moved to the USA in 1889 and 1890; Joseph must have gone ahead to find work and/or a place to live for his family.

Joseph Barraugh and his family were on the 1881 census at Sophiasburgh, Prince Edward County, Ontario with surname Barraw. The family seems to have consistently spelled their name Barraugh in the USA.

Joseph Barraugh and his wife Lucinda Bowen had six children that I identified from census info, and Ontario birth records, but there may be others. So far I have:

Catherine Alzina Barraugh born November 6, 1870 in Ontario; no further info

Lillian Blanche Barraugh born April 5, 1872 in Ontario; no further info

William Burton Barraugh born July 14, 1874 in Ontario; may have died March 7, 1934 at Butte, Montana, I would have to confirm this. He married a widow named Letitia with three sons, whose first husband was Melvin Smith- I see that some people are getting the William Barraugh's mixed up online, i.e.) this William and son and grandsons, etc. of Isaac Barraugh

Marjorie Blanche Barraugh born January 18, 1877 in Ontario; no further info

Hannah May Barraugh born August 24, 1880 in Ontario; married William Steele in Montana, had at least three children: Lucille, Charles and Robert and died April 8, 1919 perhaps at Basin, Jefferson County, Montana- Lucinda Bowen Barraugh, now a widow, is on the 1920 census at Boulder, Jefferson County, Montana with her widowed son in law William Steele and his three children.

Charles Alison (or Allison) Barraugh was born July 28, 1883 in Ontario, Canada and died after April 27, 1942 somewhere in the USA- in 1942 he was in Nevada County, California filling out a draft reg. for World War Two. He married Mabel E. Collins on Nov. 7, 1904 at Silver Bow, Montana, and had at least 3 children with her: Harvey, Ray and Virginia Barraugh, all born between 1907 and 1917. Mabel Collins was the daughter of Milton Edwin Collins from Indiana and his wife Emma Jane Marshall from Illinois.

I am not related to these families, but have worked on Lennox and Addington County, Ontario, Canada families for eight years and have about 55 pages on the Bowen families, and as I said previously, I have always hoped to find the maiden name of Lucinda Bowen Barraugh's mother Ann or Angeline, through her children. It is possible that this maiden name is on Lucinda's death reg. from Montana and I wonder if anyone has ever retrieved that information?

Anyone interested in these Barraugh families, please post here, or contact me directly.

Thanks from Nora
